December 2013 Welcome to New Covenant! We believe God is good all the time and we gather on Sundays to celebrate His goodness. We are really glad you have decided to join us today! If you are new to New Covenant be sure to visit our Welcome Centre in the lobby to receive a special gift and a brochure designed to help you get the most out of your first few visits. Our hope is that as you take the next step into the New Covenant community and get involved, you will begin to see that NC is more than just a Sunday Morning celebration; it is a family of everyday people following Jesus together to bring hope and change to the world - one life at a time.

Celebrating God’s goodness

Get Two-For-One This Christmas I’m a sucker for a two-for-one deal. Convenience stores and gas stations see me coming a mile away. Two chocolate bars for the price of one - who could pass that up? The only thing I like better than my favourite chocolate bar and carbonated beverage are two chocolate bars and two cans of my favourite beverage... one for now and one for later. (You didn’t really think I was going to say the second one was to share did you?) Imagine, that instead of getting one of everything on your Christmas wish list this year, you got two of everything you requested. How great would that be? If one broke, or wore out, or got lost, you would have another waiting to replace it. It would be like you never lost it in the first place. John 1:14-17 say, “And the Word [Jesus] became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth. For from his fullness we have all received, grace upon grace. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.” God has always blessed us and given us good gifts. But that first Christmas He gave more than He had ever given. In Jesus, God gave us grace and then more grace (grace upon grace). The Law was a good gift given by God to the people of Israel. It was good in that it revealed God’s standard. It was

full of truth but it wasn’t full of grace. It was hard and unforgiving. Failing to keep it brought curses and death.

Our Purpose:

Jesus, on the other hand, brought God’s truth but also brought God’s grace. As God, Jesus is the perfect representation of God. Jesus lived a sinless life demonstrating God’s holiness to us but then died in our place so that when we fall short of God’s standard we can receive grace. Grace is a part of God’s nature that the Law was unable to reveal. In Jesus grace and truth exist without tension.

Our Mission:

Jesus brought us a life-time supply of grace ... grace upon grace. I will never use it up. When I’ve used a measure of God’s grace there is always more waiting for me. Romans 5:20 reveals that our sin can never outpace God’s grace. The grace that we receive in Jesus is the gift that keeps on giving. How much grace do you need? If you are like me, you need a lot. The good news is that Jesus provides you with more than you will ever use. Grace upon grace. You probably won’t get everything on your Christmas wish list. You certainly won’t get two of each. But we can all celebrate God this Christmas for the abundance of Grace given to us in Jesus that first Christmas. Merry Christmas.

Celebrating God’s goodness!

Helping one another to Encounter God, be Equipped by His Word, and Empowered by His Spirit to live a life that celebrates God.
