November 2013 Welcome to New Covenant! We believe God is good all the time and we gather on Sundays to celebrate His goodness. We are really glad you have decided to join us today! Our hope is that as you take the next step into the New Covenant community and get involved, you will begin to see that NC is more than just a Sunday Morning celebration; it is a family of everyday people following Jesus together to bring hope and change to the world - one life at a time. If you have questions about anything feel free to speak with someone at the Welcome Centre (located in the lobby) or contact the church office. Our Contact info is on the back page.
Celebrating God’s goodness
Thursday nights were ‘treat night’ in my home as a child. Every Thursday my Dad would bring home candy for me, my sister, and my two brothers. Even when Dad was in school and there wasn’t a lot of extra money he would come home with a box of Smarties for us to share hidden in one of his pockets. We would meet him at the door and search for the treat we knew would be there. It was always there; every Thursday without fail - and we came to expect it. The great preacher Charles Spurgeon said, “You might not always get what you want, but you always get what you expect.” If that’s true maybe we should expect more. What are you expecting from God right now? Is it right to ‘expect’ from God or is that too presumptuous? No it isn’t. God expects you to come to Him expecting to receive from Him. Isaiah 30:18 (AMP) says, “And therefore the Lord [earnestly] waits [expecting, looking, and longing] to be gracious to you; ...Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) are all those who [earnestly] wait for Him, who expect and look and long for Him.”
God is waiting expectantly for you to wait on Him expectantly.
That’s an incredible truth. God is waiting expectantly for you to wait on Him expectantly. He has a treasure of blessings stored up for you but He is waiting for you to come to Him expectantly to receive it. Lamentations 3:25 says, “The Lord is good to those who wait hopefully and expectantly for Him, to those who seek Him.”
There it is again. God is waiting on someone to come to Him expecting something good from Him. God wants to be good to you. He wants to be more good to you than you have ever experienced before but He always responds to your level of expectation of His goodness toward you. Do you come to God expectantly? Do you really expect Him to answer your prayers? Do you really expect Him to reveal Himself to you in powerful ways? A lack of expectation may be exactly the thing that is keeping you from seeing your prayers answered and God really moving in your life. James 1:6-7 say, “But when you ask [God], be sure that you really expect Him to answer, for a doubtful mind is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. People like that should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.” In these verses, James reveals a key to answered prayer. The key is “expectation.” If you don’t really expect him to answer then you shouldn’t expect to receive anything from Him. Expectation is a key to blessing. Let’s get bold. Let’s really begin to expect from God. Try this in your personal life. Really expect to receive from Him and see what happens. Pray bold prayers and then watch to see how God answers them; not if He answers them. Let’s also do this as a church. When we gather on Sundays, let’s come expecting God to show up and do something great. Let’s tap into some of those blessings He has been storing up for us. Let’s meet our Heavenly Father at the door every Sunday and see what He has brought for us!
