If your idea of golf heaven is a diverse array of spectacular courses woven into a dazzling seaside landscape, Los Cabos is the destination for you. Situated at a point where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean at the tip of the Baja Peninsula, Los Cabos boasts a mountain-desert-ocean environment unique in the western hemisphere. Only in Los Cabos do emerald fairways tumble down from cactus-studded foothills to meet the sea. Only in Los Cabos can golfers tee it up on world-class layouts built by design legends such as Jack Nicklaus, Tom Fazio, Greg Norman and Robert Trent Jones, Jr.
In August of 2022, Las Cabos Tourism announced a new partnership with Forbes Travel Guide, the global authority on hospitality excellence, to enhance the visitor experience throughout Los Cabos. The partnership includes comprehensive service training and health security verification to ensure high standards are maintained across all member hotels, restaurants, tour, and event providers. “Tourism is the heartbeat of Los Cabos, and the safety and health of our visitors and community have always been our top priority.
This partnership with Forbes Travel Guide, made possible through our Los Cabos private trust (FIPROTUR), reinforces our commitment to the highest standards of service and the confidence tourists have about Los Cabos. It also strengthens the hospitality industry by providing additional resources for our partners,” said Rodrigo Esponda, managing director of the Los Cabos Tourism Board.
Where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez, bliss exists in the form of fresh mangoes and slow sunsets, unparalleled luxury golf resorts set in a subtropical climate with sunshine an average, 350 days of the year. Along the southern coast, Quivira, designed by Jack Nicklaus, is ranked among the “World’s Greatest New Courses”, and has magnificent ocean-side practice facilities. Diamante’s El Cardonal, featuring historic California design motifs, marked the architectural debut of Tiger Woods when it opened in 2014. The Dunes Course, ranked among the world’s top 100 courses by both Golf Digest and GOLF Magazine, is a splendid Davis Love III design carved into vast white sand hills set back from the ocean.
Golf course living is in high demand in Los Cabos. One of the finest communities Querencia, is a private 1,800-acre golf community set in furrowed desert foothills high above the Sea of Cortez. Tom Fazio’s aesthetic touch is evident at Querencia, with palm trees and lush vegetation artfully blended with the native desert border. In the last few years, professional golf has seen more changes than any other time in history. In 2021 the European Tour, which was founded 50 years ago in 1972, rebranded itself under a new name: The DP World Tour. The move was made to further enhance and grow its exposure worldwide. In 2022, the Saudi backed LIV Golf Tour launched its invitational series of golf tournaments in London, England with strong disapproval by many in professional golf.
What followed was a sharp and conflicting division of professional golf worldwide, spearheaded by the PGA Tour and many of its players. It was not good for the game of golf and especially bad for golf fans, who closely follow their favorite players. It was quite simply the most serious setback professional golf had ever faced.
On June 6th the PGA Tour, LIV Golf Tour and The DP World Tour announced that all three tours would merge their business operations. Over several weeks, meetings were arranged by PGA Tour board member Jimmy Dunne for Jay Monahan to meet with all entities to facilitate this remarkable transition in the game. Mr. Monahan realized LIV Golf had a deep well of funds and wasn’t going anywhere.
He said, “golf was too divided and had too much tension and it would be best for everyone to come together.” The Public Investment Fund,
the sovereign wealth investment fund of the Saudi government, “will make a capital investment into the new entity to facilitate its growth and success,” according to a news release. The fund will also be the exclusive investor of the “new entity.” All outstanding litigation, including a lawsuit filed by a number of golfers who joined the LIV tour filed against the PGA Tour will now end.
For golf fans worldwide, and all professional players in the game, this is welcome news. Many are confused about the details; these will be released in the weeks ahead. For all of us in and around the game, there is a sigh of relief that this major professional golf war is over!
“A new can of worms is now open, and none of it is good for the game.”
About ten years ago, Bob Parsons entered the golf equipment market with one goal and one goal only, to make the world’s finest golf clubs. This mission was fueled by a fiery passion for the game and a dominating obsession with golf equipment. Following a serendipitous nine holes with former PGA TOUR player and golf club designer Mike Nicolette, wheels were set in motion for what is now a global juggernaut, PXG.
In 2013 Parsons recruited Nicolette and Brad Schweigert, another highly regarded golf club engineer. And the three hit the ground running, no holds barred.
With no cost or time constraints, they researched various alloys, explored new technologies, and identified the unique properties that would make PXG clubs unlike anything else on the market. It was truly a couple of golf club junkies diving headfirst into the research and development project of a lifetime - all in the name of good fun and groundbreaking performance.
PXG made its industry debut in 2015, shocking the masses with the launch of its proprietary, and now legendary, 0311 Irons. The newfound company had officially gained its legs and, in stark opposition to many critics, learned to walk before it could crawl.
Many aspects of the brand set it apart from the other, well-established big beasts in the market. But it was PXG’s unwavering stance as an R&D company and lack of product release cycles that helped create a clear distinction. From the jump, Parsons said PXG would only deliver new clubs when they were clearly better than the last generation. And on the heels of its GEN6 launch, this continues to reign true for the company.
It is also PXG’s fitting process that captures the attention of golfers – from newbies to scratch players and the pros alike. A personalized golf club fitting experience is standard for PXG. In fact, PXG clubs are engineered to be built to spec, which ensures no two sets, just like no two swings, are precisely the same. Offering no men’s, women’s, senior, or junior models, the company tailors each product to the individual, focusing on maximizing each player’s performance on the course.
PXG offers two ways to get fitted, in-person and over the phone, and the option to personalize clubs online. Whichever route is chosen, players have access to PXG’s wide range of game-changing clubheads, an extensive menu of premium shafts and grips, and some of the most knowledgeable fitters in the industry.
PXG Master Fitters are highly experienced product and fitting
experts, extensively trained and tuned-in to the company’s specialized fitting process. And, like many customers who walk through PXG’s doors, they are golf enthusiasts. Equipped with leading performance-tracking launch monitors, PXG Master Fitters guide players through a tour-caliber fitting in a fun and unintimidating way. PXG Master Fitters consider the player’s height, swing speed, swing dynamics, ball flight, and more to dial-in club specifications. This data-driven experience powers each fitter with the information needed to optimize loft, lie, head weight, shaft selection and length, and, of course, PXG clubhead style until the ideal com-
bination is found – all without changing up anyone’s swing.
At the end of the day, the right equipment, properly fit, will help lower scores on the course and significantly increase enjoyment of the game. Which, in a nutshell, it’s what PXG is all about.
Not only has PXG made waves for its innovative club technology, but the company has also become a leading voice in the golf apparel industry. Established in late 2018 under the direction of President and Executive Creative Director of PXG Apparel Renee Parsons, the company is breathing new life into the age-old golf polo and khaki pants.
Fueled by Renee Parsons’ love of golf and fashion, each collection has taken a forward-thinking and fashionable approach to design and deliver golf-inspired apparel that helps golfers look, feel, and perform their best. From multiple-weight polos for varying weather conditions to two fits that suit a broad range of body types, PXG has refined the golf silhouette for men and
women with its essentials and capsule collections.
Most recently, PXG dropped its Spring 2023 Collection. While anchored in black and white, the capsule introduces vibrant pink and neon green hues across the range of versatile, performance-driven styles ideal for the modern golfer.
So golfers can see, touch, and try on PXG Apparel and engage in the celebrated fitting experience the brand supports, PXG has dramatically expanded its retail footprint over the last
couple of years. The company currently boasts brick-and-mortar locations across the United States, with four conveniently situated in the Northeast region – PXG Westchester, PXG Paramus, PXG Boston, and PXG Philadelphia.
Each PXG store is designed to be bold and unassuming – comfortable, welcoming, and fun from the moment customers enter the door. This sentiment encapsulates the brand in its entirety and further ingrains its mission to make the game less intimidating, more inclusive, and more fun for anyone who wishes to try it.
While some aspects of the brand have changed since its initial debut, like diversifying its price points and club line-up, one thing remains the same – the company’s pursuit of pure fun and groundbreaking performance.

ATTENTION as a golf destination since Erin Hills hosted the 2017 U.S. Open Championship and Whistling Straits hosted the 2021 Ryder Cup. The state is full of beautiful golf courses with dreamy landscapes and has many lakes (or lacs) for water fun before or after golf.
Wisconsinites are the friendliest to travelers outside of Ireland, perhaps due to all the beer and cheese? Here are a few prime spots to meet them and play exceptional golf.
SentryWorld is centrally located in Stephens Point and ready to host the 2023 U.S. Senior Open. Built in 1982, RTJ II returned in 2021 with modifications while the course closed for pandemic precautions. The drainage system was improved, and the fairways were narrowed in preparation for the pro competition. The course is pristine and refreshing stations are positioned with the widest selection of beverages, snacks, and hot food for the all-inclusive green fee. Tee times are set 29 minutes apart for an unpressured round. It is not about the number of rounds, rather the high-end private feel.
SentryWorld’s boutique Inn is only a year young. The Frank Lloyd Wright architecture combines iron and wood with cozy comforts in a peaceful wilderness setting. Spacious bedrooms include a balcony with rockers to observe golfers on the 18th fairway and at the complex 16th bunkered green, encircled by 35,000 brilliant flowers. Registration keys are accompanied with a choice of Spotted Cow ale, wine, or water in a commemorative refillable bottle, a detail noted by every visitor riding the elevator. www.sentryworld.com
Destination Kohler spans a vast area surrounding the Village of Kohler, 60 miles from Milwaukee. The charming Inn at Woodlake has its own beach, and a sports court in walking distance. Downtown, visionary Herb Kohler converted the original immigrant dormitory into The American Club, a five star, five diamond hotel dripping with historical, elegant furnishings so that guests could experience Kohler’s quality manufacturing across the street and The Kohler Design Center with the latest fixtures as well as a history museum. Herb passed away last fall, but the legacy is carried forward by family members and dedicated staff.
Two distinct areas deliver fabulous Kohler golf. At Whistling Straits, a Champions Room chronicles the 2021 Ryder Cup. The breathtaking Straits course along the coast of Lake Michigan and the Irish course behind it were built to mimic Irish sea links.170-210 caddies are employed but not mandatory.
The Black Wolf Run complex features two Pete Dye Courses - Rivers and Meadow Valleys plus a bonus par 3 course with music
called The Baths. Along the way a complimentary brat will boost driving distance on hole ten. Restrooms are housed beside antique cow stanchions in an old barn and salmon are seen spawning in the rivers. www.destinationkohler.com
Sand Valley in Nekoosa is Mike Keiser’s third Dream Golf destination after Bandon Dunes and Cabot Links. Three courses were modeled after the Heathland Golf Courses of London in 2017. David McLay Kidd designed Sand Valley and Mammoth Dunes while Coore & Crenshaw created a unique 17-hole par 3 course called the Sandbox. The new Lido course opened with nine holes last year with another nine completing this year. Sledge Valley course will open in 2024. Accommodations in the elegant lodge or cottages have access to Lake Leopold for swimming and fishing. www.sandvalley.com
Erin Hills is 50 minutes from Milwaukee, with four cottages named after Irish courses,
all without kitchens. The clubhouse serves all meals. Another 15 rooms in the lodge equate to only 37 beds on property which fill up fast for an exclusive experience. The Hurdzan/ Fry/Whitten team designed the extraordinary championship course for the 2017 U.S. Open. The 12-hole Drumlin Putting course delivers undulation elation as the mounds appear like an elephant herd burial plot carpeted in green velvet. Caddies in white stand out against the horizon on the course above as the wispy grass waves in the wind. www.erinhills.com

IN THE NORTHEAST, golf travel and especially road trips are a huge part of the 3 unique seasons of golf enjoyed here yearly. In some regions like Cape Cod, Southern R.I., and Atlantic City there is a great deal of winter golf in the 4th as well. Most golfers in the Northeast enjoy Canadian Golf and New England Mountain golf in the summers and fall, for great foliage. In the spring, many escape to southern locations for a season tune-up, and in winter when things thaw and warm up, we visit our seaside favorites courses that get very little snow cover and drain well. For those visiting the Northeast from around the globe, you are in for a real treat!
At the turn of the century in the United
States most golf courses built were at private sporting clubs and resort hotels in the Northeast region. It was not until 1913, when Francis Ouimet shocked the golf world by winning the U.S. Open at The Country Club in Brookline, Massachusetts, that the flood gates for public access golf were thrown open. That boom of golf course building brought golf to all the classes, especially throughout the Northeast, where dozens of the best golf course architects in the world, built hundreds of spectacular golf masterpieces.
A.W. Tillinghast, C.B. Macdonald, William Flynn, Donald Ross, Seth Raynor, Alister Mackenzie, Bill Coore, Geoffrey Cornish, Arthur Hills, Tom Doak, Ben
Crenshaw, Gil Hanse as well as Jack Nicklaus, Arnold Palmer, and others: These historic and modern masters of course designs shaped some of the most spectacular venues in the game. They are common ground for U.S. Open Championships, PGA Championships, Ryder Cups, President Cups and other USGA, PGA, LPGA, and Champions tour Major events.
In less than a day’s drive, there are hundreds of world class golfing resorts and regions here in the Northeast. We are blessed with some of the finest seaside, mountainside, and countryside facilities with more diversity in design, terrain, and character than almost anywhere in the world today. From Long Island to Rhode Island,
Cape Cod and the Island’s, and the coast of Maine you will find some of the most amazing seaside golf in the country. Upstate NY is home to a wide variety of golf resorts, gaming resorts and fantastic family resorts with golf courses and a vast array of resort amenities for the entire family. Northern New England boast some of the most spectacular mountain golf resorts in Vermont, New Hampshire and Northern Maine with dramatic course designs and amazing vistas.
Let’s not forget Eastern Canada & the Maritimes. They are packed with luxurious resorts in Toronto, Quebec, and Montreal, and are only about 300 miles from Boston and New York. They offer historic stately hotels and resorts along the Great lakes. In Eastern Canada Prince Edward Island is a golf mecca and New Brunswick and Nova Scotia offer some of the most dramatic seaside course designs in the world. The beauty of drive golf vacations is you can enjoy both golf in the White Mountain of
New Hampshire and Maine or Nova Scotia seaside links in the same day. The beauty is that packaging a few destinations in one road trip is easy here in the Northeast. It’s a great time to rediscover Northeast Golf –Can You Say Road Trip!
Let break down our “Resort & Regions” feature this month by regions to provide you with some very sectored target areas for your golf vacations. We believe that less time traveling means more time for golfing and vacationing! Today your choices are literally unlimited for accommodations, courses to play, and amenities to enjoy. For resorts, you have some of the best resorts in
the world right here in this region at a full range of price points and locations. The resort advantage is your stay can be packaged with onsite amenities including golf. You can also venture out to great courses outside the resort in the region.
Obviously if you are going to be away for an extended time visiting numerous regions, then hotels or stay and play region packages are a great choice too. And for some that plan elaborate regional golf excursions. Airbnb, Vrbo, HomeAway offers options for home rentals everywhere, at every price point, for as many occupants as needed, at a fair price.
If you’re planning a Nova Scotia summer golf vacation with family or a large group, then a home rental centrally located in the Halifax region would allow you to play all courses in Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island for a full Maritimes experience!

Nova Scotia is fast becoming the new “Bucket List” destination with the addition of Cabot to a host of already amazing facilities. Prince Edward Island is Canada’s smallest province, it is easily accessible from Nova Scotia via the 8-mile-long Confederation Bridge which crosses over Northumberland Straights from Borden-Carleton, NS to PEI.

Golfers far and wide are familiar with the multi-colored umbrella logo and the worldfamous sports icon it represents. Comprised of apparel, footwear, and accessories, all of which were designed by drawing inspiration from Arnold Palmer’s legacy both on and off the course, the newest PUMA Golf x Arnold Palmer Collection embodies the essence of what golf’s greatest style icon would be wearing today.
Designed as a celebration of “the man,” himself, the 2023 AP Collection utilizes imagery from three key themes in Mr. Palmer’s life – The Pilot, The Star, and The Icon. Things like Cactus and Palm trees from his love of Palm Springs and the desert,
lemons and tea bags representing his namesake drink, and various golf-related items like tees, clubs, and flagsticks, all call to mind different parts of The King’s life. Details like imagery appearing not only outside but also inside shirt and sweater collars, high-end fabrics, and quality stitching, set the AP Collection apart from standard golf apparel. To fully honor Mr. Palmer, a pallet of bold colors including Tropical Aqua, Pale Pink, and Lake Blue, are applied in a tasteful but eye-catching way, as is a two-tone version of his iconic umbrella logo.
“We worked closely with the Arnold Palmer team during the design process of the AP Collection,” said Chris MacNeill, Team Head, PLM - Golf Apparel & Accessories, PUMA Golf. “The goal was to create pieces
that captured the essence of Mr. Palmer’s life, both on and off the golf course, and to do so with a color palette and premium quality materials that would appeal to all the fans who admired his style and zest for living. Every piece in the PUMA Golf x Arnold Palmer Collection including apparel, shoes, and accessories, possess design qualities that we feel Mr. Palmer would personally appreciate.”
The 2023 Spring/Summer PUMA Golf x Arnold Palmer collection is comprised of six polos, one tee shirt, two layering pieces, two pairs of shorts, one pair of shoes, and three cap options.
Designed in collaboration with Hallof-Fame golfer, Annika Sorenstam, the Revo x Annika collection offers sunglasses that combine Revo’s legendary NASA-based lens technology with Annika’s sense of style on the course. Known for its incredible iron technology, PXG continues to push the envelope with the introduction of GEN6 Irons. The five-times forged irons feature a clubface that is 15% thinner than its predecessor, further solidifying PXG’s longstanding position as the brand with the thinnest face in golf. The milled HT1770 Variable Ultra-Thin Face saves approximately five grams of mass that are repositioned low and to the backside of the club to help increase the moment of inertia and improve the center of gravity location. The thin face and milled Power Channel Technology increase face deflection for ideal launch trajectory and exceptional midshaft performance.
Robotic laser wielding of the face around the outer perimeter of each club is the high-strength, precise attachment method used. This process is complemented by robotic polishing, which creates a remarkably consistent sole and face perimeter geometry.
PXG’s proprietary XCOR2Ô material backs the clubface. Explicitly developed for PXG Irons, the high-speed resin core is injection molded into the clubhead’s hollow cavity. The material provides structural stability to the clubface (which, unsupported, would fail with a single hit)
and dramatically increases ball speed performance. As a result, GEN6 Irons are the longest, most forgiving clubs PXG has ever released.
One large weight is located near the center of gravity on the back of the clubhead. This weight can be used to achieve optimal swing weight. Unique to PXG, customers can experience the benefits of these adjustments during an in-person fitting. Weighting is not intended to be adjusted after purchase.
PXG 0311 GEN6 Irons are available in two models – Players (P) and Xtreme Performance (XP). PXG 0311 PÒGEN6 Irons provide an ideal balance of workability and forgiveness. These irons, designed for low to mid-handicap players, feature moderate offset and a mid-size head design with a clean aesthetic. Designed for mid to high-handicap players, PXG 0311 XPÒ GEN6 Irons feature a larger head with more offset to deliver an incredibly soft feel, extreme distance performance, and excellent forgiveness.

Honma Golf has Japanese roots and worldwide impact. Get to know the brand, the technique, and how Honma is preparing the next generation of golfers with BERES Nx.
Yesterday, today, and tomorrow, Honma remains committed to creating golf equipment that brings out the beauty and history of the game—whether you’re a weekend warrior, committed amateur, on the pro tour, or in the tee-up stage of development.
New this year to Honma’s offerings is BERES Nx—clubs thoughtfully designed and expertly executed for up-and-coming players and their future success.
Fresh off its 65th anniversary of operation, Honma is one of the oldest and most-storied golf manufacturers in continuous operation. Now headquartered in the foothills of Sakata in Yamagata prefecture, to this day Honma remains the only premium golf-equipment company that handles every step of production—from inspiration to completion.
From its earliest days in a rustic Yokohama, Japan, workshop, Honma has produced premium golf equipment featuring an industry-leading stamp both in beauty and high performance. For more than half a century, Honma’s designers, technicians, innovators, and 360 master craftsmen have shared a common goal of producing some of the world’s most prestigious and visually stunning clubs.
Brothers Yukihiro and Hiro Honma were avid golfers from a family of distinguished art collectors. After succeeding with a single driving range and club-repair business, the brothers knew they had the knowledge and vision to go even further to revolutionize the game they loved. It all began with the art of premium club making—bringing the best minds in modern golf technology and design to the artistic stronghold of Sakata.
The result? Club collections in use by top players worldwide. Instantly recognizable by discerning players and fans, Honma proudly proclaims Stunning Performance.
Throughout its history, Honma has recognized, developed, and honored the beauty of design and production. Each Honma product touches 100 different employees’ hands and takes six months to develop; from start to finish, all Honma research, design, testing, and manufacturing are performed in-house.
Each wood club and driver club starts with a master model result-
ing from extensive scientific testing, research and development from the top designers, technicians, and innovators in the industry. Meticulous inspection, polishing, refining, coating, and finishing comes before the assembly phase, which is carefully performed by a Honma artisan whose discerning eye will send each piece back to the drawing board if anything’s amiss. Finally, a balance check with a precision balance meter determines whether the clubhead meets Honma’s strict balance benchmarks.
Meanwhile, Honma irons demand head abrasion by a seasoned artisan, router polishing, and grip insertion stringently checked by hand. Honma’s original proprietary machinery aligns and joins each component ahead of rigorous checks of the lie and loft angles. For Honma’s shafts, master artisans manually wind carbon fabric around an iron core. The shaft is then machine-ground, then laboriously hand-refined.
Honma prides itself on Stunning Performance—that is, clubs that are as beautiful as they are game-changing. From the start, Honma believed that club craftsmanship was its own art form. The endgame? Equipment that stands out in both form and function.
Although some of Honma’s clubheads are sleekly simple by design, the most recognizable BERES line is Aizu, featuring the traditional Japanese lacquer craft of colorful and intricate carvings inspired by nature. On the course, in the cart, or on display at home, BERES Aizu stands out as stunning beauty.
Honma craftsmen—Takumi artisans schooled in the ancient Japanese art of intricate aizu carving—dedicate their lives and careers to making every single piece of Honma equipment a work of art. The long path to club making and design mastery begins with apprenticeship, concluding only when a craftsman finally has the ability to perfectly picture a finished club and how it will look and feel in a player’s hands.
One example of how function takes beautiful form is Honma’s exclusive solid cross-carbon crown, featured on the newest BERES Nx line. An eye-catching and recognizable Honma feature, the lightweight yet solid and painstakingly-crafted crown allows weight to be carefully redistributed throughout the clubhead, preventing power loss at impact and maximizing strength and performance.
Last year, Honma introduced BERES Nx, designed specifically for golf’s next generation as an entry-level set for development, refinement, and commitment to the game. It is now available in
Honma’s clubs are unlike any in the industry. So it stands to reason that there must be some … ahem … underground intelligence into Honma’s ease in melding honored tradition and today’s tech.
Their ace in the hole just might be a mole. A mole named Morley.
Morley is swathed in some mystery. He works undercover. He’s attuned to the rumblings of news and innovation. And he knows there’s much more to golf than meets the eye.
In Japanese tradition, moles are considered a sign of good fortune. They’re also revered for their relentless pursuit of their goals. Even with limited sight, moles are highly attuned to their surroundings and skilled in seeking prey. Much like master craftsman Takumi, moles pursue absolute perfection in everything they do.
Not turning a blind eye to his capabilities, Morley Mole offers fresh perspective into club mechanics—from the ground up, of course. Maybe that’s why Honma has pioneered club features that the competition can’t quite grasp; features like the world’s first carbon-slot, classic shaping, and unmatched artistry that’s a clear shot back to our Japanese heritage.
Morley may lurk in the shadows, but it’s clear he digs Honma.
the North American markets.
Honma’s storied BERES line features legendary speed, distance capabilities, and recognizable craftsmanship. Recognizing that great play begins with the best tools, Honma has put all the best of BERES into the new Nx, along with additional tools to promote accuracy and confidence on the course.
Inspired by the Honma’s premium BERES line, the Nx combines a lower price point with advanced technology for the developing golfer to promote strength, skill, and comfort. Included is a carbon-crowned titanium face driver that turns face design on its head for better off-center hit flexing. Also in the mix is an iron head that’s weighted with tungsten and stabilized with an internal resin bar for less twisting on off-center hits.
The result is a fresh combination of technology and forgiveness for the ideal introduction to the game as well as the Honma family—the perfect gift to get tomorrow’s players starting today. In addition, BERES Nx provides a lift and additional support for senior-citizen golfers as well as seasoned players returning to golf after a gap.
BERES Nx addresses distance via the top of the driver, with a face flex that generates greater ball speed. The crown’s pattern of indentations stiffens the structure for even more flex functionality and rigid L-Cup design that moves welding lines off the face. Woods and hybrids boast heavy steel soles and titanium frames for better low-spin flight and distance-enhancing ball speed.
In addition, BERES Nx solves a thin-face vibration issue, which often gives the less-experienced player a bit of a shock. A dense tungsten plug in the club toe and polymer resin cylinder lengthens the player’s center of gravity to improve stability of the head at impact.
Searching for even smoother swings and accuracy? The monochromatic and beautifully modern BERES Nx Triple Star clubs feature Honma’s exclusive VIZARD shaft. Constructed with the same technology as BERES Nx, Triple Star’s style and shaft advancements define its beautifully crafted performance. Ultra-high elasticity prepreg, low frequency and low torque create higher trajectory and distance and consistent precision.
Honma brings tremendous pride to every club it makes. Although the brand has long been treasured by players at the very top of their game, Honma has succeeded in diversifying its of-
ferings to appeal to discerning golfers of all levels who are serious about investing in their passion and showcasing the beauty of the sport with every move.
Good growth means Honma will uncompromisingly deliver Stunning Perfor mance to all corners of the world— wherever golf is played, enjoyed, and revered.
By John MoloriThe golf world is filled with club fitters and builders, all professing personal service and custom work. However, nestled in a pocket of golf heaven in Providence, RI is the real deal. His name is Jon Pannone and his business is Spargo Golf.
Pannone, 36, began his apprenticeship under the tutelage
of Tom Spargo, the legendary club fitter, in 2016. He has owned the shop since 2019 and has been spreading his golf gospel to a vast array of new and returning customers. The brand of club is secondary. Trust is what keeps customers coming back. We are fitters. These are the tenets upon which Pannone has built his national reputation.
He explains, “To me, customer service and building trust means being there for players, listening to their goals in the fit, and doing our best to accomplish them. Our focus is being reliable, open, and honest with players.
“We work long and hard hours to get clubs done for players in the time frames they seek. Most importantly, we provide a great experience - having a positive attitude through the very simple fact that I really love and am obsessed with golf.”
Indeed, Spargo is more than a golf facility, it is a laboratory, and Pannone is more than a fitter, he is a scientist. In the course of a session, he is constantly communicating
with clients, asking them what they want their shots to look like and what works for their swings. They discuss particular shot scenarios. Pannone gets personal information from the client and tailors his club construction to the customers’ goals.
“We provide driver/woods fitting where we focus on the gapping off the tee and long approach shots,” says Pannone. “The iron/hybrid/wedge is designed to dial in the scoring parts of the bag. Then, the putter fitting puts all the pieces together. Each fitting is two hours long.”
Pannone’s success as a fitter comes from his background as a player. He learned the game from his parents at Potowomut Golf Club in Warwick, RI and counts Rhode Island golf legend Angie Santilli as one of his early influences.
Pannone played at the University of Rhode Island for two years under Coach Tom Drennan. He then transferred to the University of South Carolina where he met a key golf mentor, swing teacher and coach Shane LeBaron.
From there, it was a golf playing odyssey. Pannone explains, “I moved out west to compete in any pro event I could. I traveled around the west coast for four years with the goal of making a living playing golf.”
This experience has turned Spargo Golf into an incubator where better golf is nurtured. Pannone talks the language of golf to his clients, as if they were walking up the fairway together between shots. His input is as personal as it is professional. While the client swings, Pannone monitors the motion at his computer. This is the place where technique and technology meet.
Pannone has been honored as one of the top club fitters in America by Golf Digest, PING, Mizuno, and ACCRA, but that is not what drives him. “Those honors are nice wall ornaments, but it’s not why we are in this business,” he professes.
“We prefer the words from players that have been through our process. Hearing players say it was an incredible experience, that they can’t wait to tell their friends, telling us that we are doing what we are supposed to be doing in life. This means so much more to us.”
One of these players is Dylan Edwards of Johnston, RI, a 31 year-old wealth management professional who has been coming to Spargo for five years. He states, “I trust Jon’s perspective to understand what I need in a club to have as much confidence as possible.”
“I came here recently to get some fairway woods which are probably the hardest club for any player to grab. Jon understood what I was looking for in a head shape and in a shaft response. That was a very detailed and intimate conversation. Within just 45 minutes, we were able to rule out three brands. That gave me the knowledge that I can take the club and hit any shot I want.”
Edwards talks about what separates Pannone and Spargo Golf from the competition. “Jon brings a player’s perspective
to his work. He can tailor his conversation toward trying to break 80 or 90. At the same time, we can talk about carry distance and what window of trajectory we are looking for on a particular shot. His ability to communicate and connect with a player is astounding.”
Pannone hands out shared credit as seamlessly as he does golf analysis. “I have to talk about my man Steve Coletta,” he relates. “Steve is our putter fitter. He holds down the shop while I am in fittings 8 hours a day. I wouldn’t be here without his passion, commitment and love for the game.”
Ah yes, love for the game. It runs through every one of Pannone’s appointments, conversations, and fittings. He truly has found his niche and knows how fortunate he is.
“I turned my wife Caitlin into a golf nut so we play 3 to 4 days a week together. I still compete in Monday’s and State Opens around New England. Fitting has allowed me to have the balance of both worlds. My goal has now changed to showing the golf world that fitters are just as important as teachers. I truly feel like the luckiest pro in the world.”

THE 19TH HOLE
FROM TIME TO TIME, the conversation at the 19th hole can hit on interesting, maybe even profound topics, and we thought it would be fun to share some of them with our readers. Be aware we recognize there will always be differences of opinion and aren’t looking forward to generating any heated discussions.
Consider this to be a conversation between longtime friends who respect each other’s thinking…even when they are wrong.
What the heck is a shoey and who would ever think it was a good idea?
When one thinks of Australia, images of cuddly koala bears, the magnificent Sydney Opera House or maybe the sparkling beaches come to mind but probably not a shoey, the celebratory drinking of an
alcoholic beverage from a shoe…a shoe that presumably has just gone a full 18 holes on the foot of an event winner.
The word you’re searching for here is “eeew.”
Recently two high profile golfers have indulged in shoeys, something even strongstomached individuals might be reluctant to copy. Hannah Green, who won the JM Eagle Championship at prestigious Wilshire Country Club at the end of April also took first place at the Vic Open in her native Australia and capped that win by pouring champagne in her right shoe and putting it to her lips for a swallow. At the time, a commentator observed she had at least turned her shoe over to knock out any loose impediments prior to the tippling. No
word whether her recent win in Los Angeles was followed with the same celebration.
The trend seems to have been accepted by some male professionals as well when last year’s Open Champion Australian Cameron Smith was egged on by social media personality DJ Fisher to do a shoey at the LIV Golf Adelaide event. Smith succumbed to the pressure of the situation and complied, though he didn’t win. The winner in Adelaide, Talor Gooch, did imbibe a shoey and he isn’t even an Australian. Born in Oklahoma, former PGA Tour member, Gooch right now is as hot a player as any in the world, so perhaps any ill effects of a shoey are not as pronounced as more sane people might think.
For the record, although the shoey has
been around for years, it has not become a frequent occurrence in golf. F1 star driver Daniel Ricciardo’s shoey celebrations seem to have been the start of the recent interest and as you might have guessed, Riccardo is an Australian.
There hasn’t been much said about the innovative approach to golf as pure spectator entertainment begun by Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy in the form of a new golf league named TGL. Six teams of three players each will compete in an indoor arena with a large screen virtual course for full shots and a separate short game area. The inaugural season is slated to begin in January 2024 at a venue being built at Palm Beach State College in South Florida.
When TGL was announced by TMRW Sports, a company founded by Woods, McIlroy and former Golf Channel president Mike McCarley, one insider’s description was “indoor golf on steroids.”
Besides Woods and McIlroy, other PGA Tour members committed to the first season are: Matt Fitzpatrick, Ricky Fowler, Max Homa, Billy Horschel, Collin Morikawa, Jon Rahm, Justin Rose, Adam Scott, Justin Thomas and Xander Schauffele. If this all works out, golf fans are in for a treat.
Woods has said, “TGL is the next evolution within professional golf, and I am committed to helping lead it into the future. Embracing technology to create this unique environment gives us the ability to move our sport into primetime on a consistent basis alongside so many of sports’ biggest events. As a big sports fan myself, I’m excited about blending golf with technology and team elements common in other sports. We all know what it’s like to be in a football stadium or a basketball arena where you can watch every play, every minute of action unfold right in front of you. It’s something that inherently isn’t possible in traditional golf — and an aspect of TGL that will set it apart and appeal
to a new generation of fans.”
Sounds intriguing. At present, the schedule calls for fifteen 18-hole matches lasting two-hours held on Monday nights and followed by playoffs and a season ending championship match.
The new league is co-sponsored by the PGA Tour and has several high-profile investors including San Diego Wave star Alex Morgan, NBA greats Stephen Curry and Shaquille O’Neal, pro tennis’ Serena Williams, Los Angles Angels slugger Mike Trout, Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills and entertainer Justin Timberlake.
It doesn’t take any inside knowledge to conclude TGL is a part of the PGAT’s strategy to compete with LIV Golf, Greg Norman’s Saudi Arabian-funded series that is attempting to carve a niche in the world of professional golf at the expense of the PGAT. Cutting through LIV Golf’s pressagent-hyperbole about creating new and different opportunities, it’s easy to overlook their events are only 54-holes and still played on a traditional golf course, a contrast to TGL’s plan for using cutting-edge technology to bring the shots and game excitement to fans both in the arena and at home through special software and hardware developed by CapTech Ventures.
The larger question of course is, will the PGAT be successful with TGL as part of the battle plan against LIV Golf?
Has Paige Spiranac solved the slow play problem?
Social media personality Paige Spiranac blistered the PGA Tour for slow play and though she didn’t mention any names, everyone assumed Patrick Cantlay’s glacial pace at the Masters was the reason.
Spiranac on Twitter said, among other things, “I’ve seen paint dry faster than that round was finished…If you take longer than 40 seconds [to hit a shot], you should get penalized. It’s in the rule books, people.”
For the record, the USGA Rule 5 states, ‘When it is your turn to play, it is recommended that you make the stroke in no more than 40 seconds, and usually more quickly than that.” Further, Rule 5.6 assesses penalties for taking too long of one stroke for the first offence, two for the second and disqualification if you get nabbed a third time.
According to many, Spiranac, a former minitour player and now a social media influencer and brand ambassador, has hit the nail on the head. Of course, if it were that simple, we wouldn’t have been talking about it for the last 150 years.
THE ROARING TWENTIES of the 20th Century was a period in American history of dramatic social, economic, and political change. For the first time, more Americans lived in cities than on farms. The nation’s total wealth more than doubled between 1920 and 1929, and gross national product (GNP) expanded by 40 percent from 1922 to 1929. It may also be noted in history that the “Not So Roaring Twenties” of the 21st Century was a period of dramatic social and economic collapse from the pandemic and overall mistrust in our systems. More Americans than at any time in history left cities to live in more open spaces. Gated, protected, community living became one of
the most preferred living choices of people and families throughout the country.
With lush amenities and the opportunity to play a round of golf whenever you like, living in a gated golf community is ideal for avid golfers. Other factors such as a championship golf course, practice facilities, community design plan and amenities closely follow. Two new carefree neighborhoods ideally located at Waterscapes. Open, light-filled homes designed with the luxury features and modern conveniences you’ve always wanted.
When I first started exploring golf on Cape Cod years ago, an insider clued me in to Cranberry Valley Golf Course in Harwich. Over the years, this classic Geoffrey Cornish/Bill Robinson design has constantly lured me back. The course bills itself as “The Best Day of Golf on the Cape.” Although there is a lot of good golf on the Cape, I wouldn’t take issue with this claim.
Cranberry Valley is an eminently playable course, offering a wide variety of holes. It can play 6,745 yards from the tips, but you have a number of tee options: Blue (6,482), White (6,142), Silver (5,686), Red (5,568), and Green (5,060). The course is known for its strong finishing three holes. The signature 18th hole, a double-dogleg par-5, is a fitting finish to your round.
Bob Miller is one of the most well-known instructors on the Cape, and works with five PGA and LPGA instructors offering clinics, lessons, and fitness programs. We have a whole section of the range devoted to golf instruction.
Cranberry Valley has always been known for its outstanding conditions. Director of Golf Roman Greer remarked that “people are always surprised that we’re not a private club because of our manicured conditions.” The borders of the holes are well-main-
BY JACK ROSStained, so the course is not overly penal. “We’re a very golfer friendly course,” noted Greer. And with a top greens fee during peak season of $85, the course remains a good value.
But while Cranberry Valley has perennially been a must-play venue on the Cape, recent changes are making it even more attractive. Greer and his team learned a lesson when Covid required a 15-minute tee time spacing. The course has adopted a 10-minute spacing between groups (formerly 8-minutes). “This has been a game-changer,” remarked Greer. The spacing eliminated back-ups on par-3 holes and creates a better flow of play. “We’ve gotten a lot of positive feedback,” Greer noted.
Another vestige of the Covid era is the remote check-in system, which speeds access to the course. Players may pay and check-in at the starter shack. This also allows the pro shop staff to spend more time with shoppers.
Cranberry Valley has also become the hub for junior golf on the Cape. It has a First Tee program, which fosters golf and life skills among junior golfers. In addition, the course hosts the only Drive, Chip and Putt qualifier on the Cape, where young golfers begin their quest to make the finals at Augusta National Golf
Club during Masters week.
The course also participates in the Junior PGA League, which provides opportunities for golfers between the ages of 6-13 to compete in a team format. Greer explained that the program is based on the Little League baseball model; young golfers are thrust into competition which complements other instruction programs.
But that’s not all. Greer is excited about plans to add a 9-hole par-3 course to provide an additional option to a 4 ½ hour round of golf. “These courses are all the rage in golf,” commented Greer. “Many people want to learn on an easier course, or just have a different experience.” The course is in the design phase, and will have holes ranging from 60 yards to 125 yards.
In addition, there are plans to add a putting complex and course, with more hills and undulations than the typical putting green. Players will be able to refine their putting skills while playing a sequence of holes.
Next year, Cranberry Valley will celebrate its 50th anniversary. There is much to celebrate as this historic gem on the Cape continues to expand its golf menu. Speaking of menus, be sure to cap your round with drinks and food at Jake’s pub: the best 19th Hole on the Cape.

Built for golfers who understand that golf is not con ned to a season. Inspired by the Paci c Northwest where the elements enhance the experience and provide the memories that do not t on a scorecard. The course is calling.
