SUZANNE FONTAINE
Shannon McLenithan Senior VP, Retail Lending, The Bank of Bennington From the nominator: “Shannon is an exemplary leader/mentor in the banking industry. Her career spans two decades of evolving from bank teller, loan administration and operations, to an exacting senior position at TBOB. In banking and in life, she sets the bar of excellence for her peers and family. Leading by
example, she has helped scores of successful women in their development of their best attributes. She mentors them to do better and be better. Aside from her banking career, she can be seen working her farm in Pownal, raising her own beef, and canning vegetables as a hobby. She serves in many organizations, including Chamber Board of Directors, Garlicfest volunteer, Town of Pownal Rec and Economic Development Committees, Cal Ripken Board Member, managing the books of a local church, as well as a former T-ball coach. She's a former member of Williamstown Rotary, and very passionate about serving others in her community. It was difficult to decide which category of your awards to nominate her for. Shannon is a savvy business woman who also exemplifies the virtues of Lindy Lynch. I'm proud to recommend her for this award.”
Fiona Morton Founder and Co-owner, Bonnet & Main Café From the nominator: “Fiona has combined her baking passion with partner Suzanne Fontaine at Bonnet & Main Cafe in Downtown Manchester. Fiona’s scratch baked deserts are second to none—creating some of the best Carrot Cake and Key Lime Pie with locally sourced
FIONA MORTON ingredients that support a healthy customer demand, and employs an amazing team of baristas, bakers and cooks to provide a much needed, woman-owned local business service to the Manchester Community. Fiona and Suzanne have created a beautiful, welcoming, inclusive space for the community to enjoy conversation, small meetings, remote work, and of course delicious food!”

“Kathy is a vocal, positive voice in Bennington and says what needs to be said. She is just as concerned about our community as a whole as she is about her own business, because she knows we all depend on each other to survive and succeed. “Kathy walks the walk too. A few years ago she personally paid for the installation and a full years worth of rent on a billboard that promoted Bennington. Her business was not mentioned on the promotion; she only promoted Bennington history as a lure for travelers. “The few reasons I am giving for this recognition are just the tip of the iceberg of what Kathy has done for this community and the support she has given it. “Those who have known Kathy for many years and have witnessed all that I’m addressing would wholeheartedly agree that Kathy is well deserving of this recognition!”

From the nominator: “Kate has dedicated an enormous amount of time throughout her life to volunteering in her community. When her children were very young she ran the Little League program in Arlington. As they grew older she began managing the score book for the baseball games and running the scoreboard for the basketball games (something she has continued doing even after her children have graduated). Kate sits on the Arlington Area Renewal Project, serving on several of their committees, is an officer on the Arlington Legion Ladies Auxiliary board, sits on the GNAT board of directors and is an Elk in the Bennington Lodge. Kate is one of the first people you think of when you have a project that you need volunteers for. She is selfless with her time and has instilled those same qualities in her children.”
Lisa Byer Executive Director, Catamount Access Television From the nominator: “Lisa Byer has worked in the Community Access Television field for over 20 years. She has led the charge here in
LISA BYER Bennington and throughout the state of Vermont serving on the Vermont Access Network Board. She has grown CAT-TV over the years from one to three channels and saw the transition from analog to digital. CAT-TV covers 20 live meetings per month all streamed to local Channels 16 and 17, plus Facebook and the CAT-TV website. CAT-TV continues to be the source for everything local and a place community members can learn to use video equipment and have their voices heard. “Most recently she led the legal fight against Comcast to ensure they fulfill the Vermont Certificate of Public Good and won a settlement that will make sure that CAT-TV and all Vt. AMOs continue to have the services they deserve. “Lisa has led many community endeavors to include the Capital Christmas Tree, both Moosefests, and the Catamount Prowl. Additionally, she is an active Rotary member and on the Board at Second Chance Animal Center. Lisa has always put Bennington first, volunteering for nearly every community event including Garlicfest, the Car Show, Pancake Breakfest, Brewfests and many more. She epitomizes the spirit of Lindy Lynch and was also a dear friend of hers.”
ANDRE-ANNE CHENAILLE Andre-Anne Chenaille Wetlands Specialist, Guntlow & Associates Inc. From the nominator: “Giving back to her community has been a way of life beginning at a very young age. She stood beside her family serving at school bazaars, fundraisers and benefit dinners since elementary school, including participating in the animal adventure camp during the summer. She also began racing BMX at the age of six at her local track at Willow Park, then expanded her racing throughout the Northeast for the past 18 years. The deterioration of the local track brought her home to her calling. While away at Paul Smith’s College for four years, she served in Paul Smith’s Gabriel Fire Department and volunteered at Tucker’s Farm in Saranac Lake. She dreamed of being able to race the Catamount BMX track again one day, and wanted to give other racers the same opportunity. She has stepped up to the plate as the new track operator, which is a very tall order. Her first course of action was to apply for and receive approval from USA BMX for their organization to assist with the track re-build. She has raised several thousand dollars and is receiving the assistance of local contractors for the revitalization. She is an avid follower and volunteer for the Bennington Chamber, including Garlicfest and Home Brew. I’m proud to recommend her for the Lindy Lynch Community Leader Award.”

ber of Commerce, hosts the Stay To Stay welcome receptions at her inn, offers the talents of her staff and family to help with town projects and brings bloggers and social media influencers to town on a regular basis to help promote the area. “Lynn is deserving of all the recognition she receives and then some!”
Meg Kenny Associate Head of School, Burr and Burton Academy From the nominator: “Meg is the first woman Associate Head in the long history of Burr and Burton Academy, and she is a leader in every sense of the word. She has perhaps the most difficult job at the school: setting high performance expectations for students, staff and faculty; keeping parents informed and happy with their children’s educational experience, and working long hours to simply keep the school moving in a positive, forward direction. Meg is a highly reflective and thoughtful educator and school administrator who leads with kindness, compassion and empathy. She listens carefully before making decisions, and makes decisions based on the best interests of the students. She handles tough situations regularly, with grace. Burr and Burton and the larger community are the direct beneficiaries of Meg’s work and leadership; BBA is a great school in large part because of Meg’s tireless efforts to make it so.”
KATHERINE KEYS Katherine Keys Organizer, Bennington Farmer’s Market From the nominator: “Katherine is an exceptional organizer. From its inception, Katherine has been the key person in keeping the Bennington Farmer’s Market going and ensuring that only the best products are offered at the market. She maintains high standards and encourages both new and long-time vendors to participate. Her efforts support local producers, craftspeople and musicians. Our town uniquely benefits from Katherine’s efforts with fresh local produce, dairy, eggs, maple syrup and handmade crafts. Katherine is truly dedicated in serving our town and making Bennington a better place.”
Kiah Morris Community Leader and Educator From the nominator: Nominated “because of the incredible work she has done and continues to do for the children in this community and this state.”

From the nominator: “Lynn owns and operates one of the most beautiful and successful bed and breakfasts in Vermont. The Four Chimneys Inn has received the distinction of “Best B&B in Vermont” by Yankee Magazine and “Best Inns in Vermont” by Fodor’s. “As a business owner outside of the downtown district, Lynn saw the importance of supporting and promoting downtown for the benefit of the entire community. She started the group “Grow Bennington” to raise awareness and funds to support downtown beautification projects. Due to her efforts in the first year, almost 40 trees were lighted with miniature lights for the winter season, and colorful, promotional banners were hung from the downtown streetlamps. “Lynn also spearheaded a major fundraising effort that was successful in securing funds to help with the expense of the construction at Merchants Park in Downtown Bennington. The park will feature a performance stage, splash pad, seating and landscaping to enhance the streetscape. “In addition, Lynn also started the Bennington Marketing Group that successfully launched the Vermont Begins Here marketing campaign, which already features the revitalized website vermontbeginshere.com. “Lynn also serves on the Board of the Cham-

Paula LaPorte Owner, Paula’s Weaving Workshop From the nominator: “Paula is not only the
business owner of an incredibly interesting shop in downtown Bennington, she is also a very talented weaver and creative artist. She has served for years on the board of the Bennington Arts Guild and recently joined
the board of the Bennington Area Arts Council. Over the years she was an active member of the Better Bennington Corporation Arts Committee. Paula did the honors of reweaving a Bennington historical icon when the “Big Chair” was brought back to life a few years ago. Her work is still visible and constantly admired at the Big Chair’s new location on Washington Avenue. Paula has participated in multiple street art projects in Bennington as both an artist and a volunteer. Her talent and her efforts are some of the reasons Bennington is recognized as one of the “Top 5 Arts Vibrant Communities” in the country!”
Elizabeth Wilwol Owner, The Gift Garden From the nominator: Elizabeth (Beth) Wilwol has been in the floral industry for over 30 years. She spent 27 of those years working for The Gift Garden, before purchasing the store with her husband, Dwain, in January 2015 after the previous owner retired. After purchasing the store and making some significant changes, such as rebranding and expanding the gift and flower lines, they outgrew their space at 343 Main St. and moved to a much larger and more central location at 431 Main St., which is their home today. The Gift
ELIZABETH WILWOL Garden is now a downtown anchor. Beth not only balances the day to day operations of the Florist and Gift Shop; she designs, merchandises and is the primary buyer for the store. It gives her great pleasure to provide the Bennington community and surrounding area with the utmost customer service and quality products. Beth is a very dedicated business owner. Along with balancing the day to day operations of running a business, she takes care of her family’s household and helped care for her father-in-law, and now helps care for her mother-in-law, who suffers from Alzheimer’s. Beth and Dwain have been married for 30 years and have two daughters, Megan and Emily, and a son-in-law, Kyle.

shop on Main Street with the help of her large, close-knit family. She has over 30 years experience and brought every bit of it with her when she opened this beautiful restaurant that is one of the most attractive spots on Main Street. She is the perfect example of what business women can do: she works tirelessly to make sure her restaurant is clean, attractive, staffed with professional and friendly people, and serving top-notch food all while raising her children to be active and involved members in our community. While most people would claim that you can’t do both, Kim proves everyone wrong! She is a wonderful asset to Main Street, to her family, and to our entire community!”
