Blake Greene BURR AND BURTON

Blake had a season for the ages for the Bulldogs in 2018-19. He was at the top of the podium for every race he ran, including a pair of individual victories at the state championships at Burke Mountain. At states, he won the giant slalom by 1.3 seconds and the slalom by almost four seconds. Blake was the champion in both disciplines at Southern Districts, and scored victories in the Dave Pinder Memorial, the Rutland meet and BBA’s home event at Bromley.

Annabelle Gray BURR AND BURTON

GREENE

Annabelle, a freshman, had a strong rookie season on the slopes for the Bulldogs. She won the Bromley race in February on BBA’s home course and finished top five in a handful of other races, including a second-place finish at the Dave Pinder Memorial, a fourth at Rutland and a second-place finish in the giant slalom at Southern Districts. She proved she could handle both the slalom and giant slalom, scoring a third-place finish in that event at Districts.

ALPINE SKIING

John Morgantini BURR AND BURTON

John had a breakout year for the Burr and Burton baseball team in 2019. Hitting in the middle of the order, he hit over .500 for much of the season. He had many standout performances, with one of his best coming against rival MAU, where he went 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Along with his offense, John provided great defensive play at first base for BBA.

MORGANTINI

Chandler Pouk BURR AND BURTON

Chandler remained as one of the best hitters in the Burr and Burton baseball team’s lineup with a potent senior year. In a run-rule win against MAU, he went 3-for-4 with three runs scored. Whether hitting in the middle of the order or in the No. 2 spot, where he was moved part way through the season, he was always a multi-hit threat. Chandler was last Gala’s baseball Most Valuable Player.

Evan Webster HOOSICK FALLS

Evan was the go-to pitcher for the Hoosick Falls baseball team all season long. He turned into the Panthers’ ace and stepped up in many crucial games. Against No. 1 seed Chatham in the sectional tournament, he tossed a three-hitter, and in a pitchers’ duel with rival MAU, he threw a five-hit shutout. Evan is a major piece of the Hoosick Falls bowling team as well.

POUK

WEBSTER

Mike led a Hoosick Falls baseball team that was seeded No. 13 in the Class C sectional tournament, all the way to the sectional title game, where they fell to Fort Plain. With a team that lost a handful of crucial pieces to graduation, he led the Panthers to a better record than last year, finishing at 12-10. Pitching was a concern coming into the season, but under his watch, Evan Webster turned into one of the most reliable pitchers in the area and the pitching staff ended up being a strength.

BASKETBALL

Jon Kempf HOOSICK FALLS

KEMPF

Jon was the top scoring option for a Hoosick Falls boys basketball team that went 21-2 and made it all the way to the Class C sectional championship game, before falling to Lake George. He averaged 21.8 points per game on the year and got his points in many different ways, whether it be from driving to the basket, hitting the three-point shot or his stellar shooting from the foul line. He had his best game of the year during a sectional tournament game against Canajoharie, where he scored a career-high 41 points. Jon became the fourth player in program history to score 1,000 points in their career and was named the Wasaren League most valuable player and to the Class C all-state fifth team at season’s end.

He led the Panthers to a 21-2 record and to the Class C sectional championship game, where they fell to Lake George. Late in the year, he had to deal with the loss of starting center and major scoring threat Tristan Williams and still saw his team reach the same level they did in last year’s sectional tournament.
