INVITATION TO BID The Town of Otis will receive bids for Mass DOT approved applications for the Full Depth Reclamation & Paving of Dimmock, Ed Jones, Merritt, & Judd Roads until Tues., Aug. 24th, 2021 at 2:00 PM. Bids will be publicly opened and read aloud at that time at the below address. Specifications are to be requested in writing from townadmin@townofotisma.com. Bids are to be submitted to the office of the Selectboard, Town of Otis, 1 North Main Rd., P.O. Box 237, Otis, MA 01253 on or before the above date and time in sealed envelopes plainly marked: INVITATION TO BID – 2021 OHD ROAD PAVING. Bid prices shall include all labor, equipment and material for a complete in place product at Dimmock, Ed Jones, Merritt, & Judd Rd. Bid prices are to be based on FDR with calcium, application of HMA Binder & Top mix along with Tack coat in between courses.

SPECIFICATIONS The project consists of four sections totaling approximately 24,360 Sq. YDs FDR of the existing blacktop surface, calcium chloride at a rate of 1 Gal. per sq. yard, and the application of a HMA Binder course of two inches and HMA top course of one and a half inches approximately 4690 tons. Tack coat at a rate of .05 gallons a square yard in between courses along with a Wedge joint to be installed on both layers of HMA as well. Traffic control to be provided by the town and work is to be completed by October 30, 2021 unless weather permits otherwise. The base price for liquid asphalt at this time is $542.50 per ton and the base price for diesel shall be $2.56 per gallon. Price adjustment clause in effect for hot mix asphalt mixtures. Bids are to include base price of liquid asphalt and diesel and must be OSHA 10 certified. Project to be completed per current Mass DOT specifications. Project is to be bid as one package. Prevailing wage applies as per M.G.L. Chapter 149, Section 26 to 27F and a wage schedule is included with the specifications. A 100% performance bond is required of successful bidder, 5% bond required with bid. Contractor must be pre-qualified by Mass DOT. DRIVEWAYS, LOT CLEARING AND MUCH MORE “We do a lot of driveways,” he said, noting that some in hilly, rural areas driveways can be quite

long, and building them with gravel instead of asphalt can save homeowners thousands of dollars. His company also gets tapped by residential customers who “want to clear a building lot or make their yard bigger,” he said. “We do a lot of septic systems,” Walker continued. “Or if someone wants to tear down an old barn.” Contractors bring commercial projects to him largely because of word of mouth about his business’s reputation, he said. “They work with the guys they know and respect,” he said.

DIVERSE SERVICES Walker said he prefers to do a diverse mix of services, rather than specialize in one type of work. It just makes sense to do so when working in smaller communities. “In Boston, you could specialize in one thing,” he said.
