We produce liquid vitamin and mineral supplements that are easy to take, offer higher absorption rates and can be developed in a number of great-tasting flavours. We are particularly skilled at developing emulsions, as well as working with dispersions, oils and syrups Our portfolio of gels can be packaged in to individual foil sealed sachets which are ideal for products such as energy gels, glucose, or children’s supplements, where it can be more convenient to carry a disposable sachet instead of a large bottle or tube. Many of the liquid formulations that we offer can be made in to gels for filling tear-top sachets. These are particularly effective for single-serve solutions, or when the convenience of being able to use on-the-go is important. Sprays may be particularly beneficial for children or older people who can struggle to swallow a tablet or capsule. As sprays bypass the acidic stomach environment and are absorbed into the bloodstream directly through capillary networks in the mouth, they are particularly effective for people who may suffer with malabsorption issues. As well as been more fast-acting, it is argued that sprays may be a more effective delivery format.

YOGA

ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW

On June 21, 2022, the world celebrated the eighth International Day of Yoga. Let's take a closer look at its history and benefits. Yoga literally translates to "unity." Union is when you start to realize how universal you are. For instance, current science can now show you without a shadow of a doubt that everything in the universe is just one energy that manifests itself in different ways. You are doing yoga if the scientific fact that everything is connected to everything else becomes a reality for you. When practicing yoga, you view everything as a component of yourself.

History Due to sacred texts' oral transmission, as well as the secrecy surrounding its teachings, much of yoga's past is shrouded in mystery and confusion. The earliest teachings of yoga were originally written on flimsy palm leaves that might be easily ruined, lost, or damaged. Although some academics believe that yoga may be up to 10,000 years old, its evolution may be traced back to more than 5,000 years ago. The four primary eras of innovation, practice, and progress in yoga's lengthy and rich history can be distinguished.

Pre-Classical Yoga Over 5,000 years ago, the Indus-Sarasvati culture in Northern India created the earliest forms of yoga. The Rig Veda, one of the earliest sacred books, is where the word "yoga" first appears. The Vedas were a body of writings utilized by Brahmans, the Vedic priests, and contained hymns, mantras, and ceremonies. The Brahmans and Rishis (mystic seers), who documented their practices and ideas in the Upanishads, a massive compilation with more than 200 texts, gradually improved and enhanced yoga.

Classical Yoga Yoga's pre-classical era saw it assimilate a variety of concepts, viewpoints, and practices that frequently clashed and contradicted one another. The first systematic presentation of yoga by Patanjali, the Yoga-Sûtras, is what distinguishes the Classical era. This document, which was likely written in the second century, describes the way of RAJA YOGA, sometimes known as "classical yoga." To achieve Samadhi or enlightenment, Patanjali divided the practice of yoga into an "eight-limbed route," or progression. Since his Yoga-Sûtras are still a major impact on the majority of contemporary yoga systems, Patanjali is frequently regarded as the founder of yoga.

Post-Classical Yoga A few centuries after Patanjali, yoga teachers developed a set of techniques intended to revitalize the body and lengthen life. They disregarded the ancient Vedic teachings and supported the use of the physical body as a path to enlightenment. To untie the knots holding us to our physical life, they created Tantra Yoga, an extreme kind of self-purification. What we typically think of as yoga in the West is called Hatha Yoga, and it was developed through the discovery of these physical-spiritual linkages and body-centered practices.

Modern Era Yoga gurus started to visit the West in the late 1800s and early 1900s, drawing interest and disciples. Swami Vivekananda's teachings on yoga and the commonality of all religions at the 1893 Parliament of Religions in Chicago catalyzed this. With the help of T. Krishnamacharya, Swami Sivananda, and other Hatha Yoga practitioners, Hatha Yoga was vigorously promoted in India during the 1920s and 1930s. In Mysore, Krishnamacharya founded the first Hatha Yoga school in 1924, and on the banks of the sacred Ganges River, Sivananda established the Divine Life Society in 1936. Three of Krishnamacharya's pupils—B.K.S. Iyengar, T.K.V. Desikachar, and Pattabhi Jois—would carry on his legacy and broaden the appeal of Hatha Yoga. In addition to founding nine ashrams and several yoga centres all over the world, Sivananda was a prolific author who penned more than 200 books on yoga.

Benefits of Yoga It improves flexibility With the help of yoga, you can increase the range of motion in your tight places by moving your body and stretching in novel ways. Your hamstrings, back, shoulders, and hips should get more flexible over time. Flexibility typically declines with age, especially if you spend a lot of time sitting down, which can cause pain and immobility. Yoga can assist in stopping this process.

It builds strength When doing yoga, you must support your body weight in a variety of creative and frequently challenging ways, such as by standing on one leg or using your arms, in order to perform several yoga postures. By holding these poses for a number of breaths, you can improve your muscles' endurance and strength. Muscle tone should be improved as a side effect of strength gains. Your legs, arms, back, and stomach may develop long, slender muscles as a result of yoga.

It improves balance Any age can benefit from balance training. Athletes believe yoga can increase their strength and energetic people discover that it can improve their exercises and fitness level. You can move more effectively through daily life by practicing balance since it improves posture and functionality. Yoga focuses more on finding your sense of oneness with nature, the world, and yourself than it does on physical fitness. It can improve well-being by altering our lifestyle and fostering consciousness.

ENTER THE WORLD OF SLEEP What happens to our bodies when we are sleeping?

Our brain and body when we sleep Sleep accounts for one-quarter to one-third of the human lifespan. But what exactly happens when you sleep? Before the 1950s, most people believed sleep was a passive activity during which the body and brain were dormant. But it turns out that sleep is a period during which the brain is engaged in a number of activities necessary to life—which are closely linked to quality of life. Sleep is a complex and dynamic process that affects how you function in different ways. Scientists are just now beginning to understand how sleep affects almost every type of tissue and system in the body—from the brain, heart, and lungs to metabolism, immune function, mood, and disease resistance. It is especially important for a number of brain functions. When you sleep, your body undergoes a series of changes that enable the rest that is vital to your overall health. Sleep allows the brain and body to slow down and engage in processes of recovery, promoting better physical and mental performance the next day and over the long-term. What happens when you don’t sleep is that these fundamental processes are short-circuited, affecting thinking, concentration, energy levels, and mood. As a result, getting the sleep you need, seven to nine hours for adults and even more for children and teens, is crucial.

How does sleep change during the night? During a normal sleep period, you progress through four to five sleep cycles. Each sleep cycle is made up of four individual sleep stages. The four stages of sleep are further broken down into two categories: Rapid eye movement (REM) and non-REM sleep. These categories are important because what happens during REM sleep is dramatically different from what happens during non-REM stages. The first three stages of sleep are composed of non-REM activity. Stage one is short, representing the act of dozing off and transitioning into sleep. In Stage two, the body and mind slow down as you settle into sleep. It’s easiest to be awoken during these first two stages. In Stage three, also known as deep sleep, the body is in recovery mode, slowing down even further. At the same time, overall brain activity slows and shows a tell-tale pattern of pulses of activity that are believed to help prevent unwanted awakenings.

The fourth stage is REM sleep. During REM periods, brain activity shoots back up to levels similar to when you’re awake—which explains why REM is associated with the most intense dreams. While breathing and heart rate increase during REM sleep, most muscles are paralyzed, which keeps us from acting out those vivid dreams. Each sleep cycle takes between 70 - 120 minutes. In the first sleep cycles of the night, more time is spent in non-REM sleep. The majority of REM sleep happens during the second half of the night. The progression of sleep stages and cycles in one sleep period is known as sleep architecture

What happens to your brain and body during sleep? Virtually every part of the body experiences notable changes during sleep. Upon falling asleep, thousands of neurons in the brain switch from waking to sleeping state, sending signals throughout the body. While the biological role of sleep still isn’t fully understood, research demonstrates that it reinforces the cardiovascular and immune systems and helps regulate metabolism. What happens to the brain during sleep can be seen in notable changes in core bodily processes..

Brain Activity During sleep, brain waves show clear patterns associated with each sleep stage. In the early parts of non-REM sleep, brain waves slow down considerably. In Stage 2 and Stage 3, there are numerous quick bursts of brain activity. In REM sleep, brain activity accelerates, showing markedly different types of brain waves. Heightened brain activity is why REM sleep is known as the stage most associated with vivid dreaming. REM sleep is thought to enable critical cognitive abilities, including memory consolidation, but non-REM sleep, even with reduced brain activity, is also believed to play a role in facilitating proper brain function while awake.

Dreaming Dreaming is most prevalent and intense during REM sleep, but it can occur during any sleep stage. That said, dreams that happen during non-REM and REM sleep tend to show different patterns with REM dreams often being more fanciful, immersive, or bizarre.

What happens if you have a sleeping disorder? Sleep paralysis A condition characterized by a feeling of being conscious but unable to move. It occurs when a person passes between stages of wakefulness and sleep. During these transitions, you may be unable to move or speak for a few seconds up to a few minutes. Some people may also feel pressure or a sense of choking. Sleep paralysis may accompany other sleep disorders such as narcolepsy, which is an overpowering need to sleep caused by a problem with the brain's ability to regulate sleep.

Lucid dreams It occurs when you know that you’re dreaming while you’re asleep. You’re aware that the events flashing through your brain aren’t really happening. But the dream feels vivid and real. You may even be able to control how the action unfolds, as if you’re directing a movie in your sleep. Studies suggest that about half of people may have had at least one lucid dream. But they probably don’t happen often, usually only a handful of times in a year. Lucid dreams are most common during rapid eye movement (REM) sleep, a period of very deep sleep marked by eye motion, faster breathing, and more brain activity. You usually enter REM sleep about 90 minutes after falling asleep. It lasts about 10 minutes. As you sleep, each REM period is longer than the one before, eventually lasting up to an hour.

Night Terrors Night terrors, also called sleep terrors, are a type of parasomnia, classified as an arousal disorder that occurs during non-REM (NREM) sleep. They usually occur during the first 3 to 4 hours of the night. A person experiencing a night terror will suddenly begin to show signs of panic and terror while sleeping, such as screaming, flailing, or kicking. This is usually accompanied by other symptoms like rapid heart rate and breathing, flushing of the skin, sweating, dilation of the pupils, and tenseness of the muscles. Most night terrors last about 10 minutes, but they can continue for 30 to 40 minutes. The patient often falls back into a deep sleep and typically has no memory of the night terror the next morning. The frequency of night terrors can be hard to predict. There is some evidence that night terrors have a genetic component and are more likely to occur in individuals who have a family history of parasomnia, specifically a parent or sibling. Additionally, people who have other sleep disorders like nocturnal asthma, obstructive sleep apnea, restless leg syndrome, or gastroesophageal reflux are increasingly recognized as those with night terrors. Among factors have been shown to trigger night terrors: Fever, sleep deprivation, separation anxiety in children, periods of emotional distress or conflict, disruption of sleep schedules, certain medications, alcohol use and abuse, migraine headaches, and head injuries

THE HEALTH DIARIES DISCOVER THE SIRTFOOD DIET

WHAT IS THE SIRTFOOD DIET ? When it comes to diet and weight loss, there are always new trends that seem to pop up with new regimes of eating and reducing weight, and the Sirtfood Diet is one of the latest. What is it exactly? The principle of sirtfood diet is that it consists of beneficial plant compounds called polyphenols which increase the production of proteins called sirtuins and know for imitating the effects of fasting and exercise. Sirtuins are a group of proteins that regulate several functions in the body including metabolism, inflammation, and lifespan. Certain foods called sirtfoods may cause the body to increase the production of these proteins. Therefore, “sirtfoods” are known as the key to unlocking fat loss and preventing disease. Sirtfood diet is advertised as the revolutionary diet that provided a health plan that works by turning on your “skinny gene.” The diet consists of two phases: The first week of the diet, which is referred to as the hyper-success phase, includes drinking 2-3 green juices and eating up to two meals a day, restricted to 1,000 calories. The next two weeks of the diet are referred to as the maintenance phase, during which it is recommended you consume three meals per day, one green juice, and 1-2 sirtfood bites. Some options of plant foods that contain polyphenols and can be included in sirtfood diets are kale, red wine, strawberries, onions, soy, parsley, extra virgin olive oil, dark chocolate (85% cocoa), matcha green tea, buckwheat, turmeric, medjool dates, walnuts, arugula (rocket), bird’s eye chili, lovage, red chicory, blueberries, capers, coffee. These healthy foods contain natural plant compounds and have health protective properties. So, you may want to integrate them in your meals and snacks once following a sirtfood diet.

OBESITY AND WEIGHT LOSS

Obesity and overweight are major contributors to the global burden of chronic diseases and complications, including cardiovascular diseases, diabetes, and cancer. Overweight and obesity are defined as abnormal or excessive fat accumulation that may impair health. Body mass index (BMI), a simple index of weight-for-height, is commonly used to classify overweight and obesity in adults. It is defined as a person's weight in kilograms divided by the square of his height in meters (kg/m2).

Limitations of using BMI to help diagnose weight types BMI doesn’t differentiate between lean body mass and fat mass. So, a person can have a high BMI - by being muscular - but still have a very low fat mass and vice versa. The BMI hasn’t been adjusted for the increasing average adult height over the years. BMI shouldn’t be use to assess the amount of body fat of athletes and bodybuilders, children and teenagers, pregnant people, people over the age of 65, people who have muscle atrophy (wasting) due to medical conditions. The BMI as a screening tool for assessing the risk of certain health conditions, such as Type 2 diabetes and heart disease, has some limitations: 1) it doesn’t measure the location or distribution of body fat. 2) The relationship between BMI and medical condition often doesn’t account for such factors as family history of diabetes, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease and high cholesterol (Dyslipidemia); or family history of cancer.

Due to these limitations of using BMI, The Canadian Guidelines for Body Weight Classification in Adults came out with the BMI Nomogram to assess obesity and health risk. This classification system is aligned with the World Health Organization’s recommendations. When used, weight classification is only one component of a more comprehensive health assessment needed to clarify health risk in which the body mass index and waist circumference are used together. The Waist circumference is an indicator of health risk associated with excess abdominal fat.

Causes of obesity The balance between calorie intake and energy expenditure determines a person's weight. If a person eats more calories than he or she burns (metabolizes), the person gains weight. If a person eats fewer calories than he or she metabolizes, he or she will lose weight. Therefore, the most common causes of obesity are overeating and physical inactivity. Genetics A person is more likely to develop obesity if one or both parents are obese. Genetics also affect hormones involved in fat regulation. Physical inactivity. Sedentary people burn fewer calories than people who are active.

Medications Medications associated with weight gain include certain antidepressants (medications used in treating depression), anticonvulsants (medications used in controlling seizures), and etc. Psychological factors. For some people, emotions influence eating habits. Many people eat excessively in response to emotions such as boredom, sadness, stress, or anger. Diseases Diseases such as hypothyroidism, insulin resistance, polycystic ovary syndrome, and Cushing's syndrome are also contributors to obesity. Social issues There is a link between social issues and obesity. Lack of money to purchase healthy foods or lack of safe places to walk or exercise can increase the risk of obesity

Management of obesity Options for obesity treatments, include dietary control, regular exercise, lifestyle changes, prescription weight-loss supplements, and surgeries. The ideal treatment for weight loss is appropriate dietary and lifestyle changes plus moderate-intensity exercise. But studies show that it is a great challenge to maintain long-term lifestyle change. Obese patients are easily frustrated during the painful and seemingly endless lifestyle changing progression. Providing ways to accelerate weight loss could inspire patient’s confidence to accomplish their goals and desired lifestyle behavior.

Naturopathy and herbal medicine in obesity Herbs are considered one of the most common alternative therapies for weight loss worldwide. Many studies have investigated the efficacy and safety of medicinal plants in the treatment of obesity, dyslipidemia and diabetes mellitus. The aim of this article is to determine the promising plants were most commonly used to treat obesity. Apple cider vinegar (ACV) Apple cider vinegar is the natural product of fermenting crushed apples. Vinegar has been used as a health tonic for thousands of years for many different ailments. Apple Cider Apple cider vinegar can help manage diabetes, several studies have found that ACV may lower blood sugar levels, curb hunger, make people feel fuller, and boost nutrition. ACV is also rich in B-vitamins and polyphenols, which are antioxidants, and potassium, which keeps your cells working well. ACV kills pathogens and harmful bacteria such as E. coli, staphylococcus aureus, and Candida. It can help manage hormone levels and restore ovary function in women with PCOS Apple Cider Vinegar Dosage and Use: Take 30 grams or more a day of apple cider vinegar. 2-4 tablespoons mixed into water just before a meal to help control blood sugar, 1-2 tablespoons a day in water or as a salad dressing to help with weight loss.

Raspberry ketones Raspberry ketone is a chemical that is found in red raspberries and other fruits. It is believed that raspberry ketone might increase metabolism, increase how quickly the body burns fat, and reduce appetite. People use raspberry ketone for obesity, hair loss, male pattern baldness, and other conditions. Garcinia Cambogia Garcinia cambogia, a tropical fruit also known as the Malabar tamarind, is a popular weight-loss supplement. It is said to block your body's ability to make fat and it puts the brakes on your appetite. How It Works: The active ingredient in the fruit's rind, hydroxycitric acid, or HCA, appears to block an enzyme called citrate lyase, which your body uses to make fat. It also raises levels of the brain chemical serotonin, which may make you feel less hungry. Type 2 Diabetes and High Cholesterol: Some research has found that garcinia cambogia may improve cholesterol levels, lowering triglycerides and LDL (the "bad" cholesterol) and raising HDL (the "good" cholesterol). Dose: There isn't enough reliable information to know what an appropriate dose of garcinia might be. Be sure to follow relevant directions on product labels and consult a healthcare professional before using.

‘Fun and the beautiful game’: rise of women’s recreational football

Asthma: why it can be worse during the summer

The Football Association barred women’s professional football from its club grounds in 1921, deeming it “quite unsuitable” for females. The ban, only lifted in 1971, set the tone for the sexism that still prevails in football today.

Summertime is officially here.

However, more women in England are making up for the decades when they felt shut out of the game.

So, what exactly is asthma and why is it sometimes worse during the summer?

This can mean outdoor sports, backyard barbeques, and family vacations. However, for many people, summer also means more symptoms of asthma.

Experts say if you have asthma, triggers from the environment can make it difficult to breathe. Anyone can have it, but some people may be at higher risk. Read more on Healthline

THE SCIENCE BEHIND LOVE

The phenomenon of falling in love has long been fascinating. Over the years, the feeling has served as the inspiration for innumerable books, songs, poems, and movies. But is true love mystical, enchanted, and cloaked in mystery? Today, it is less mysterious than it was in history.

What does love do to our brains? While experiencing happiness around a loved one or getting butterflies may seem like a cosmic sign from the universe, these experiences are the consequence of your brain engaging in some fascinating activities. Although we frequently consider loving a heart-centered endeavor, it also significantly involves the brain. Yes, a lot happens in your head when you fall in love. Here is what your brain does when you put on those love goggles.

Dopamine is pouring into your brain It can be nice to fall in love. We frequently experience euphoria when we fall in love. This is all about the brain, and it's a real rush. When we fall in love, our bodies flood with feel-good chemicals that trigger particular bodily reactions. Dopamine is one of those "feel-good chemicals," a neurotransmitter created in the brain by the conversion of the amino acid tyrosine into the substance dopa and then into dopamine. While dopamine is constantly there in your body, it is released in a rush when you fall in love, which makes you feel particularly joyful.

Oxytocin levels rise Oxytocin is a powerful hormone with significant impact on love, earning it the moniker "love hormone." This hormone functions as a neurotransmitter and is made in the hypothalamus, a region of the brain. Your brain creates oxytocin and releases dopamine when you feel attracted to someone, which causes a surge of positive emotions.

Vasopressin increased in the brain When you initially fall in love, a surge of chemicals is released, but it passes quickly. According to Psychology Today, once your life with your lover settles into a more regular rhythm after around four years of dating, dopamine levels start to decline. Even though this could make you feel less attracted to your spouse, it doesn't necessarily mean negative things are going to happen to your relationship in the future. When things are going well, the hormones oxytocin and vasopressin replace dopamine and contribute to the growth of your connection.

What does love do to our bodies? The new chemicals you're experiencing when you fall in love might really cause physical changes in your body, such as palpitations and obsessive thoughts. In reality, studies have revealed that when you fall in love, you can anticipate more than just daydreaming and difficulty focusing…

What does love do to our bodies? The new chemicals you're experiencing when you fall in love might really cause physical changes in your body, such as palpitations and obsessive thoughts. In

reality, studies have revealed that when you fall in love, you can anticipate more than just daydreaming and difficulty focusing… Blood flow to the pleasure area of the brain increases when people are in love, according to a study employing MRI. The sensation of "chills down the spine" can result from an increase in cerebral blood flow. When someone is in love, they become attached, and this attachment can cause the release of hormones like oxytocin and vasopressin. Feelings of safety and comfort are produced by these hormones.

Life span is increased Did you know that individuals in fulfilling relationships outlive those who live alone? It has been noted that people who live alone are more likely to experience depression, eat unhealthily, smoke, and drink alcohol. According to scientific studies, women who live alone experience a two-year reduction in life expectancy, compared to a six- to seven-year reduction for men.

Lowers the blood pressure No, what you heard was correct. Blood pressure is lowered by love. According to studies, a warm embrace followed by a 10-minute "love language" chat lowers blood pressure. Oxytocin, the body's relaxing hormone, is responsible for this outcome. Additionally, stable blood pressure can improve diet, personal care, and sleep quality while reducing physical stress.

Lowers cholesterol Love lowers cholesterol, which may seem weird. Happily married couples had lower cholesterol levels and their bodies produced fewer stress hormones, according to research. The healthier eating habits of happy couples have a good impact on cholesterol balance as well. Couples are more likely than singles to continue participating in regular sports. They also considerably cut their fat levels in this method. According to scientific research, there are three stages of love—lust, connection, and attraction—that are generally shared feelings.
