Like the more numerous DB7, it was styled by Ian Callum CBE, Scottishborn automotive stylist whose CV includes vehicles as diverse as the Ford RS200 Group B rally car, the Fiesta-based Puma Coupe and the radical, but supremely elegant, 2009 reboot of Jaguar’s XJ executive saloon. He recently stepped back from his role as Director of Design at Jaguar and founding member of new design and engineering business CALLUM. Its team has revisited the Vanquish because, as he says, “It’s rare designer has the chance to retell the story of one of their own cars. I’ve wanted to do that for some time. This was the perfect opportunity.” The resulting Aston Martin Vanquish 25 by CALLUM has taken 18 months to develop and, crucially, has the blessing of Aston Martin; an endorsement which shows the quality of the finished article because very few projects of this nature are approved by the original manufacturer, but then few are masterminded by the car’s designer... It retains the Vanquish’s silhouette, and on car regularly referred to as the most beautiful Aston of the modern era it would be madness to do otherwise, but benefits from over hundred design changes. The exterior features reprofiled front and rear carbon fibre bumpers that improve aerodynamic fciency, high-intensity LED lights, carbon fibre side strakes and wing mirrors, one-piece carbon window surrounds and bespoke rear difuser with integrated exhaust box, all of which gives the car a new attitude without detracting from the original design.
