hat exactly does a GameChanger look like? Glance around the room tonight and you’ll see hundreds of them, because every one of us who has gathered here to support New Heights is changing the game for inner-city student-athletes. Every dollar raised through the GameChangers Ball is directed towards teaching, training and inspiring young people to realize their limitless potential on and off the court and become leaders in their communities. New Heights’ College Bound program was one of the first in New York City to use basketball to promote academic performance, and today – 13 years later – we remain a leader in this area. Since 2005, every one of our seniors has graduated from high school on time, 98% of them have matriculated to college, and over 75% graduated from college within six years. The majority come from families who struggle to make ends meet, but New Heights levels the playing field to make sure that they have the same opportunities as every other kid. Two people in particular have championed New Heights in a way that raises the bar for all of us, and we are thrilled to honor them tonight for their commitment to our organization and our studentathletes. Mark Patricof and John Osborn’s contributions over the years have impacted the lives and elevated the futures of hundreds of deserving youth, most of whom the odds were stacked against. The entire New Heights family also thanks Mark for over a decade of leadership as a Board member and current Board Chair, which has kept us strong and motivates us to be even stronger. In addition, I would like to thank our event co-chairs, and the New Heights Board and staff for their countless hours making this evening possible. Last but not least, thank you to everyone who is here with us tonight, in person or in spirit. Your friendship and support mean the world to New Heights. With your help, we give hope and opportunity to our student-athletes. Together we can rise to any challenge, and together we will continue to change the game. In thanks,
Ted Smith Executive Director

HONOREES
EMMANUEL ANDUJAR New Heights Class of 2011 Manhattan College Class of 2015
GameChangers Alumni Award Emmanuel (Emmy) Andujar, New Heights class of 2011, exemplifies everything that the program stands for. Raised by a single mother in the Edenwald section of the Bronx, Emmy joined New Heights as an 8th grader and, with the help of the organization’s High School Assist program, attended Rice High School in Manhattan. After a stellar high school career, Emmy earned an athletic scholarship to Manhattan College, where he graduated with a degree in Communications. On the court, Emmy can do it all – he capped off his senior year at Manhattan by finishing in the league’s Top 10 in scoring, rebounding, assists, steals and field goal percentage. The consummate teammate and leader, Emmy led Manhattan to two NCAA Tournament appearances. Since graduating, Emmy has been playing professional basketball in exotic places like Spain, Mexico and Puerto Rico. He also competes for the Puerto Rican National Team. Recently, Emmy co-hosted a Back-To-School clinic and school supply giveaway for the youth of the Edenwald Projects. “Growing up in this neighborhood is not easy. You lose friends and family… and we want to put an end to it,” Andujar said of his event. Over the past year, Emmy has been battling cancer and hopes to resume his professional career in the near future.
