WE ARE BROOKLYN BOUND A COMPREHENSIVE CAMPAIGN TO SUPPORT A NEW HOME FOR NEW HEIGHTS
New Heights New Home New Opportunity
Brooklyn
Dear Friends, Of all the choices we make, perhaps the most important is where we choose to call home. It influences nearly every aspect of our lives. We want our homes to be the right place for our families to grow and be successful, and as the leaders of New Heights Youth, we want the same for the New Heights family. We’ve come a long way since 2005, when we operated our College Bound program out of a cramped, shared office up in Washington Heights. From the Heights to the Bronx to our current space in East Harlem, the organization has grown stronger each step of the way. But our biggest challenge has been finding a permanent home facility – one that fully brings to life our vision for inner-city student-athletes to succeed on the basketball court and in life beyond sports. That’s about to change. New Heights is getting a home court advantage. After years of searching for the right location to physically unite and scale up our athletic and academic programming – which currently is scattered throughout the city and challenged by lack of space – the stars aligned over the historic Bedford Union Armory in Brooklyn. Situated in Crown Heights near several major subway lines and soon featuring three full-sized basketball courts alongside administrative offices, classrooms and computer labs, the Armory is an opportunity to take New Heights to the next level. Bringing together all of our coaches, tutors, staff and volunteers under one roof will transform the way we work – and elevate our sports-based college readiness programming to new heights of efficacy. Brand new communitybased initiatives will also be launched, extending our resources and reach to thousands of local children and families. We couldn’t be more excited to be the Armory’s anchor community tenant and ensure that our legacy of positive youth development endures for future generations. This is also an opportunity for you to join us and champion our efforts to transform the Bedford Union Armory into a permanent home for New Heights – one that gives underserved youth every advantage they need to thrive on the court, in the classroom and in their communities. In appreciation,
Ted Smith Executive Director

Who We Serve Mission
What We Do Vision New Heights uses basketball to engage youth in high quality educational and leadership programming that prepares them for high school, college and life beyond sports.
To educate and empower promising inner-city youth to be leaders, champions and student-athletes by developing the skills necessary for success in high school, college and life.
New Heights serves boys and girls, ages 9-21, from socio-economically disadvantaged communities throughout New York City who have a passion for basketball.
All young athletes will have the values and skills necessary to become leaders in their communities and succeed in life beyond sports.
Bringing Services to Crown Heights Easily accessible by public transportation, the Bedford Union Armory is being transformed into a state-of-the-art recreation center and resource for the children and families of Crown Heights, Brooklyn and beyond. New Heights is excited to be the anchor tenant and lead provider of basketball and academic programming, and to work alongside other athletic and educational programs to strengthen the community.
Big Dreams
Taking New Heights to the Next Level Bringing together all of our coaches, tutors, staff and volunteers under one roof will transform and elevate the way we work, and allow New Heights to expand programming to reach wider audiences. With our new home, we will grow our community from 250 youth served to over 3,000 youth annually.
• Expanded Programming • Elevated Service Delivery • Increased Efficiencies and Impact

Big Dreams Basketball can be more than a pastime for inner-city youth, it can be a pathway to their dreams. But time on the court competes with time in the classroom, and can leave young people unprepared for the realities of life after high school. New Heights motivates student-athletes to study as hard as they play so that they can achieve success off the court as adults.
Big Impact
Score cards and report cards are only half of the story. Our approach is holistic, and our program builds leadership and life skills, character and confidence. College and career readiness is the priority – and our track record of success is strong.

“I joined New Heights when I was in seventh grade. Back then when I was growing up, there were a bunch of programs that were all about basketball, and the difference between New Heights and the other programs was that New Heights offered academic programs as well as just basketball itself. My mom loved that about New Heights, and that’s what I think the young people in the program today should know makes New Heights incredibly special. I was the Sports and Fitness Director at Madison Square Boys and Girls Club in Harlem and now I am an Assistant Coach at Wagner College. I’m building relationships the same way that coaches built relationships with me at New Heights. I’m taking on the mentor role that was provided to me. I’m giving back because, like the people at New Heights who made such a difference in my life, I just want to set a good example for the next person coming up.”
