MESSAGES

DAVE VOTH Chairman, Challenge Philippines Leverage Sports Asia

Mabuhay! It is my pleasure and honor to welcome you to the 2nd edition of the Challenge Philippines in Subic and Bataan! A year ago, on February 22, the first Challenge Philippines Triathlon in Subic Bay and Bataan was held. Over 729 athletes from 38 countries attended. Our athletes came from every walk of life from farmer to student, to doctor to teacher and even a prince! We had the richest prize purse in Asia, which attracted over 25 of the world’s fastest Pros. Our television broadcast showcasing Pros and Age Groupers was distributed to over 82 global markets. Many who competed, even Chris “Macca” McCormack, proclaimed the course to be, perhaps the “toughest half iron distance in the world!” Tough as it was, the course delivered an old school charm of what triathlon has always been about; Challenging Conditions, Fun, Family, Friends, Courage, Support of Each Other, Success and ultimately for some, Success in the Face of Adversity. For all who participated, it was a taste of what Challenge is all about. We are about inclusion, not threats or excluding; we support sport development and encourage participation in all events, not just our Challenge brand, but other events too. We are not bean counters or venture capitalists, Our team is made up of athletes, friends and family. We love the sport, just like you and we are very proud to call each of you Family! With the global recognition and success of our first Challenge Philippines event in Subic Bay and Bataan, several great things happened; 1. We were able to expand a great relationship with a very special partner, Yellow Cab Pizza, who has now become our New Title partner for all Challenge Events! They are Family! Make sure to get a slice on the Run! 2. We were also granted a huge opportunity to expand our Challenge Brand and now have a great new event in Camsur, “Where It All Began!”, The Challenge Camsur on June 21, 2015!

MESSAGES 3. We have launched the Tri Challenge Grass Roots & Multi Sport Development Programs. Challenge and Leverage Sports Asia will target, underwrite and support 25 Grass Root Teams in provinces and cities across the Philippines. The Tri Challenge Foot Print reaches out to around a thousand potential athletes who may have never had a chance. This is part of our Corporate Sport Responsibility CSR, program. 4. We celebrate New Partnerships with Best in Class Partners. This event is only possible because they support us, so we can support you! Thank you for remembering and supporting them when you purchase! Check out our Sponsor Page and links to great offers, just for you. No event, especially a Challenge event, is ever the result of one person or group; it is always a collaborative effort by many, One Team, One Family, and Focused Effort to deliver the best race day experiences. We are forever grateful to our stakeholders, our supportive and caring volunteers, our Challenge Philippines Staff and our Best in Class Commercial Partners and Family. Our special thanks and gratitude for all the support from Governor A. Garcia, the Honorable Governor of Bataan and Chairman Garcia of Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority. Without their vision and kind support, we could never have delivered this event. To our Race Headquarters and Official Venue Partner Camayan Beach Resort, Ocean Adventure & Adventure Beach, Subic Bay Marine Exploratorium Inc. ( SBMEI), thank you for your support to Challenge and our year round portfolio of Active Lifestyle events. You guys are truly a World Class Destination with wonderful Family Values. Thank you! Have a great race, be safe, push your self, have fun and share your passion with everyone! See you at the finish line! You are Family!

JUMBO TAYAG Race Director, Challenge Philippines Leverage Sports Asia

MESSAGES Hello all! CHALLENGE PHILIPPINES Subic and Bataan welcomes you to our second year. Last year, I joined Challenge Philippines as an athlete and also experienced what “TOUGH” was all about. As a multiple finisher of half and full distance races here and abroad, I bring the athlete perspective along with the expertise and guidance my race committee provides, to give you a race experience like no other. No matter how tough the course maybe, remember the process you went through before you toed the starting line. I know you worked hard so enjoy each moment. The race is a celebration of what you have achieved in your training. CHALLENGE PHILIPPINES 2015 will be one iconic race. It wouldn’t be possible without the tremendous support from our generous sponsors and hardworking staff and crew. Camayan Beach Resort, our official host venue, and the province of Bataan and Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) made all the stops to make this a grand, fun, and safe race for all. After the race, expect an epic post race party at the Lighthouse featuring Chef Claude Tayag who will whip up some authentic Pinoy food! Welcome to Challenge Family and see you at the finish line!

MESSAGES

ALBERT S. GARCIA Governor of Bataan

ROBERTO V. GARCIA Chairman and Administrator Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority

Warm greetings from Bataan! I take great pleasure and honor in extending my congratulations to the CHALLENGE PHILIPPINES Family on its second year of conquering the hearts and minds of Filipino triathletes. This is a fitting time to acknowledge the selfless efforts of the men and women behind this endeavor who worked hard to offer the chance to experience a race of a lifetime not only to Filipinos but to triathletes all over the world as well. Rest assured that the people of Bataan are with you as you continue to challenge us all to race hard and beat our personal best in triathlon.

To the organizers, participants, officials, and sponsors of CHALLENGE PHILIPPINES, our warmest welcome to Subic Bay! As part of the fast-growing Challenge global series of triathlons, CHALLENGE PHILIPPINES promises a spectacular course in the scenic Subic Bay. In turn, the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) commits its full support in ensuring the success of this prestigious triathlon series that has seen action in at least 19 countries. The staging of this much-celebrated international sporting event further validates the increasing popularity and prestige of Subic Bay as the triathlon capital of Luzon, if not, of the entire Philippines. And why not? Subic Bay is a showcase of nature’s best with its ideal mix of sun, sand, and sea, winding courses, and rough terrains. There are also great man-made infrastructures and tourist amenities. SBMA is also known for its solid reputation for safety and security. Thus, the SBMA is proud and happy to note that Subic Bay is now included among the iconic and stunning locations around the world where Challenge has already been held. We are deeply honored that Subic Bay was chosen as the triathlon destination of CHALLENGE PHILIPPINES Mabuhay and best wishes to all!

5 MUST DO’S

A lot of surprises await first time visitors and even locals whocan’t get enough of this paradise. Exciting activities, gastronomical pleasures, and breathtaking vistas thrive in Bataan.

1

VISIT THE SHRINE OF VALOR (DAMBANA NG KAGITINGAN) ATOP MT. SAMAT IN DIWA, PILAR. The Shrine of Valor, locally known as Mt. Samat, is the Sentinel of Bataan. It is in memory of the heroic stand and sacrifices of Filipinos and Americans who fought during World War II. Why not give time to know our country’s history that made Bataan recognized in the whole world?

2

BE WITH NATURE TO WITNESS GOD’S BLESSINGS BY SIGHTSEEING, MOUNTAIN BIKING, TREKKING, SWIMMING, WATCHING MIGRATORY BIRDS, AND BE PART OF THE ADVOCY TO HELP AND SAVE MARINE TURTLES. Bataan is really a proof of

God’s wonders from the seas to the land and up to the mountains. Indeed, it satisfies not only historians but all walks of life, especially nature lovers.

3

IMMERSE IN THE CULTURE AND TRADITION OF BATAAN. What makes this province unique is its culture and tradition. Why don’t you visit the different Aeta communities, century old churches, and the former site of the Philippine Refugee Center? Yes, our ancestors are Aetas, we were ruled earlier by the Dominican missionaries, we helped the Vietnamese, Cambodians and Laos and they even left their landmarks and cuisines in the province and now, we are

tagged as, “One Bataan, One for BATAAN”.

4

TASTE THE GASTRONOMICAL LOCAL FOOD PRODUCTS AND GRASP EXPORT QUALITY HANDICRAFTS. Bataan is not just home of the First Economic Zone in the Philippines but the locals also produce export quality handicrafts such as walis lasa, capiz, handbeaded and hand painted bags and food products

like tinapa (smoked fish), bagoong (sautéed shrimp), araro cookies, cashew nuts and even coffee beans which are all branded as “galing Bataan”.

5

MINGLE WITH THE HOSPITABLE LOCALS OF THE PROVINCE Lastly, what makes a trip memorable is the warmth and willingness of the locals to share everything about Bataan.

SUBIC Experience bonding with nature at its finest in Subic. Breathe fresh air, mingle with animals, and rest your eyes on lush evergreens. Driving for two to three hours from Manila is definitely worth it. cies of bats. In SBFZ, you’ll find tens of thousands of Philippine giant fruit bats and a small roost of the golden-crowned flying foxes. Look up, we’re sure you’ll find them flying around.

1

MONKEYS, OH MONKEYS The monkeys in Subic Bay Freeport Zone are gregarious creatures. They are probably the most sociable of their kind and you’ll literally find them hanging around and causing a ruckus on the road to Ocean

Adventure. They’ll even sit by your window and wait for some food. Known as the Philippine long-tailed macaque, it is an endagered species. GOING BATTY The Philippines has an estimated 74 spe-

EXPLORE THE REEF Olive Ridley’s and Angel fishes are everyday sights at Miracle and Camayan Beach. Camayan beach is your gateway to four different reef dives and nine shipwrecks. Just a few feet from the shore and
