Last February 2014, Ironman Asia Pacific and Swim Bike Run partnered and gave away a FREE Ironman 70.3 Putrajaya relay slot. Here’s what the winning team, Team O-Run-Utan, had to say.
SWIM: FRANCES NGU Having hardly trained for the event and
having recently recovered from acute tonsillitis, I’m very pleased with my finishing time. It was nerve-racking waiting for my race to start. Going through the crowd of swimmers was not fun at all! Experiencing the event gave me a real adrenaline rush. I am now inspired to enter the half Ironman 70.3 individual event next year. I want to cross that finishing line and hear my name being called!
L-R: Frances Ngu, Alex Liew and Hobart Kho
BIKE: ALEX LIEW I didn’t have much time to train due to work and
travel commitments. However, I finished the course in three hours and 15 minutes, well ahead of my expected finish time! The several crashes at the tunnel was terrifying as one of the crash victims fell in front of me. If given a less intense work schedule, I would have trained harder to get a sub three hour time.
RUN: HOBART KHO I have completed an array of races and if these events have taught me anything, it’s that it’s always important to be humble and respect the distance. Running at noon was a challenge as the heat wore me down. The finish line was what made the race monumental for me. The amazing cheers from the crowd and an impressive recovery station were unforgettable. The Ironman 70.3 Putrajaya gave me a good taste of what to expect, and its lingering aftertaste encourages me to want to finish one before my legs give up on me.
