Sketchbook Explorations: Watercolor Backgrounds and Line Drawing | Fine artist & illustrator Lisa Congdon
What inspires you? I’m inspired by a lot of musical artists like The Beatles and Nirvana.
Getting started in a new sketchbook can be the biggest hurdle in the creative process. In this introductory class, Lisa shares tips for selecting a sketchbook that is just right for you. She also shares techniques for watercolor paints and how to draw over the paint with Micron pens, similar to Brianna’s art!
Do you have any habits and routines when you create? I have more bad habits than good. I always paint on my bed with dim lighting. When I’m comfortable, I create better.
Do you keep a sketchbook? I only used a sketchbook for school. I just work on one big project rather than doodle.
Concept Sketchbook: A Daily Practice | Artist & illustrator Lindsay Stripling Explore a new medium each week including pencil, ink, colored pencil and oil crayons. Add words and details to bring balance to the page, and finish up the month with techniques to turn your sketchbook spreads into even more projects and paintings.
Do you have favorite themes? My obvious theme is music!
What is the best piece of advice you’ve been given? “If you’re ever given the chance, take it.”
Words Inform Images: 31 Prompts Using Writing as Inspiration for Art | Digital & handmade artist e bond
See Brianna’s art in the Artist of the Month case in the Teen Scene! Want to be showcased? Apply at newlenoxlibrary.org/teens or visit the Library for an application.
A picture is worth a thousand words but words themselves are priceless. In this unique daily practice, multimedia artist and educator e bond shares some of her favorite fiction, non-fiction, poetry and music to generate play and experimentation. Fuel your visual art through collage, mark-making, and doodling.

Friends of the Gamelan, affectionately known as FROG, traces its roots to the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1893, held in Chicago. One of the many exotic attractions on the Midway Plaisance was the Java Village, complete with a Sundanese gamelan. Chicago’s Field Museum of Natural History was founded to preserve, catalog, and exhibit the many cultural treasures from the Exposition, including the gamelan. In the late 1970s, a group began to meet regularly at the Field Museum to play on those very instruments. FROG was formed in 1980 as a notfor-profit educational organization with the purpose of purchasing a Javanese gamelan for pedagogy and performance, to continue the work begun at the Field Museum. Alex Yoffe is a Javanese gamelan musician and teacher. After completing his degree in music composition at the CCPA, he went on to the concentrated study of Central Javanese gamelan, having been awarded a scholarship—fully funded by the Indonesian government— at the Indonesian Institute of the Arts in Surakarta (ISI Surakarta). Yoffe has performed with and taught many gamelans across the US, including Gamelan Laras Tentrem (Boston), Gamelan Kusuma Laras (NYC), Gamelan Sari Raras Irama (Buffalo, NY), as well as at numerous universities and colleges. He has also performed with many groups and renowned musicians in Java, Indonesia. 120 Veterans Parkway, New Lenox, Illinois 60451
