idely used for a variety of laboratory and industrial applications in southern Africa over the last four decades, the Labotec EcoTherm Oven and IncoTherm Incubator range offers high quality materials, reliability and ease-of-use. This range of locally manufactured ovens and incubators from Labotec enable you to make the most costeffective choice, with peace of mind that the units have stood the test of time. Visually, you will notice a stainless steel outer body with a powder coated outer door and control panel with a recent ergonomic design change to both the door and control panel. For better ease of use there is a new slam lock door handle and improved door hinge that prevents the door from opening into the body. Labotec’s EcoTherm ovens will operate in the temperature range of ambient +7°C to 250°C with a choice of

seven different capacities, ideal for drying processes, ageing, curing and general investigations. The Labotec IncoTherm incubators are ideal for use in microbiology and related fields, will operate at temperatures ambient +7°C to 110°C also with a choice of six capacities. All Labotec ovens are supplied with a forced draught airflow system. They utilise a maintenance-free fan and motor with homogenous temperature distribution and faster drying times that contributes to their sought-after benefits translating into good value for money.

irsam Scientific & Precision Equipment supplies the Snol range of laboratory furnaces. Snol has been producing thermal processing equipment since 1960. The company designs and manufactures laboratory and industrial electric furnaces and ovens, as well as hightemperature thermal insulation materials. The company pays particular attention to product development by using advanced technologies and scientific progress in order to meet individual user needs. Snol products comply with European Union Directives and bear the CE mark. Snol products are equipped with highprecision digital microprocessor Omron or Eurotherm temperature controllers fitted with self-tuning and manual PID settings. Temperature measurement is supported by thermocouples. The customer can select a basic or programmable temperature controller with up to 32 programming segments (rate of temperature rise or decrease control, maintenance of pre-set temperature, automatic shutdown). Data recorder Eurotherm 6100 E is ideal for basic visualisation and recording requirements. Snol 12 V.1 is a computer software for data recording, viewing and configuring the temperature controller

running your thermal treatment process. The software is designed for the Windows operating system. Computer software allows it to simply run, review and display charts on thermal process temperatures and other settings.

Benefits of automatic titration

M

any laboratories are still using manual titration to perform their routine analysis. However, glass burettes are delicate to handle, volumes are difficult to read, and exposure to hazardous liquids pose a threat to the user’s health. A short video describes and explains these and other reasons why laboratories should switch from manual titration to using an automatic system with a digital burette and a potentiometric end point detection. As titration is one of the oldest methods of chemical analysis, many standards still describe manual titration methods. As such, older standard methods are being modernised for many applications and users should consider switching to automatic titration. Here are the key reasons described in the video: • The burette is filled and emptied at the touch of a button • Modern titration systems provide step by step guidance on how to prepare the titration • Digital titrators provide for more reliable and reproducible endpoint evaluation • The complete analysis is documented according to GLP requirements • The user is protected from direct exposure to hazardous chemicals.

The video can be watched on the Metrohm YouTube channel and the link is: https://bit.ly/2NuMUNU. In addition to automating manual titrations, Metrohm also has a wide range of auto-samplers which allow the user to load a rack with multiple samples. The system then performs the titrations fully automatically, including rinsing of the electrode between samples.
