‘Tools you can trust’ moves to a new home

Qualitools has moved to bigger and better premises and gives its clients the assurance that it will continue the tradition of delivering quality products and service to the hardware and related industries.

The new Qualitools home located in the N4 Industrial Park in Pretoria East.

synergies will be realised across the bigger group by centralising the business locations. Also, Qualitools have aspirations to grow the business to the true market potential of the southern African Region. The new warehouse is state-ofthe-art compared to the previous environment, and allows for business and warehouse optimisation on several fronts – the N4 Industrial Park is next to the east, west and close to the N1 primary road networks. The move was planned and completed over a three month period in order to ensure minimal disruption to trading and to conduct business as usual. General manager, Stefan

It’s a

proposition So what does it mean? It means everyone in the transaction wins and yes, it really is possible!

Let’s explain... Firstly, we have a great range

We have 33 years’ experience and over time have crafted a nifty range of pre-packed fasteners that cater for the unique needs of Southern Africa. Our range is comprehensive and include 1 943 SKUs. We take a scientific approach to packaging and pack quantities in order to satisfy everyone from the small DIY’er to the large contractor. We are a one-stop shop, making procurement a breeze, saving you time, money and lots of effort.

Good looking, clever and quite popular

We have attractive header boards with HOW-TO product information. The stands are grouped by category and are colour coded so that customers can help themselves – saving your sales people valuable time. EUREKA is a well-known and trusted brand.

Services included

Shelving is supplied free of charge and we can even price the stock for you in the form of on-the-shelf labels. We professionally assist with procurement, sales history and our sales representatives do stock counts when re-ordering. Your stock is delivered on uniquely designed delivery frames for quick, accurate and easy check-in. In addition, you don’t need to worry about merchandising as this is done by the driver when we deliver. We deliver nationwide to more than 2000 customers across Southern Africa using state-of-the-art tracking and distribution systems. All these services help you and your salespeople to have more time available with your customer Everyone wins...

Give me more SPACE!

We understand that floor space is valuable, expensive and limited and therefore must be used optimally. We are masters at optimising floor space and on average get 110 SKUs per running meter, depending on your shelf height. How’s that for packing a punch! This means a great return on space used and it means more choice for your customer.

A win-win for everyone!

More than the [bag] you see on the shelf The Magic that happens in the background...

We are logistic experts and use advanced information technologies for seamless integration between processes We practice responsible procurement, keeping enough stock (and safety stock) in our warehouse to ensure you get what you order. Our average fill rate for the last 3 years is 99%, meaning you don’t need to place back-orders. We have quality controls at all major points in the process, from sourcing to placing orders up to delivery.

BUT how can you do all of this and still be affordable?

Easiest way to explain this is that the whole is bigger than sum of its parts. When there is synergy between systems and business units including Economies of Scale, it is possible that 1 + 1 + 1 = 5.

NEWS ORAL AGREEMENTS

Minefield of risk in oral agreements

Oral agreements for building work are, theoretically legal, but frequently cause enormous problems, says Uwe Putlitz, CEO of the Joint Building Contracts Committee (JBCC). are to define the scope of work and to provide a specification of the quality of work to be provided as part of the construction information (approved by the local authority) for the builder to work from, and also to make payments at regular intervals.” Putlitz says the building works must be insured – preferably by the employer – with the owner as the beneficiary in the event of a claim. A signed contract is always preferable to oral agreements when it comes to building or any other kind of project, says the JBCC.

NEWS AWARDS

Strong contenders vie for student award

Corobrik’s thirty-first year of sponsorship of the Corobrik Architectural Student of the Year Award took place in Johannesburg on the 18th of April. THIS YEAR’S ENTRIES were outstanding, according to Dirk Meyer, Corobrik’s MD. “Finalists incorporated sustainable architecture with innovation, technology and creative building design in their entries.” This is the 31st year the awards were held and sponsored by Corobrik. This annual competition enables Corobrik to recognise the shining lights on the architectural map of the future. Top students from eight major universities were identified based on their final theses and presented with awards throughout the year. Each of the regional winners were judged top of their tertiary institution and competed against each other at the Hilton Hotel in Sandton, Johannesburg. The winner won R50 000.

which in return presents a number of opportunities both locally within and outside of Delft. In this regard, the dissertation explores how these building-related craft traditions can be supported, through the design of a vocational training urban campus in Delft. Thus far, building work has been executed within Delft in an ad hoc manner, and good building work remains unappreciated. The dissertation attempts to construct an institutional campus informed by the local vernacular that aids the creation of a positive public realm and contributes to civic engagement.

FEATURE PAINT ROLLER

Choosing a paint roller Like most things, a particular application requires a specific paint roller. Here’s a look at different paint rollers and where they should be used.

MINI FOAM

Foam rollers are ideal if you want to paint smaller wooden and metal items and you require a

MOHAIR If it is a smooth surface you require, then you need to use a Mohair roller. Mohair rollers have a short pile and thus work best on flat surfaces such as plastered walls where you need to achieve an ultra-smooth finish.

SHEEPSKIN ROLLER Because sheepskin rollers have an extra-long pile they are suitable for use on heavily textured or exterior surfaces. The 100% pure sheepskin roller is perfect for painting water based paints onto exterior surfaces. The wool makes for a superior roller and the extra-long pile allows for high loading and coverage capacity.

smooth surface. These foam rollers can be used with water based and enamel paints. They are durable, easy to clean and refills are cheap.

68

FEATURE PAINT ROLLER MEDIUM SURFACES For painting surfaces which are not smooth use an all-purpose roller. It has a medium length pile and can be used to apply water based paint to walls and ceilings

ALUMINIUM Aluminium or paddle rollers are not used for applying paint to surfaces, but for working with fibreglass. They are used to laminate moulds and to ensure all the air is released from the chopped strand mat.

CORRUGATED Painting a house roof is already difficult enough and having to paint a corrugated roof takes difficulty to a whole new level. Do not despair because there is a paint roller specifically designed for this task and it is called a corrugated roller. The roller is shaped in a corrugated form which allows the user to easily apply paint to the corrugated roof because the roller fits onto the corrugated sheets. They also have a long pile to allow for high coverage capacity. To make the task even easier, look for a corrugated roller with a long handle that will allow you to stand upright while applying to paint to the roof, thus preventing the user from having to bend all the time.

TEXTURED To apply textured paint onto walls or if you are after a ripple finish, the roller you need to buy is a textured foam roller. They are also used if you want to be creative and give a wall an artistic feel. They are also easy to identify as the roller has a rough finish and it looks like it is full of holes.
