20 YEARS IN SA AND COUNTING FOR VEOLIA WATER TECHNOLOGIES Veolia Water Technologies celebrates 20 years of business in South Africa this year. Launching in 1999 as Vivendi Water with a complement of 80 people, today Veolia South Africa employs over 700 people, making it one of the continent’s largest water treatment specialist organisations, all working towards realising the company’s Ambitions for Africa. From a strong initial focus on design and build projects – with an impressive portfolio of projects that includes the Ambatovy Mine crystallisation plant in Madagascar; the 15 ML/day Mossel Bay desalination plant; and the 55 ML/ day Lower Thukela potable water treatment plant – today Veolia is a total water treatment partner to municipalities and industry. These include packaged plants (now branded Water Techno Packages), operations and maintenance and the supply of chemicals and spares. Supplied since 2005 initially as made-to-order, customised plants, Veolia now supplies these plants as standard, off-the-shelf solutions. The benefit is even greater fabrication speed, with complete Factory Acceptance Tested plants being produced in 10 to 12 weeks according to ISO 9001 quality standards.
6
Another key growth area is in the increasing demand for operations and maintenance services, as companies seek to rationalise costs and improve overall efficiency and profitability of their water cycle. In one of the largest municipal contracts of its kind, Veolia recently began an operations contract for the management of a number of plants and over 100 km of potable and sewerage infrastructure for the Overstrand Municipality in the western Cape. In the water treatment chemicals market, Veolia has increased production from 80 to 350 tpm of its Hydrex range of chemical, courtesy of the company’s new 6 600 m2 production facility in Pomona that opened in 2018. Expanded production capabilities have led to shorter lead times for orders, and, as the primary chemical manufacturing hub for the entire continent, the facility services plants all over South Africa, as well as in Botswana, Namibia, Angola, Mozambique, Kenya and Ghana. Recent geographic expansion has also established the company’s presence in North Africa and the Middle East through contracts in Morocco and Qatar. Veolia is constantly innovating and introducing new tested technologies to market, and this year, it introduces its AquaVista digital platform to African markets.

SIKA HEAD OFFICE GETS A REVAMP
Sika’s newly revamped reception area at its head office In order to maintain its professional corporate image, Sika South Africa undertook a refurbishment project in the company’s head office reception area, which included structural and aesthetic upgrades to the walls and flooring. Sika South Africa’s head office is located in Westmead, Pinetown, and is renowned for supplying specialty chemicals to the building and automotive industries. Since flooring is one of Sika’s areas of expertise, they were in the perfect position to use their very own acclaimed flooring solutions and skilled in-house technical experts for the upgrade of the head office reception area. A challenge that was easily overcome with careful thought and preparation, was the high volume of foot traffic that would still need to pass through the central reception area to access their respective offices whilst the renovation process was underway. The initial phase of the project began in October 2018, when Sika’s specialised flooring products were specified by Sika’s very own floor expert, Mark Griesel. The overall goal was for the floor to have an attractive and clean decorative finish, which is precisely what was accomplished. Despite minor challenges, Sika’s high quality products enabled this project to be a showpiece for their special range of decorative flooring systems.

LEDLENSER PRESENTS NEW FLAGSHIP MH11 WITH APP CONTROL Ledlenser supplements its outdoor series and introduces a new flagship with the MH11, which for the first time will be controlled using the Ledlenser Connect app. The headlamp is positioned at the high end of the product range and, thanks to the app, offers a whole gamut of new functions. These include the ability to set up individual profiles as well as functions such as timer, interval and SOS distress signal. With up to 1000 lumen in Boost mode and 750 lumen in Power mode, the Ledlenser M11 provides considerable light intensity. An RGB LED also provides light in red, green or blue making the MH11 an individual all-round talent capable of satisfying the highest demands. The MH11 is the first fully customisable headlamp made by the Solingenbased light specialist Ledlenser. With the Ledlenser Connect app, the user has a range of new functions at his or her disposal. Users can add up to six functions of the lamp to their individual profiles which, after transfer from the app to the lamp, can be selected at the touch of a button. Up to six profiles can be set up fixing light intensity, light colour as well as additional functions such as Optisense. Users therefore have the opportunity to move between fixed settings depending on activity. The timer function has been redeveloped by
Ledlenser and represents a milestone in the use of headlamps. Using Ledlenser Connect, time intervals can be pre-set in which the light is switched on and off. Customisable setting options such as slow-dim mean the MH11 can also replace the alarm clock, gently waking up the user with a gradually increasing intensity of light. Users who like to read before bed can use the function to turn the light off after a certain time - ideal for battery-saving use when camping. The app can also be used to define time intervals indicated by the MH11 by blinking. The function can be used for interval training using light signals or for indicating the lapse of a defined time period.
The SOS distress signal provides support in emergencies and is made through the lamp after activation in the app. The internationally recognised light signal indicates the need for help and assistance - only few people know the right light sequence. Alongside the new features, MH11 also includes the established core technologies for which Ledlenser lamps have become known. The lens - as in various Ledlenser headlamps - can be smoothly focused and can therefore be adjusted for various uses. The Optisense technology recognises ambient lighting and adjusts the light intensity of the MH11 accordingly in order to avoid glare and dazzling. For even greater flexibility, the headlamp is easily detachable and can be used as a hand-held flashlight. Use of the headband allows the lamp to be elevated as required. In Power mode, the MH11 produces a light intensity of 750 lumen with a range of up to 300m with a battery lifetime of over four hours. With a light intensity of 300 lumen and range of 200m, the battery has sufficient power for eight hours, in the Low Power mode, the battery even lasts 100 hours. The Power Boost mode is intended for short-term use. In this mode, the lamp operates at an intensity of 1000 lumen.

NEWS BUILDING SUSTAINABILITY THROUGH LOCAL MANUFACTURING There is enormous potential for southern African manufacturers to increase their market share both locally and internationally. The driving force behind capturing this growth opportunity is the South African Capital Equipment Export Council (SACEEC). According to Eric Bruggeman, CEO at SACEEC, part of the Council’s mandate is to organise outward selling and inward buying missions. ‘We identified a need to showcase the offerings of the SADC region’s local manufacturers in an interactive manner. The result is the inaugural Local Southern African Manufacturing Expo (LME) being held at the Expo Centre, Nasrec from 21 to 23 May 2019.’ ‘Endorsed by the premier of Gauteng, David Makhura, we believe the exhibition will enable exhibitors to meet with top decision makers from the inward buying missions already committed to the event. As Industry 4.0 continues to transform the way that manufacturers do business, LME 2019 will provide them with an opportunity to grow their customer base, with the knock-on potential for fostering job creation,’ says Charlene Hefer, portfolio director for Specialised Exhibitions Montgomery. ‘It is critical for the sustainability of local manufacturing operations that they aggressively pursue opportunities to increase their market share. Not only is this relevant to their increased permeation of the overseas market, but furthermore, they need to capture market share that is currently being monopolised by importers. Recent statistics indicate that South Africa currently imports products to the value of a staggering $83.2-billion. If we were able to shift this demand to the local manufacturing sector, we could realistically create 1.329-million jobs,’ says Bruggeman. LME 2019 will give local manufacturers from South Africa and other SADC regions a chance to not only display their capabilities and capacities to a captive audience, but furthermore it creates a forum for the exhibitors to network with their peers. ‘We are excited about the prospect that local manufacturing operations have to evolve and expand by interacting with the inward buying mission representatives. Added to this are the benefits derived by the support of SACEEC, together with AREI (Association of Representatives for the Electronics Industry) and the dti (Department of Trade & Industry). We urge local manufacturing companies throughout southern Africa to capitalise on the unique marketing opportunities of exhibiting at LME 2019,’ says Hefer.

AN EFFICIENT LINK TO NEW MINING AREAS The RopeCon system, which transports platinum ore from Booysendal South to the existing processing plant, has recently gone into operation. The South African mining company Booysendal Platinum, a subsidiary of Northam Platinum Limited, is relying on technology by Doppelmayr for its expansion project at the Booysendal concession. Every hour, at least 909 tons of material will be transported over a distance of approx. 4.8km through hilly terrain. The terrain between the new mining areas to the north of the Booysendal concession and the existing processing plant is challenging in terms of topography. In a straight line, a distance of approximately 4.8km and a difference in elevation of 530m must be covered. For the expansion of the Booysendal mine, a cost-effective, reliable and safe means of transport was required, and Booysendal Platinum opted for a RopeCon system to tackle the challenge of transporting 909 tons of platinum ore. RopeCon is a technology developed by the ropeway manufacturer Doppelmayr. The system offers the advantages of a ropeway and combines them with the properties of a conventional belt conveyor. It essentially consists of a flat belt with corrugated side walls. Just as on conventional belt conveyors, the belt performs the haulage function. It is driven and deflected by a drum in the head or tail station and fixed to axles arranged at regular intervals to carry it. The axles are fitted with plastic running wheels, which run on fixed anchored track ropes and guide the belt. The track ropes are elevated off the ground on tower structures. The material mined at Booysendal South is loaded onto the RopeCon belt via a silo and two chutes. In the vicinity of the processing plant, the RopeCon is linked to the existing conveying equipment. A switch chute allows for the material either to be transferred directly onto a feeder conveyor to take it to the processing plant, or to be discharged onto a stockpile via a second, smaller RopeCon thus creating a temporary puffer. Booysendal was also particularly careful to choose a transport system that would minimise the environmental footprint of the mine. Because RopeCon is guided over towers, the only space required on the ground is for these structures, which, in the case of Booysendal, amount to no more than 12. The track crosses a number of roads, and even wildlife can roam freely underneath the RopeCon.

BOSCH PROJECTS LEADS THE WAY IN ADVANCING SUGAR TECHNOLOGY Bosch Projects - with over 55 years experience in the sugar sector - offers a comprehensive service globally, which encompasses strategic planning and feasibility studies, sugar technology development, project structuring and funding, as well as plant design and engineering, project delivery, operational support and training. Bosch Projects designs and supplies a full range of sugar processing equipment, from front-end cane preparation and juice extraction, through to sugar production. ‘The company has recently developed the Lamella Clarifier, which utilises a series of inclined plates for fast, effective particle separation and settling,’ explains Steve Rosettenstein, sector director: Sugar, Bosch Projects. ‘Our research and development department, which is constantly improving efficiencies of existing equipment and developing
new systems, has developed the Lamella Clarifier especially for the sugar industry, to satisfy a demand for short retention clarification. ‘Although various lamella clarifier systems are well-established in water treatment applications, this technology is new in sugar processing and is especially effective for juice, syrup and refinery phosphation clarification. The Bosch Projects system is much smaller than conventional clarifiers and substantially reduces liquor retention times.’ The design of this new settling Lamella Clarifier reduces the size and footprint of
The unclarified juice inlet arrangement into the clarifier
conventional juice clarifiers by approximately 30 percent, significantly lowering capital investment costs. Important features include short residence times, reduced sucrose degradation and improved turbidity removal. This highly efficient system, which operates with no moving parts, requires minimal maintenance. The syrup clarifier is similar in design to the juice version, except that it operates as a flotation clarifier, as opposed to settling. This unit is particularly attractive for clients who require improved sugar quality, with a lower investment cost. The syrup lamella clarifier can be switched on and off as desired when syrup qualities are low and it can be easily installed inside an existing factory, due to its relatively small size, in comparison with a conventional syrup clarifier. It has all the other advantages of its juice counterpart.
INDUSTROCLEAN REGAINS INDEPENDENCE The industrial cleaning industry will take on a more familiar hue with the announcement that Nilfisk SA has sold the business to the company’s local management. The result of this deal is that the company has assumed its original name, Industroclean. ‘We’re extremely excited to announce our business is returning to its South African roots following the decision by the Danish group to refocus its operations,’ says Emma Corder, managing director of Industroclean. ‘We continue to have a very strong relationship with Nilfisk and remain its sole distributor in South Africa.’ The rebranding and repurchase of the business is the latest chapter in a local success story that started in 1980. Industroclean quickly grew in size and the
range of services and brands it offered. Its relationship with Nilfisk was formalised in 2010 when the company was appointed exclusive distributor in the region, and the Danish manufacturer took a stake in the business. This transaction followed the acquisition two years earlier of Wap South Africa by Nilfisk. When, in 2014, the Danish company bought the remaining Industroclean shares it didn’t own, it merged this business with Wap South Africa. Corder says recent executive changes and the group’s listing on the Copenhagen Stock Exchange in 2017 prompted a strategic review of the local operations. For Industroclean, it will be business as usual as all operations, services and facilities remain unchanged.

Insurance is vital for SMMEs During tough economic times, insurance can seem like an unnecessary expense… until the worst happens. Christiaan Steyn, head of business insurance at MiWay explains why being up to date on your business insurance premiums is essential for SMMEs.
‘A premature termination of insurance can have devastating effects on a business faced with unforeseen events and in desperate need of cover’
I admire the guts of founders of small companies, the determination it takes to get up every morning and start again is something I enormously respect. When people think ‘industrial’, they picture the mega big companies, however, an economy cannot function without small businesses. It is like a machine – it needs a combination of small and big parts, to get the output. The trouble is, insurance hasn’t always been geared towards smaller, specialised businesses. In general, the old traditional commercial insurance industry has been slow to adapt. A good example is Airbnb. Typically, operators will have a home and business insurance package and Airbnb will provide additional cover to hosts. Yet, there may be gaps in cover that are not obvious to hosts. Therefore, the insurance industry needs to ensure there is universal awareness and education on comprehensive cover that can safeguard this innovative new market.
10
NO FLAT RATE PREMIUM It is vital insurance companies consistently reflect on the opportunities and challenges that face small businesses. In expanding into commercial insurance, MiWay committed to delivering a service that differentiated from the ‘traditional insurers’ approach, like the legal jargon in policy wording and unclear terms and conditions often presented in small print. We don’t apply a flat rate premium structure, everyone pays a premium that reflects their unique risk profile, which is not normal practice in commercial insurance. Businesses that manage their risk better enjoy a lower premium.
BUSINESS ASSIST We believe insurers can do more to help SMMEs succeed and focus on their core business. MiWay is launching a new Business Assist product this April where, for R29 per month, a business can receive legal advice, HR support, assistance with setting up a website and social media presence and a tender alert service to name a few.
INDUSTRIAL BUYER MARCH/APRIL 2019
During difficult economic times, insurance is often viewed as an unnecessary expense. We are always saddened by the number of times we receive claims from customers that have stopped paying their premiums a month or two before. A premature termination of insurance can have devastating effects on a business faced with unforeseen events and in desperate need of cover. For example, in the event of a liability claim being made against the business, cover will not be granted to a business that has stopped paying its monthly premium even if the event happened months before when cover was still in place. It is also vital that cover is updated along with changes in the business. An example could be engineers that transition from working at a contractor site to operating in a mining environment. Failure to advise the insurer and disclose current information immediately can lead to inadequate cover. Our country’s economy can only grow if we have thriving and sustainable small businesses. In working together with entrepreneurs, we can make sure their needs are met. Miway www.miway.co.za

First Sharia-compliant investment fund for global energy transition Exergy Capital, an advanced energy investment firm, and Dalma Capital Management, a prominent alternative investment fund accelerator in the Dubai International Financial Centre, have established the world’s first Sharia-compliant investment strategy to develop the infrastructure and technology required to reshape the energy value chain. The investment strategy seeks to generate attractive risk-adjusted returns by investing in real assets, infrastructure and companies, which have developed innovative technologies, products and services throughout the energy value chain, predominantly in Europe. It pursues a private equity style investment strategy generating capital gains for investors and focusing on uncrowded niches in the energy and interconnected sectors.

Becker observes: ‘The global energy transition is underway and affecting the entire energy value chain from energy firms, their providers, suppliers and financiers, to end users. The drivers include the need to decarbonise, as well as mounting pressures on and an increasing appetite for electrification and digitisation. ‘The next few years of the transition are critical. Investors will need to understand the unique opportunities as they are unlikely to come around again.’

The family of hard rockers Ehrenberg Engineering presents its specialised ‘Rocker Family’, a range of products designed to save you time and effort in materials handling, whether you’re in the manufacturing, beverage, canning, building, transport or agricultural business. The Rocker Bin, Rocker Barrow, Rocker Pallet — and the newly introduced Rocker Tip Trailer — are manufactured locally by Ehrenberg Engineering to ensure workers enjoy maximum comfort, safety and flexibility in their working environments. Needing no hydraulic attachments, each variant has its own unique ability enabling it to handle a wide variety of materials. The Rocker Bin, with its steady tipping ability (brought about by disengaging the locking mechanism), allows you to dump or unload fast and efficiently. Easily manoeuvrable, forks can slide securely into the ‘shoes’ of the bins, whether empty or loaded. Once emptied, the bin rocks back into its original position by the backward tilt of the fork hoist and is then automatically locked. The forklift driver therefore does not need to leave his seat, thus saving time and effort.
The Rocker Bar row, suited to manual bulk handling, has uses ranging from agricultural to industrial. Twice the size of a standard barrow, it is still perfectly balanced and easy to wheel. The simple foot release allows the operator to tip without effort. The Rocker Tip Trailer is designed for the fast and efficient transportation ofgoods. A load of 1.4 cubic meters can be off-loaded by one person in seconds. Any suitable tow vehicle can be used.
These bins come in various sizes with different accessories and attachments. The Turbo Rocker bin, for example, comes with an airtight lid and turbo industrial vacuum cleaner, giving it numerous cleaning and pneumatic filling applications.

The prefabricated Roading Solution BRP Roading Solutions are a unique range of prefabricated, bitumen rubber-bound materials for sealing, waterproofing, maintenance and traffic calming.
B
RP Roading Solutions is manufactured by Gauteng-based company AJ Broom Road Products. The company has a reputation for exceeding users’ expectations and a 25 year history of providing long lasting and economical solutions for the road owner.
THE HISTORY OF BRP ROAD PATCH In the mid 1980s the shortcomings of the available processes and materials were drivers for the development of the carpet tile-like bitumen rubber-bound material. It had to be offered in a range of aggregate sizes to match or create a change in texture. The BRP Road Patch contains the cost and use of raw materials as it does not require the area to be enlarged for the process of compaction and asphalt repair to be undertaken and completed. BRP Roading Solutions provides
immediate access to the site of installation with no curing time necessary.
JOB OPPORTUNITIES BRP Roading Solutions creates job opportunities by permitting entrepreneurs to access the industry without the financial capital other methods require. The solution is applied at ambient temperature and can be rolled with a vehicle or even water-filled or a lawn roller.

Make the flow count at the correct temperature VacServe, born from Vac-Cent Services specialises in vacuum and related products, dedicated to serve the customer by supplying reliable and cost effective equipment and systems to meet and exceed expectations. The Frese ALPHA and Frese Circon ranges of valves are a part of the company’s product offering.
F
RESE ALPHA DYNAMIC BALANCING VALVE
The Frese ALPHA range of flow limiting dynamic balancing valves has been developed for use in a wide range of applications for the accurate and efficient distribution of flow in heating and cooling systems. The second generation Frese ALPHA flow cartridge is the key component of the ALPHA range, limiting the flow and maintaining a constant differential pressure. The ALPHA flow cartridge is installed within the valve housing, ensuring the design flow rate is achieved irrespective of fluctuating pressure conditions. The patented design of the ALPHA flow cartridge offers a high degree of flexibility with an interchangeable orifice and the rolling, resistant diaphragm eliminates friction, noise and impact from water hammer. The ALPHA cartridge can also be removed for ease of maintenance and system flushing whilst the innovative design of the cartridge enables a self-cleaning function ensuring any dirt present in the system does not compromise the accuracy and operation.
It can be set to the desired temperature using the step less scale. In addition, the valves are also approved to the necessary industry standards and to further increase the energy efficiency of the product, the CirCon range is supplied with insulation as standard. The Frese CirCon thermostatic valve is the perfect solution for ensuring the thermal balance of a system. The main application is domestic hot water systems. Manufactured from Stainless Steel the Frese CirCon range is available in sizes DN15 to DN20. VacServe is the sole agent for Frese in the southern hemisphere.
· No main circuit or branch balancing valves needed in the system · No requirement for additional balancing valves in the distribution pipework, risers and branches · No straight pipe requirements upstream and downstream · Energy saving due to the elimination of overflows · High level of comfort for the end users.
FRESE CIRCON THERMOSTATIC CONTROL VALVES The new generation of CirCon is constructed in stainless steel AISI 316 for all parts in connection with water, to secure the highest resistance against corrosion. CirCon is designed to automatically control the temperature of the water that circulates through the valve, ensuring the thermal balance of the system.

How to choose the correct padlock If you make the wrong choice in purchasing a padlock not only have you wasted your time and money but you’ve also made the job of the thief a lot easier. IB McIntyre gives some tips on how to make the right choice of padlock for your specific needs. Do you need a special key system? You may need more than one padlock so should consider having all the padlocks work on one key. For very high security systems you should use a restricted keyway such as the US patented Edge Key system from Master Lock. This ensures no unauthorised duplicate keys can be made as there are no key blanks available. Duplicate keys can only be made in the factory for the authorised owner of the system.
How valuable is the item you want to protect? The more valuable the item, the higher the security of the padlock, therefore you should expect to pay more.
Consider the complete system you need to use.
What is the rating of the padlock? In South Africa there is a SANS specification for padlocks. Some manufacturers also give an indication of their padlock security rating, however this rating scale is subjective and could be misleading. When in doubt choose a quality brand.
The three main components of a padlock include the body, shackle and locking mechanism. The quality of manufacture as well as design and materials used will determine the overall level of security. Look out for phrases like ‘laminated steel body’, ‘dual ball bearing locking mechanism’, ‘octagonal shackle’ and ‘Boron Carbide’.

Facilities Management (FM) has grown from an array of isolated services, to a fully-fledged service offering targeting the entire value chain and, for three days, from 14 to 16 May at Gallagher Convention Centre in Midrand, visitors operating within this industry will be congregating to source new products and services, seek information on current and future trends, and network with other FM professionals. This is according to Sven Smit, portfolio director at Specialised Exhibitions Montgomery, who says the free-to-attend event will offer
numerous opportunities for connection with peers, experts and vendors to visitors seeking a better understanding of the industry as it stands in South Africa today. ‘In addition to the interactive exhibition area itself, visitors will have access – at no chargeto more than 50 topics across five seminar theatres,’ he says. ‘We’ll be hosting engaging talks that will highlight dominant trends and industry pain points, whilst encouraging healthy debate and knowledge exchange. ‘We’re expecting a broad range of exhibitors from various FM segments, including power
and water management, technology, risk management, and building infrastructure. As is the case with Securex and A-OSH, the show has been created with one aim in mind – to facilitate communication between exhibitors and visitors.’
FM SECTOR POISED FOR GROWTH Smit says research shows the FM sector in South Africa is poised for growth and transformation across several key service lines and vertical industries, and this underpins Specialised Exhibitions Montgomery’s decision to align Facilities Management Expo 2019 with Securex and A-OSH EXPO; focusing on the entire value chain. Visitors will have free access to all three colocated shows, face-to-face time with over 300 exhibitors, and free access to all five seminar theatres, including one stream dedicated solely on facilities management trends and challenges. ‘If your business offers or relies on any of the services presented within this growing industry segment, you cannot miss Facilities Management Expo 2019,’ says Smit. ‘Facilities Management is proving itself to be an industry to watch with many long term benefits to offer all businesses in South Africa – you don’t want to be trailing behind on this one.’ To register for your free attendance of Facilities Management Expo 2019, please visit www.fmexpo.co.za

INDUSTRY TALK
Job creation through local manufacturing Approximately 50 to 70 percent local content in products would be considered acceptable to the future growth and sustainability of the local manufacturing sector. This is according to Eric Bruggeman, CEO at the South African Capital Equipment Export Council (SACEEC). In a presentation at the Electra Mining Africa exhibition in September 2018, Bruggeman said the local manufacturing sector had experienced its highest turnover in some time during the third quarter of 2017. Capturing 32 percent of the local pie, the sector proved it is a serious contender, running a close second to general trade. SACEEC currently has 240 members and over the past three years these members have contributed over R43-billion per annum to the local economy.
‘In a nutshell, the unnecessary importation of goods, which are available from local manufacturers, is costing South Africa innumerable jobs and needs to be urgently addressed’
sources had failed to produce a positive outcome. ‘This is especially relevant given the fact that local procurement specialists still insist on sourcing products from overseas when local alternatives have in fact proven to be superior in terms of both performance and reliability. In a nutshell, the unnecessary importation of goods, which are available from local manufacturers, is costing South Africa innumerable jobs and needs to be urgently addressed,’ says Bruggeman. Determined to drive inclusion for local manufacturers as part of both the local and international supply chains, SACEEC has partnered with Specialised Exhibitions Montgomery, to launch the Local Southern African Manufacturing Expo (LME). The exhibition, which is endorsed by the Premier of Gauteng, David Makhura, will be held at the Expo Centre, Nasrec from 21 to 23 May 2019.
SKILLS DEVELOPMENT In addition to the exhibition, SAIMechE will host the free-to-attend seminars. There will
also be an arei (Association of Representatives for the Electronics Industry) Pavilion and the Artisan Training Institute (ATI) is hosting the Skills Development Zone. Other Association partners include International Steel Fabricators (ISF), Lifting Equipment Engineering Association of South Africa (LEEASA) and Mining Equipment Manufacturers of South Africa (MEMSA). ‘We are very excited at the potential that the Local Southern African Manufacturing Expo will provide for local manufacturers to market themselves to a captive extended audience. The exhibition will not only allow them to showcase their products and services in an interactive manner, but will furthermore equip them with the skills needed to drive entrepreneurial innovation and aftersales service. It will also create a fertile environment for visitors to find the right BBBEE and technology partners,’ says Bruggeman. Local Southern African Manufacturing Expo www.localmanufacturingexpo.co.za
BUILD THE COUNTRY’S ECONOMY Bruggeman cited Transnet’s delayed pipeline project as a great example of how local manufacturers could help build the country’s economy and reduce unemployment. The project, which has been plagued by numerous delays, was finally completed in early 2018. A local manufacturer of valves received a substantial order to replace the existing valves after products from two different
