Chairman’s Message from the Board I would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to all the members who have generously contributed to the cost of producing and posting our magazines. To those who have not yet done so, I hope that you will contribute in the near future. The network board has been concerned with reducing the cost of what is done. Streamlining the processes of event booking and management, will ease the burden of the events secretaries. To this end we have promoted a method of booking events online. This ensures that anyone wanting to partake can be certain that a place is available and reserved for them. We also ask that members pay for the event at time of booking, again online. The Network is required to pay some weeks in advance for the events we promote. We offer a guarantee that anyone cancelling a booking will be refunded in full, provided the network has not had to prepay for the event: In that circumstance, we will do our best to sell the place, or consider the reasons for the cancellation, to offer a refund. Our lack of funds means that we cannot meet all the aims in our constitution, however we will strive to do more to meet those aims. In order meet the needs of the older generation in Northamptonshire, we are in need of more volunteers. I would urge anyone who has some time to contact us; we have a number of different opportunities for members to contribute to our work. Ray Hutchins - Chairman

See ‘The Hook’ at the Royal & Derngate The play takes to Northampton’s Royal stage from Friday 5th to Saturday 27th June, before transferring to Liverpool. Amidst the political tensions of 1950s America, Arthur Miller’s The Hook was suppressed by the FBI for fear that it could cause unrest in New York’s dockyards. Sixty years on, the dockyards of Brooklyn’s epic waterfront will come alive on the Royal stage for the extraordinary story of Marty Ferrara, a longshoreman who challenges the mobsters and gangs of ‘50s New York and takes a stand against the corruption he witnesses from the authorities who control the docks. The story of a close-knit community grappling with a world of crime and punishment, of changing industry and immigration from abroad, The Hook is a study in integrity and betrayal, charting one man’s struggle for meaningful change. The Hook can be seen at Royal & Derngate, Northampton, from Friday 5th to Saturday 27th June, as part of its Made in Northampton 2015 season. Tickets are priced from £10 to £29*. For more information or to book, call Royal & Derngate Box Office on 01604 624811 or visit www.royalandderngate.co.uk. For your chance to win one of two pairs of tickets to see The Hook on Thursday 25 June 7.45pm, simply answer the following question: What year was Arthur Miller born? Email the answer, your name, full address and contact telephone number to tonyallen8@talktalk.net Alternatively, send your entries on a post card to: The Hook Competition, Northants 50+ Network, c/o St Giles Parish Office, St Giles Terrace, Northampton, NN1 2BN. Completed entries must be received by Tuesday 15th June 2015. * A transaction fee of £2.80 applies to telephone and website bookings only. Does not apply in person, or to Groups and Friends, and is per-transaction, not per-ticket.
