THIRTY-FIRST ANNUAL Christmas New Orleans StylE
Dear Friends, It is a pleasure to welcome you to 2015 Christmas New Orleans Style, a seasonal celebration of holiday feasting, soul-stirring music, unique shopping, and heart-warming traditions when you can “Follow Your Joy!” This year, we will once again present New Orleans to you in its most festive way. One of our premier events for the whole family, Christmas New Orleans Style, has many special activities including Celebration in the Oaks in City Park, candlelight caroling in Jackson Square, free concerts at the Saint Louis Cathedral and St. Augustine Church, festivities at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center, and holiday lights throughout our city. Let our city’s legendary chefs introduce you to the New Orleans Reveillon, a French holiday dining tradition. Every year, celebrated restaurants across the city offer affordable prix fixe menus, and we are excited to include ‘contemporary’ Reveillon offerings, as well as the alwaysanticipated traditional Reveillon menus. You can learn how to prepare our fabulous Creole holiday dishes with our famous chefs, who will be featured on WWL-TV 4 for the “Twelve Days of Reveillon” in December. If architecture is your passion, tour the mansions of the Garden District and the French Quarter, which are even more spectacular during the holidays. When gift-giving this season, consider something unique to New Orleans from our shops and boutiques on Royal Street and Magazine Street to the streets of Bywater, Mid-City, and Lakeview. Don’t forget the Arts and Museum districts as well! New Orleans is alive, be it day or night, and you’ll be able to listen to a wide variety of music from Bourbon Street to Frenchmen Street, from Fulton Street to Maple Street. New Orleans is also home to the annual R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl on December 19, 2015, in the Mercedes-Benz Superdome; “A NOLA New Year’s Eve,” including live music and fireworks, along the riverfront in the French Quarter; and, the match-up between the SEC and the Big 12 on January 1 at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, presented by the Allstate Sugar Bowl. It is a pleasure again to wish you and your family a happy holiday season and a most wonderful New Year! Sincerely, Mitch Landrieu Mayor, City of New Orleans

HISTORICAL CHARACTERS LOUISIANA HISTORY ALIVE! IN THE FRENCH QUARTER Discover New Orleans’ unique heritage – face to face. The martyrs and marauders, heroes and villains, divas and desperados of New Orleans’ past walk the streets of our historic city throughout the holiday season. Ever wonder what it was like when steamboats plied the Mississippi River, buggies and barouches lined the cobblestone streets, and citizens anxiously awaited the announcement of the French Opera House’s upcoming season? Discuss military tactics with Andrew Jackson, the founding of New Orleans with Bienville, or watercolors with John James Audubon. Ask Marie Laveau for the proper voodoo curse, Madame Begue for a recipe from her “second breakfast,” or the Venerable Henriette Delille for a blessing. Every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday throughout December, Louisiana History Alive characters will be visiting the French Quarter. They depart the Bourbon Orleans Hotel at 717 Orleans at 11am and stroll to Jackson Square and the riverfront at 1pm. On Fridays at noon you can find them at the French Market and Fridays and Saturdays at 2pm at the Old Ursuline Convent. They will also make appearances at the Bourbon Orleans’ Brunch with Santa. Some of the figures you may encounter include General Andrew Jackson, the Baroness Pontalba, Voodoo Queen Marie Laveau, opera legend Adelina Patti, Captain Jean Lafitte, Dr. Elizabeth Cohen, the “bread lady” Margaret Haughery, daguerreotypist Jules Lion, and of course Saint Nicholas. Please come out to say hello and enjoy history face-to-face in an interactive experience that is distinctively New Orleans.

REVEILLON
Pronounced ’rĕ-vē-ŏn (Hint: the ‘L’s are silent!)
AT NEW ORLEANS FINEST RESTAURANTS During the mid-1800s, New Orleans’ Creole families celebrated the “Reveillon” (French for “awakening”) twice during the holidays. The first Reveillon came after Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve, when families returned from St. Louis Cathedral to break a daylong fast with an elaborate meal. The meal consisted of egg dishes, sweetbreads, and Creole specialties, such as daube glacé. It often ended with a cake filled with a fruit confection, dripping with wine or rum, and topped with whipped cream. New Year’s Eve brought another Reveillon, usually shared among several families. This more festive meal featured eggnog, fancy pastries, meringues, sugar sculptures, and crystallized fruits. By late afternoon, families would return home to a light supper followed by a night of singing and dancing – with wine and whiskey for the gentlemen, and cordials and liqueurs for the ladies. Today’s Reveillon is celebrated nightly during the Christmas season in restaurants throughout the city. Menus combine ageless Creole cuisine with more contemporary New Orleans dishes, but the spirit of the past remains. In fact, some of our Reveillon restaurants—Antoine’s, Commander’s Palace, Galatoire’s and Tujague’s—are more than 100 years old! Revel in nostalgia and join us for the Reveillon— the authentic taste of Christmas New Orleans Style!
Reveillon menus are categorized in two ways:
Reveillon Traditional A rich, special occasion menu created in the style of, and inspired by, the tastes of the original Creoles.
Reveillon Contemporary A rich, special occasion menu utilizing preparation techniques and products of the modern day not necessarily available to the original Creoles. Prices do not include tax or gratuity, and may not be combined with other promotional offers or discounts. Available holiday dates are noted in each listing, but please call in advance to confirm or check the restaurant’s website: (CE) Open Christmas Eve; (CER) Open Christmas Eve with Reveillon Dinner; (CD) Open Christmas Day; (CDR) Open Christmas Day with Reveillon Dinner; (NYE) Open New Year’s Eve; (NYER) Open New Year’s Eve with Reveillon Dinner; (NYD) Open New Year’s Day; (NYDR) Open New Year’s Day with Reveillon Dinner.
