SIDEWALK CHALK Thursday, July 24 Toledo Arts Guild is proud to host the Toledo Summer Festival Sidewalk Chalk Contest. July 24, 2014 All ages are encouraged to participate and show off your artistic abilities. Prizes will be awarded. You may bring your own chalk. Kids chalk will be available for free. Artistic Chalk will be available for sale. Sign in at Briseno Art Gallery on Main Street at 1:00pm After receiving your chalk and space begin with your masterpiece. You have until 4:00pm to finish. Judging will begin at that time. Prizes will be awarded at 7:00 PM at the Courts Coronation on Memorial Football Field.

Mrs. Claus Silent Auction Saturday, July 26 Mrs. Claus Auction House 2 PM - 6 PM Memorial Football Field Mrs. Claus and her Board of Directors, are raising money for the Christmas Season. These funds are used to purchase toys for good boys and girls that may not other wise have gifts under their tree come Christmas morning. This year she will be having a silent auction at the Toledo Summer Festival. This Merry Elf has been told that various businesses and local community members are providing not only baskets for adults to bid on but baskets for kids to bid on as well. Come on down to the festival and bring your money to help this wonderful cause. Remember Santa is always watching!! Make sure to watch for the Christmas Elves in this year’s parade. They have signed up and have the sleigh ready to go!


2014 Famous In Toledo Friday, July 25 6 PM Mainstream Music will provide music with JG providing an abundance of music to select from. If you prefer to bring you own music, it must be original karaoke music. You may not use props or instruments in your performance. There will be no challenges to the judge’s decisions. All contestant must sign a sworn statement that they have not been paid to sign anywhere and that they are a true amateur. Friday, July 25, 2014 Semi –Finals Sign-ups are from 6:00 PM – 7:00 PM Space is limited to the first 20 Adults and 10 Kids No sign-ups after 7:00 PM Try outs start at 7:00 PM promptly. Top 15 semi-finalists will be announced immediately after the semi-final round is finished. These are the people who will preform on Sunday, July 27th in the finals. Finals will begin at 1:00 PM Prize money will be awarded immediately after the finals have ended. Prize Money Adults: 14 years and over • 1st Place $200.00 • 2nd Place $100.00 • 3rd Place $75.00 Kids: 13 years and younger • 1st Place $75.00 • 2nd Place $50.00 • 3rd Place $25.00 All kids must have a signed parent permission slip in order to win a prize. Judging Elements All contestants will be judged on 5 elements. Each element is worth 10 points. A total of 50 points is possible. Tempo and Rhythm: How well the performer stays in tempo. Duration of notes (holding notes too long or not long enough). Awareness of the rhythmic style of the piece. Staccato and legato sung correctly. Pitch and Intonation Control: Awareness of the intended key and mode. How accurately the performer harmonizes with the music. Use of Vibrato. Strength and range of voice. Phrasing – Expression: Use of phrasing (Starting and stopping nicely). Articulation (understandable words). Dynamics (loud and soft). Tonal color variation (smoothly here, gravely there). Stage Presence: Facial expression and body gestures. Command of the audience through eye contact, etc. Appearance of confidence and relaxation on stage. Costume or dress appropriate to represent the nation. Audience – Entertainment value (Overall performance): How absorbing and entertaining was the performance? Audience reaction (applause). Note to contestant; Audience participation is 20% of your score. Some ballads do not invoke the same participation from the audience as an upbeat tempo song. Be aware of this when you select your song.


Kids Parade: Friday, July 25 6 PM (5:30 PM for parade participants) Dress up and help kick off the Toledo Summer Festival in style. Bring your parents and make it a family event. Everyone loves a parade - especially the kids’ parade! Everyone gets a prize!! Come to the Toledo Library by 5:30 PM to be in the parade. The parade begins at 6 PM from the Toledo Library and ends at the end of Main Street.

Ax Men wouldn’t be able to keep up with him. Competed in past Toledo Summer Festival Logging Competition. Won log rolling contest. Over the years he has been a Member of: Toledo JC’s, Toledo Elks, Toledo Fire Department, Toledo Summer Festival, Big Timber Rifle & Pistol Club, Toledo Eagles, Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation, Elk City Grange, Elk City 4H Club, Mt. Baber ATV Club, and Mt. Baber Racing Team. Elk City Centennial Committee for the boat races. While filming Sometimes A Great Notion. Jon wrecked his bike in front of Paul Newman. Jon is our go to guy for the festival. If it is broke, he can fix it. One of our members called him Clem Gyver. He can make it work you just don’t know what it will look like. Jon is well liked in the community. He has a good heart and will just do about anything to help anyone.

Toledo Summer Festival 5k Saturday, July 26 Meet at Les Schwab Tire Center 9:00 AM This year’s Toledo Summer Festival walk/run will be held in memory of Paul Boyer, long time Toledo High Staff alumni and Cross Country Coach, who passed away March 2nd, 2013. He was loved and admired by all who had the pleasure to know him or be coached by him. The run will start at 9:00 am in front of the Toledo Summer Festival Gate near Les Schwab. We encourage participants to wear blue and gold as we remember a great teacher, coach, and friend. Finishers will receive some famous “Boyer’s Cross County Cookies”!!!!! Cost to participate is by donation. Proceeds to go to the Toledo Track & Field Team. We hope to see you there!!!! Paul Boyer Memory Shirts with Blue and Gold are available.
