ADULT SUMMER READING CLUB FINALE

19TH ANNUAL OREGON LEGACY SERIES

Nineteen years ago, Driftwood Public Library completed a move into a new facility at Lincoln Square Civic Center in Lincoln City. To celebrate the library’s new home and to thank the community for all of its support during the transition, the Friends of Driftwood Public Library created a gift for the community. With little resources beyond the income from their occasional book sales, the Friends underwrote the first literary series ever presented in Lincoln County, the “Oregon Legacy Series.” Each year they have renewed that sponsorship. Authors have yet to be announced, but the series will take place at 3 p.m. Sunday afternoons on January 6, 13, 20 and 27. The presenter is The Friends of Driftwood Public Library. For more information contact Ken Hobson at Driftwood Public Library for details (541-996-1242; kenh@lincolncity.org). “For 24 hours we treat an Oregon author like a hero, as all authors and artists should be treated,” remarks Sue Jenkins, Oregon Legacy Series creator. Driftwood Public Library is located on the second floor of the City Hall building. 801 SW Hwy 101.The library offers the best in children’s literature, Young Adult reads, audio books, adult reads, nonfiction for all ages, magazines for kids and adults, DVDs and VHS movies, Library 2 Go help, computer use, story times, author visits and so much more. Disaster Preparedness Guide

The City of Lincoln City is continually improving its ability to respond to and deal with emergencies. Your responsibility is to prepare yourself and your family to survive until the City can respond.

As a coastal resident, you may experience the following:

• Damaging windstorms • Flooding • Severe beach erosion • Forest fires or urban fires • Earthquakes, which may generate tsunamis • Power outages caused by any or all of the above

Your emergency plan should address the following:

• Know where you live and work in relation to the evacuation zone. Find a Tsunami Evacuation Map for your area (Lincoln City maps are available at Lincoln City Hall and the Lincoln City Community Center). • Prepare to evacuate if you live inside the tsunami evacuation zone. Do not evacuate if you live outside the evacuation zone. • Know the difference between a distant tsunami and a local one. They require a different response. (Ground shaking is your warning of a local tsunami.) • Store enough food and medicine to last at least 72 hours. Use protective containers. • Have a NOAA alert weather radio tuned to either 162.550 Otter Crest or 162.475 Mt. Hebo. Be sure to have battery backup. • If you use a cell phone or cordless phone, we recommend you have an oldfashioned plug in phone for backup purposes. • Have a battery-powered radio tuned to KBCH 1400 AM (Lincoln City) or KYTE 102.7 FM (Newport). • Do not let your gas tank fall below half. Carry an emergency kit in your car. • Develop a family emergency plan that includes all hazards, a place to meet or third party for all family members to call. • Have pet food, water and a carrying case or leash/harness for pets. • Have a “Grab and Go Kit” ready at home and at work, complete with emergency supplies. For more information, please contact Sheridan Jones, Lincoln City Emergency Planner at 541-996-1202.
