Swim Lessons Schedule

Schedule/Course Description

SWIM LESSON COURSE DESCRIPTIONS INTRODUCTION TO WATER SKILLS LEVEL ONE

There are no prerequisites for this course. The objective of Level One is to help students feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely. At this level students start developing good attitudes and safe practices around the water. Students will also be introduced to floating.

Swim Lessons Schedule

FUNDAMENTAL AQUATIC SKILLS LEVEL TWO

Successful completion of Level One is required to enter this level. The objective of this level is to give students success with fundamental skills such as learning to float without support, and to recover to a vertical position. Students will also explore simultaneous and alternating arm and leg actions on the front and back to lay the foundation for future strokes.

STROKE DEVELOPMENT LEVEL THREE

Students entering Level Three must have Level Two certification or be able to demonstrate the skills required to complete Level Two. The objective of Level Three is to build on the skills learned in Level Two. Students will learn to coordinate the front crawl and back crawl. Elements of the butterfly and the fundamentals of treading water are introduced here as well.

STROKE IMPROVEMENT LEVEL FOUR

Students entering Level Four must have Level Three certification or be able to demonstrate the skills required to complete Level Three. Students will learn to improve their skills and increase their endurance by swimming familiar strokes (front crawl and back crawl) for greater distances. They will continue to build on the butterfly and introduce the elementary backstroke, breaststroke, and elements of the sidestroke. The basics of turning at a wall are also introduced.

STROKE REFINEMENT LEVEL FIVE

Students entering Level Five must have Level Four certification or be able to demonstrate the skills required to complete Level Four. The objective of Level Five is coordination and refinement of all the strokes learned thus far: front and back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke, elementary backstroke and sidestroke. Endurance is also increased. Flip turns on the front and back are also introduced.

STROKE REFINEMENT LEVEL SIX

Level Six is geared toward preparing students for competitive and fitness swimming. Students will work on refining all strokes including butterfly, backstroke, breaststroke and freestyle, along with competitive starts and turns and building endurance.

Emergency planning

Disaster Preparedness Guide

Disaster Preparedness

The City of Lincoln City is continually improving its ability to respond to and deal with emergencies. Your responsibility is to prepare yourself and your family to survive until the City can respond.

As a coastal resident, you may experience the following:

Damaging windstorms Flooding Severe beach erosion Forest fires or urban fires Earthquakes, which may generate tsunamis Power outages caused by any or all of the above

Disaster Preparedness

• • • • •

Your emergency plan should address the following: • Know where you live and work in

• •

• • • • • •

relation to the evacuation zone. Prepare to evacuate if you live inside the tsunami evacuation zone. Do not evacuate if you live outside the evacuation zone. Know the difference between a distant tsunami and a local one. They require a different response. (Ground shaking is your warning of a local tsunami.) Store enough food and medicine to last at least 72 hours. Use protective containers. Have a NOAA alert weather radio tuned to either 162.550 Otter Crest or 162.475 Mt. Hebo. Be sure to have battery backup. If you use a cell phone or cordless phone, we recommend you have an old-fashioned plug in phone for backup purposes. Have a battery-powered radio tuned to KBCH 1400 AM (Lincoln City) or KYTE 102.7 FM (Newport). Do not let your gas tank fall below half. Carry an emergency car kit in your car. Develop a family emergency plan that includes all hazards, a place to meet or third party for all family members to call. Have pet food, water, and a carrying case or leash/harness for pets. Have a “Grab and Go Kit” ready at home and at work, complete with emergency supplies. Subscribe to the new FREE Community InformationService to receive emergency notifications as text messages to your cell phones or e-mail. Register at http:// local.nixle.com/register/.
