Texaco Country Showdown Saturday, July 27th 7 PM Anticipation and excitement is higher than ever as aspiring country music artists prepare for the 32nd annual KSHL Texaco Country Showdown Local Final, presented by Toby Murry Toyota, is set for 7pm, Saturday, July 27th at the Toledo Summerfest. KSHL Radio 97.5 will host America’s largest country music talent search and radio promotion. KSHL is proud to announce that Toby Murry Toyota is the new local presenting sponsor. $500 is on the line for the local winner. Toledo Summerfest’s Memorial Field is the perfect setting for the competition, which will spotlight some of the best and brightest talent this area has to offer. A run-through starts after the timber contest, followed by the local final show at 5pm on Saturday, July 27th. KSHL Local Final coordinators will select contestants from entry forms and audition recordings received at KSHL Radio. The winning act at the KSHL Texaco Country Showdown Local Final will represent KSHL at the Oregon State Country Showdown to be held at The Mill Casino Hotel, Coos Bay, Oregon. All performances at the KSHL Local final at Toledo Summerfest will be able to perform with recorded tracks, cappella or with their own instruments. “This is not a karaoke contest,” states Stephanie Linn, KSHL Local Final Coordinator. “This contest is a true talent contest to find the best new acts in Country Music and as such, we are looking for acts that are marketable and ready to sell Cd’s and perform in concert.” “But don’t think this is a contest that is beyond the dreams of local singers. 2010’s Oregon State Winner was our own KSHL Local Winner!” Encourages Ms. Linn. Also the KSHL Local Final is not restricted to Lincoln County residents, anyone from anywhere in the country can enter this contest, as long as they meet the contest rule requirements. So KSHL invites local family and friends of aspiring country music artists that may live out of our area to come to Toledo to enter the competition. New this year, our KSHL – Toby Murry Toyota local winner will receive a $500 cash prize. State winners, each of whom earns a $1,000 cash prize, will advance to the Regional competition in the fall. Winners of the five regional contest winners will be flown expense-paid to the National Final where they will compete for the Grand Prize of $100,000 and the National Title. The Texaco Country Showdown gives aspiring country music artists in America a chance to launch their professional careers. Country Showdown audiences may be seeing, hearing and applauding the next country music star. The “Texaco Country Showdown” is open to vocal and/or instrumental performers, individuals or groups with up to seven members, who have not performed on a record listed in the national record charts of Billboard, Radio and Records, or the Gavin Report within eighteen months preceding the local competition. There is a $20 entry fee and all contestants must begin their competition by performing at Country Showdown contests produced by participating country music radio stations. A uniform judging system on all levels of the competition ensures fairness. Information about the KSHL Texaco Country Showdown, presented by Toby Murry Toyota, is available at www.kshl.com. Official entry forms are available only at Toby Murry Toyota in South Beach. Local coordinator is Stephanie Linn, KSHL, 541-265-6000.

Toledo Summer Festival 5k Saturday, July 27 Meet at Les Schwab Tire Center 9:00 AM There is no need for eager attendees at the Toledo Summer Festival to worry about the extra elephant ear or snow cone they enjoy at this year’s event, as there will be an opportunity to work off the calories before they are even consumed. This week the Summer Festival announced the fifth annual 5k Fun Run and Walk, which takes place on Saturday, July 27 at 9:00 am, the main day of festivities. The route will start and end at memorial Field, adjacent to Les Schwab Tire Center. The course provides a nice tour of Toledo, traveling up to hwy 20 and continuing up to the top of Main Street. You decide which side of Main Street you would like to walk. Walk past the shops and do some window browsing, while walking check out the sidewalk art, that Toledo’s youth and young at heart have work so hard on. Enjoy the flower baskets provided by Toledo businesses and citizens. Cross over to Butler Bridge Road and walk past Georgia Pacific, through the park and turn around at Toledo Elementary School. Make your way back to Memorial Field. Race organizers said they are very focused on making the run and walk as enjoyable as possible for participant, there will be plenty of water, and camaraderie for runners and walkers.
