New 3,000-square-foot laser tag arena added to fun at Eagle Falls Adventure Golf Eagle Falls Adventure Golf and Northern Lights Laser Tag is owned and operated by Mark and Karen Cropsey and their children, Zach and Emily, of St. Germain. They have been in the area 16 years, managing vacation properties and rentals. Eagle Falls Adventure Golf Eagle Falls, located in Eagle River, is in its seventh season. The theme of the course is a 1950s fishing camp. Golfers putt their way around a fishing cabin, a bait shop and a fishing dock. “We wanted to create a mini golf course that was challenging and interactive,” said Mark Cropsey. Golfers can make several choices throughout the course. For example, they can cross the river by bridge or stepping stones, descend the ranger tower by stairs or slide, and many holes have multiple options for play. The Cropseys are always working hard to change and improve the course. The landscaping is constantly maintained and updated to keep the course fresh and exciting for golfers. “People discover something new each time they come to the course,” said Mark Cropsey. If you look close, hole No. 5 is in the shape of a giant muskie where you tee off at the tail and putt past the fin rock formations. The muskie’s eye is the cup. “We wanted to build a course that was different from the normal mini golf course,” said Karen Cropsey. “Something symbolic was needed to highlight the area. Therefore, the main rock formation and waterfall features an eagle’s head.” In addition to the cascading waterfalls, the course also includes lakes, rivers and fountains. “We wanted the water

features to really stand out,” explained Mark Cropsey. “The course has 20,000 gallons of water.” After finishing a round, golfers have the chance to win a free game on the 18th hole, humorously called “Nature Calls.” The hole features a talking outhouse that has become a fun feature of the course. The outhouse comments on golfers’ shots and then flushes if a free game is won. Any free passes given by Eagle Falls will never expire, so customers can use them at their own convenience. Eagle Falls Adventure Golf offers discounts to camps, clubs and large groups. Northern Lights Laser Tag This spring, Eagle Falls introduced a whole new activity to their mini golf operation — Northern Lights Laser Tag Arena. Laser tag can be enjoyed by all ages (6 and older is suggested) and the Eagle River laser tag is the only one in the region, according to Mark and Karen Cropsey. Laser tag is essentially a high-tech game of tag or capture the flag where players are challenged to make the most tags on their opponents. The team with the most tags wins. Northern Lights Laser Tag encompasses a 3,000square-foot, multilevel interactive facility where up to 16 people can compete in an exciting team-based or individual game. The fun effects include swirling fog, black lights, music, multilevel play areas and creative themed decorations. After players enter a briefing and vesting chamber, a guide sets up the teams and gives instructions on how to play and use the high-tech phaser and vest. Players then pass through the stargate and find themselves in a fogfilled wooded atmosphere surrounded by the northern lights. Black lights and

What makes a great-tasting pizza every time? What makes a great pizza? Tradition. The old ways still work, and all good cooking starts with the basics. Quality food starts with the ingredients. Only the finest ingredients should be used, starting from the bottom up, to ensure satisfied customers who come back time after time for the best pizza around. The first ingredient for any pizza is dough. It should be made with flour that is high gluten, the highest quality flour, Amber Durham wheat — the finest of all wheats, cane sugar and only the best yeast. It must be made fresh, never frozen. The dough should then be thrice raised, which takes 36 hours. This ensures the best dough possible. Pear tomato puree is the main ingredient for the next layer, the sauce. Pear tomatoes are one of the best on the market because they contain the maximum of tomato solids. The best of domestic and imported spices would then be blended to create a uniquely superb sauce with a savory taste. In Wisconsin, cheese is a very important ingredient for pizza. All the cheese used should be 100% Wisconsin full cream moz-

zarella, without one gram of artificial cheese, for the fullest flavor. A superb pizza also contains the best meat. The sausage should be 100% meat, 90% lean whole hog, blended with the finest spices for a delectable taste sure to please even the most discriminating of palates. The pepperoni should also be 100% meat, 90% lean, aged to perfection to enhance the flavor, sure to please all pepperoni lovers. Other toppings available must also be high quality. Only the best onions should be used, including Vadalia, Walla Walla, Texas 10/15, and sweet red Bermuda onions. These create a mouthwatering addition to any pizza. Green peppers must be mixed slightly with the sweetest red bell peppers for an appetizing way to liven up a pizza. California black olives also add a savory taste. For a wild appetite, sweet succulent pineapple, crispy vitamin-rich broccoli, tender flaky solid white albacore, or luscious shrimp could be added. At Alexander’s Pizza, these basics have created a tradition of quality food,

which has made the restaurant the most popular pizza stop for residents and vacationers alike. In addition, when all the ingredients are being artfully combined, nobody wants to think of a dirty kitchen or unsanitary conditions. But never fear, for Alexander’s Pizza has the cleanest kitchen you’ll find. In fact, it would even be clean enough to perform surgery. Of course, an aesthetically pleasing environment is also needed to enjoy the full pleasure of eating delicious pizza. Alexander’s Pizza offers a clean, relaxing environment with friendly service and a casual atmosphere. Games and pool are also available to entertain the kids while the food is being prepared to order. Where do you get pizza made with care and concern? Alexander’s Pizza — that’s where. Alexander’s Pizza is located on Railroad Street in downtown Eagle River. Call (715) 479-7363, and your pizza will be ready when you arrive. Alexander’s Pizza is the place for you. Mike Stephan, owner of Lehner-Stephan Jewelers in Eagle River, has more than 33

years of experience as a certified master jewelry designer and watchmaker.

Fine jewelry, watches created at Lehner-Stephan Lehner-Stephan Jewelers in downtown Eagle River has 67 years of experience and the knowledge to create and repair fine-quality jewelry, clocks and watches. The business was founded by Al Lehner in 1945. At that time, the store was devoted to making and repairing watches and clocks. The current owner and nephew of Lehner, Mike Stephan, had visited his uncle frequently over the years. He was attending college at UW-Oshkosh when he learned of his uncle’s wish for one of his nephews to take over his business. Two years later in 1978, Mike Stephan enrolled at Milwaukee Area Technical College for watchmaking and jewelry design with the intention of meeting his uncle’s wishes. In 1980, Stephan found himself the new owner of his uncle’s store, but was soon left to learn the rest of the business world by himself, as his uncle died shortly thereafter. Now in 2013, Stephan boasts more than 33 years of experience as a certified master jewelry designer

and watchmaker. Stephan is driven by his passion for improving jewelry and the gratification he receives upon creating quality pieces for customers. Lehner-Stephan offers Lehner’s’s custom-made Eagle Gold Jewelry. As an artist, Stephan gravitates toward natural designs, drawing inspiration from pinecones, acorns, deer and the multitude of wildlife he experiences in the North Woods on a daily basis. While Stephan possesses a unique style, this is not the extent of his craft. His vast portfolio ranges from natural shapes to elegant and modern designs. “Simple elegance will always be in,” said Stephan. Stephan’s custom-made pieces feature a variety of materials, including rare elk’s teeth. Stephan explained that two teeth in every elk’s mouth are made of ivory. These teeth are gathered and hand carved for earrings, pendants, bracelets and necklaces. Stephan went on to explain that his early career as a master watchmaker has given him the fine eye and

patience to craft these intricate miniature pieces of art. Many customers take their jewelry to Stephan to transform into new, one-ofa-kind pieces. He can custom make mostly any kind of jewelry. Lehner-Stephan Jewelers sells a large selection of fine watches, rings, engagement rings, bracelets, charms, earrings, pendants and other fine jewelry. They also sell estate and consignment jewelry as well as giftware and many wedding accessories. Rhythm Clock’s Harmony of Love and Seiko’s Melody in Motion musical clocks are carried in the store, as well as Seiko and Pulsar watches. If the store doesn’t have what you're looking for, Stephan can order it. “Come and see what we are really about,” said Stephan. “You won’t be disappointed.” Lehner-Stephan Jewelers is located at 110 Wall St. in Eagle River. It is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays. Call (715) 479-4520 or visit michaelseaglegold.com.

116 WALL ST., EAGLE RIVER, WI 54521

“When I go to Lick-a-dee Splitz, I feel like dancing!” That’s how one young patron described his experience at the Three Lakes ice cream shop. “To me,” said owner Denise Kerns, “that speaks as highly of us as a five-star review. Our top-quality products make me proud, but the staff and the atmosphere are what it’s really all about.” At Lick-a-dee Splitz in the heart of downtown Three Lakes, every customer is greeted with a smile and a genuine desire to make each trip a happy memory. From the music played to the cheerful, unique décor and the friendly staff, everything at Lick-a-dee Splitz says, “Good times happen here!” Patrons can select from 28-plus flavors of ice cream, a dozen or so varieties of fudge made right on the premises and sampled

freely, and an impressive array of chocolates. Ice cream cakes and pies are custom-made for any special event. Also featured are novelty and nostalgic candies, toys, gifts and more. To quench any thirst, try the fresh-squeezed lemonade, an all-natural fruit smoothie, or an old-fashioned malt or a float made with one of the classic glass-bottled soft drinks. Up for a challenge? Then the Bidonkadonk is for you! This massive sundae, comprised of 12 scoops of ice cream and four toppings, plus whipped cream, nuts and cherries, was originally intended as a family sized treat, but each year dozens of people of all ages conquer the giant treat on their own. “I don’t recommend it,” said Kerns, “but it’s like a proverbial frozen mountain that some feel compelled to climb just because it’s

there!” Everyone who eats a Bidonkadonk, whether alone or in a group, gets their picture taken and posted on the electronic “Frame of Fame” displayed in the store, as well as on the Lick-a-dee Splitz Facebook page. If a Bidonkadonk is just a bit too much, try a classic banana split or one of the specialty sundaes. The Dish o’ Dirt, complete with chocolate sauce, crushed Oreos and gummy worms is a favorite with the younger crowd. Lick-a-dee Splitz is proud to carry a limited selection of Sassy Cow Dairy ice cream. Sassy Cow is a super premium ice cream made just outside of Madison by a small family dairy. At 14% butterfat, it’s some of the richest ice cream available anywhere. Sassy Cow is available

in delicious flavor combinations such as orange-chocolate, ginger-pear or peanut butter and banana, to name a few. For an extra treat, have a scoop in one of their plain or chocolate-dipped homemade waffle cones! Lick-a-dee Splitz ice cream and treat shop is located right next to the newly renovated Three Lakes Center for the Arts and across the street from the landmark Black Forest restaurant. Many patrons of the theater and restaurant stop into Lick-a-dee Splitz after dinner or a movie to extend their evening out. The comfortable, spacious deck is a perfect setting to end a summer’s eve in the North Woods. Summer hours are from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. For more information, call (715) 546-8285.

Knitt’s is a full-line hardware store Owners Kent and Terry Knitt are committed to providing solutions to most home repair and maintenance situations. The odds are high that customers will deal directly with one of the members of the Knitt family. The Knitt family entered the hardware business in 1947, when Kent’s grandfather, Alfred Knitt, purchased Marion Hardware in Marion. In 1973, Bill and Shirley Knitt bought the hardware store in St. Germain and added the hardware store in Boulder Junction to their business in 1987. Current owners Kent and Terry Knitt bought the St. Germain hardware store in 1996, while Kent’s sister, Krista Maurer, and her husband, Dennis, bought the Boulder Junction store. In 1998, Kent’s father, Bill, passed away. Kent’s mother, Shirley, continues to work full time between the St. Germain and Boul-

der Junction stores. The store has a longrunning family history of which Kent Knitt is very proud. Offered in the store are a full line of hardware, tools and accessories for any job. Knitt’s is a certified Stihl outdoor power equipment dealer. Knitt’s also has a wide selection of Hank’s paints and Cabot stains for painting and staining projects. CornerStone Custom Builders Inc. has recently completed its 23rd year supplying custom-built homes varying in style, size and function to fulfill its customer’s visions throughout the North Woods. “We always have prided ourselves on being an innovative business able to adjust to the current trends and desires of our clients,” stated Glenn Schiffmann, president of CornerStone. The most recent trend in the local market as well as nationally, has been a push to scale back the overall square footage in homes, provide more durable finishes, and utilize greener building products and practices. CornerStone recently released The CornerStone Cottage Series, a plan booklet dedicated to seven of CornerStone’s most popular cottage floor plans with all of them at the same price point of $150,000. You will find that each cottage can be finished turnkey on your lot for this price or if you want, you may add a loft, screen porch, walkout basement, or an attached garage. “You may also use the booklet as a tool to inspire your ideas as there are no restrictions to the flexibility we can offer,” said David Cox, vice president of operations. The traditional backbone of CornerStone’s business is the building of single-family homes. “We are uniquely equipped to build the home that matches your lifestyle. Our homes are custom built with unlimited available options,” said Bruce Stefonek, project manager at the Rhinelander office. “To assist you in your design decisions, you are invited to tour the eight model homes to spark ideas and generate questions as you start your home-building journey,” said Jeremy Oberlander, project manager located in Eagle River. “Our model homes are a

great tool to use when sitting down in the planning stages. The ability to see a vaulted ceiling, the size of a potential room or kitchen layout is invaluable,” said Eric Klein, project manager at the Minocqua office. CornerStone’s originality allows you to build from your own home plans or sit down with their talented designer and bring a sketch to reality. “Several of the homes we have built are a mixture of several home plans or a combination of our model home floor plans. We have many options to get you started,” said Darren Rubo, project manager at the Eagle River office. More and more clients were requesting a larger percentage of green building materials and products offering additional energysaving efficiencies in their new homes. In keeping the tradition of being a leader in the northern Wisconsin building circles and giving

their customers even more options, CornerStone built its newest model home, the GreenStone, a green-certified home, at the Minocqua location. The GreenStone features a totally different look and material selection from the other CornerStone model homes presently displayed. The fact is, CornerStone has been building green for many years and felt it was time to provide its customers with the option to certify their CornerStone home at little or no additional cost. “While some of these products add costs on the front end of the project, the goal is to recapture this initial investment with energy savings over time while being sensitive to the demand placed on our natural resources and the North Woods environment,” said Steve Schmutzer, project manager in the Minocqua office.

To learn more, you are welcome to visit with one of the project managers at any of CornerStone’s three locations. Sunburst offers full-service tanning Sunburst Tanning provides full-service tanning in the North Woods area with locations in Eagle River and Rhinelander that offer a variety of tanning options to customers. Combined, the salons have a total of 18 tanning beds with six different levels of tanning, as well as two UV-free Mystic Tan spray booths. Sunburst Tanning employs fully certified tanning technicians and offers many types of before- and after-care lotions to help customers enhance and extend their tan. “The people who come up here from out of the area are just amazed that the North Woods would have tanning salons with this many different beds and options,” said owner Dave Meinnert. Between the two locations, Sunburst Tanning features six types of tanning beds, all with different tanning times and lamp combinations. The 20-minute Silver Beds are their first-level bed and feature 32 100watt lamps. The 15-minute Bronze Beds are the second level, with 42 100-watt lamps and three facial lamps. The 12-minute Gold Beds are the third level. They feature 32 lamps, with 160-watt lamps in the canopy and 100-watt lamps on the laying area. Both locations also offer a 10minute Gold Stand-Up Bed, featuring 48 160-watt lamps. The Platinum Bed is the fourth level and offers a 12minute tan. It features 54 lamps, 160-watt lamps in the canopy, 100-watt lamps in the laying area and four facial lamps. The highest-level bed, available at the Rhinelander salon, is the nine-minute Diva Bed with 54 160-watt lamps. The Rhinelander salon

also features a high-pressure bed that uses a sophisticated filtering system, resulting in a deeper, longerlasting tan that requires fewer sessions to maintain once the base tan is achieved. For those looking to add a boost of color without using a tanning bed, both locations also offer a UVfree Mystic Spray Tan. New Sunburst Tanning customers receive their first tan for free. The salons also offer free upgrades on Wednesdays. Sunburst Tanning is a member of the International Smart Tan Network, which is only granted to salons that commit to the highest standards of excellence and education. The management and staff at Sunburst Tanning are formally trained in the professional operation of tanning equipment, utilize professional skin-typing methods for exposure time assessment, teach clients sunburn prevention practices indoors and outdoors, adhere to the highest standards of sanitation and cleanliness, and accept and promote all the principles of smart tanning. With locations in Rhinelander and Eagle River, customers are able to utilize packages between both locations. If you are looking for a great lake view, casual and family friendly dining, Club 45 is the place to be. Located on Denton Lake in Conover, Club 45 Sports Bar and Grill has become the destination of choice for those who want to enjoy good food and drinks at affordable prices. Owners Dave and Jen Payne started looking to move “Up North” while on vacation in 1998. Once they saw Club 45, they knew it was the right location. “I always tell people that we took a chance on owning a bar and restaurant, but if we had never tried we would always regret it, and we are still here almost 14 years later,” said Jen Payne. Now the Paynes are raising their three children and continuing to expand their business. Club 45, nicknamed “The House of Payne” features many items on the menu including the popular white cheese curds, chargrilled burgers, Italian beef, and thin crust and Chicago-style deep-dish pizza. They also feature an 18-
