Some tips offered on paddleboarding
The Country Store in Eagle River offers nostalgic and homemade candies, chocolates and ice cream. They have won
awards for their fudge and cashew snappers. The ice cream menu features more than 24 flavors.
Fudge, turtles, taffy and more satisfy visitors at Country Store The sweet aroma of fudge, made with Wisconsin cream and butter, or peanut brittle bubbling away in a copper kettle welcomes customers as they enter the “sweetest place in town,” Country Store. For many years, stopping in at Country Store in downtown Eagle River has been a tradition of many families. Dick and Debbie Preuhs thank all their loyal customers for their support as they continue in their 29th summer as owners. A commitment to quality is one of the reasons Country Store has won awards for its chocolate walnut fudge, caramel corn and cashew snappers.
Though fudge and turtles are customer favorites, there are many other great candies and chocolates available. Toffee, almond bark and chocolate pretzels also are popular. One of the largest selections of sugar-free chocolates is available for those with special dietary needs. Continuing to be popular this year, cinnamontoasted almonds, pecans and cashews are made right at the store. Country Store has expanded its line of saltwater taffy and has many fun-filled types of candy. It also stocks nostalgic brands of candy for the child in everyone. After customers purchase their candy, they can
cool down with a refreshing ice-cream cone, sundae, malt or soda. Customers have more than 24 flavors to choose from, and can get a chocolate-dipped cone or a chocolate-sprinkled cone. Children can enjoy a special treat of sitting at the store’s “children only” table. In fall, it’s time to begin the caramel apple season. “As customers anticipate the first apple of the season, they often remind us they are the best caramel apples they have ever tasted,” said owner Debbie Preuhs. When people start to head home after vacation, gifts of candy from Country Store is a great way to say
thank-you, or a wonderful remembrance of time spent in Eagle River. “Customers tell us all the time they need to bring home Country Store treats for their families, friends or co-workers who are always requesting it,” said Debbie Preuhs. “Even the family dog is happy to get our special dog bones.” Don’t forget about Country Store at Christmas. The Country Store staff is able to help with gifts for family, friends and corporate associates. Order early because Country Store gets very busy around this season. Located at 116 E. Wall St., Country Store is open daily year-round. Call (715) 479-9226 or visit the website at ercandy.com.
The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Bureau of Law Enforcement recently issued a special edition of a Warden Wire feature dealing with paddleboard use. The edition takes on the format of frequently asked questions. These questions were taken by wardens on the beat and the DNR call center, which is staffed daily, from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 1-(888) 936-7463. Question 1: I am going to try paddleboarding in a couple of weeks on a Wisconsin trip with friends. Is it true I need a life jacket when I paddleboard? Answer: Yes, paddleboards are considered boats. The law states you do need to have a life jacket with you when you enjoy the stand-up paddleboards. Make sure you pack a life jacket or rent one before you hit the water. The DNR wants you to have fun — and to be safe — while you are paddleboarding. Question 2: Why do I need a life jacket? It’s not like it’s a canoe. It’s just a floating board. Answer: Knowing that more than 90% of boat fatalities related to drowning involve victims not wearing life jackets, you need one for your safety. You also need one because Wisconsin law, as well as U.S. Coast Guard law, treats paddleboards the same as kayaks and canoes. This means there must be a personal flotation device (PFD) for each person on board. However, the best way to obey this law and to ensure your safety is to just wear the life jacket. Question 3: Paddleboards look like fun, but since I've never done it before, I’m wondering what other tips the wardens recommend for novice paddleboarders like me? Answer: The tips are the same for a novice like you and anyone who is experienced. Those tips from the DNR conservation wardens are these: Stay within
State safety officials say that wearing a life jacket is a must while paddleboarding. —STAFF PHOTO
your skills and abilities. Don’t go paddleboarding alone. Watch the weather. Take the time to educate yourself about this water activity. The U.S. Coast Guard also offers these tips for paddleboarders: Be a competent swimmer, know how to self-rescue, know how to tow another board, know the local regulations and navigation rules, understand the elements and hazards, know when to wear a leash, and take a safety course. Question 4: The last tip says take a safety course. Where do I find one? Answer: The Wisconsin DNR offers a free online paddling safety course for new paddlers to learn the basics and as a great refresher for experienced paddlers. The course does not certify a person to operate a motorboat but is a great learning tool. To locate the course, as well as other useful information about preparing yourself for fun and safety on your paddleboard and other vessels, visit dnr.wi.gov.

Northwoods Art Tour set The Northwoods Art Tour will be held Friday through Sunday, July 2628, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. throughout Vilas, Oneida, Lincoln, Langlade and Iron counties. More than 30 artists will open the doors of their studios and galleries for self-guided tours. A diverse variety of original work will be on display to view and purchase directly from regional painters, potters, photographers, furniture makers, book binders, woodcarvers, jewelers, and glass and fiber artists. “This is the 14th year the Northwoods Art Tour
artists have issued their special invitation to the public,” said an event organizer Arlene Bozicnik. Joining the tour for the first time are Florian Bieschke of Atelier Book Bindery in Arbor Vitae; Linda Polarski of Polarski Cedar Products in Three Lakes showing carved furniture; David Kapszukiewicz of Kaps Fine Art in Tomahawk presenting oil painting; Jack and Chris Stayer of Sand Lake Trading Co. in Lac du Flambeau creating stained and fused glass; and art from the area’s newest gallery, Northern Memories Fine
Art and Gifts in downtown St. Germain. Visitors may be invited to participate in workshop opportunities at some of the studios. What makes a great-tasting pizza every time? What makes a great pizza? Tradition. The old ways still work, and all good cooking starts with the basics. Quality food starts with the ingredients. Only the finest ingredients should be used, starting from the bottom up, to ensure satisfied customers who come back time after time for the best pizza around. The first ingredient for any pizza is dough. It should be made with flour that is high gluten, the highest quality flour, Amber Durham wheat — the finest of all wheats, cane sugar and only the best yeast. It must be made fresh, never frozen. The dough should then be thrice raised, which takes 36 hours. This ensures the best dough possible. Pear tomato puree is the main ingredient for the next layer, the sauce. Pear tomatoes are one of the best on the market because they contain the maximum of tomato solids. The best of domestic and imported spices would then be blended to create a uniquely superb sauce with a savory taste. In Wisconsin, cheese is a very important ingredient for pizza. All the cheese used should be 100% Wisconsin full cream moz-
zarella, without one gram of artificial cheese, for the fullest flavor. A superb pizza also contains the best meat. The sausage should be 100% meat, 90% lean whole hog, blended with the finest spices for a delectable taste sure to please even the most discriminating of palates. The pepperoni should also be 100% meat, 90% lean, aged to perfection to enhance the flavor, sure to please all pepperoni lovers. Other toppings available must also be high quality. Only the best onions should be used, including Vadalia, Walla Walla, Texas 10/15, and sweet red Bermuda onions. These create a mouthwatering addition to any pizza. Green peppers must be mixed slightly with the sweetest red bell peppers for an appetizing way to liven up a pizza. California black olives also add a savory taste. For a wild appetite, sweet succulent pineapple, crispy vitamin-rich broccoli, tender flaky solid white albacore, or luscious shrimp could be added. At Alexander’s Pizza, these basics have created a tradition of quality food,
which has made the restaurant the most popular pizza stop for residents and vacationers alike. In addition, when all the ingredients are being artfully combined, nobody wants to think of a dirty kitchen or unsanitary conditions. But never fear, for Alexander’s Pizza has the cleanest kitchen you’ll find. In fact, it would even be clean enough to perform surgery. Of course, an aesthetically pleasing environment is also needed to enjoy the full pleasure of eating delicious pizza. Alexander’s Pizza offers a clean, relaxing environment with friendly service and a casual atmosphere. Games and pool are also available to entertain the kids while the food is being prepared to order. Where do you get pizza made with care and concern? Alexander’s Pizza — that’s where. Alexander’s Pizza is located on Railroad Street in downtown Eagle River. Call (715) 479-7363, and your pizza will be ready when you arrive. Alexander’s Pizza is the place for you. For great pizza in Minocqua, call (715) 3562628. ADVERTISEMENT

Big Sand Lake Golf Course in Phelps offers a peaceful but challenging course for golfers of all ability levels. The course
is one of the oldest in northern Wisconsin. It’s located seven miles east of Phelps.
Challenging golf course found at Big Sand Lake Overlooking Smoky Lake, Big Sand Lake Golf Course in Phelps is one of the oldest golf courses in northern Wisconsin. According to superintendent Jim Burton, it’s one of the most peaceful, yet challenging courses in the area. Big Sand Lake Golf Course was founded in 1928 by the Eagle River Fish and Game Club. The clubhouse building was originally a horse barn, donated to the golf club by Charles V. Barrett Sr. in
1930. The barn was moved to its current location and remodeled. Today, the course is cared for by Burton, who has managed the course for many years. The course is relatively flat and has no water, but according to golf course staff, it is far from easy. Sand traps, small greens, hole positions, doglegs and trees make the course challenging enough to keep players of all abilities on top of their game. Vacationers and local
residents from the surrounding communities of Eagle River, Land O’ Lakes and Iron River, Mich., come to test their skills at Big Sand Lake. To traverse this 3,085yard, par-36 course, golf carts and pull carts are available for rent. Rates are $2.50 for pull carts and $15 for motor carts. Golf clubs are available for rent. Snacks, soda and beer are offered to golfers in the clubhouse. The course is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
No tee times are required. Nine holes cost $15 on weekdays and $18 Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Twilight rates are featured after 4:30 every day. Twilight golf is $11 weekdays and $14 Saturdays, Sundays and holidays. Visa, MasterCard and Discover are accepted. Big Sand Lake Golf Course is located seven miles east of Phelps on Big Sand Lake Club Road off Highway 17. Call (715) 5452484 for more information.

Grandma’s Toy Box home to games, puzzles “I chose the name ‘Grandma’s Toy Box’ because I wanted to offer lots of the classic toys like those someone might find if they opened their own grandmother’s toy box,” said store owner Kathy Holperin. True to its name, Grandma’s Toy Box has hundreds of timeless toys like jack-in-the-box, slinky, pogo sticks, Jacob’s ladder, goofy glasses, kaleidoscopes, potato guns, balancing eagles and many, many more. Grandma’s Toy Box carries all the new stuff, too. They are an independent dealer of several namebrand toys like Bruder Trucks, Thomas the Train, Folkmanis Puppets and Melissa and Doug. Just this summer the store added a full line of the LEGObrand of building block toys. LEGOs and DUPLOs are now on display next to Erector Sets and Lincoln Logs. “Ordering new toys is kind of a harmless addiction for me,” Holperin confided, “So I never stop.” “The first thing people see when they come in the door is our game and puzzle section,” said Holperin. “I’ve arranged most of the stock in order from toddler to adult to make it easier for shoppers to choose for an age-appropriate game or puzzle.” A “try-it-out table” of windup toys is usually surrounded by kids . . . until they see the stufffed animal and puppet section in the back of the store. “They have to walk past the water blaster and beach toy area first, so some kids don’t make it,” Holperin joked. One of the most interesting sections at Grandma’s Toy Box is the rock department that Holperin inherited from her father’s former business, Bauer’s Rock Shop. Rock hounds of all ages are delighted to

Benson Builders enhances customer services with new model home and design center Benson Builders in Land O’ Lakes has developed a reputation for building landmark homes throughout the North Woods. Now, a new model home and design center will build on that stature. From majestic full-log and timber-frame homes to conventionally framed homes, additions and renovations, Benson Builders is dedicated to creating homes with distinctive “up north” detailing. While the building firm got its roots here in 1977, over the past three years Benson Builders has made a number of improvements in its effort to remain the premier builder in the North Woods. The company focus has been to enhance their design capabilities and customer communications, improve cost control, offer more material and product options to their customers and provide expanded post-construction services. Leading the Benson team in enhancing customer and design services is Bill Bye, who joined the firm as the new chief operating officer. He has spent more than 25 years in the residential construction industry, focusing on custom luxury homes “While we move forward on these fronts, we have steadfastly maintained our commitment to unsurpassed quality and customer service,” said Bye. “We have done this by having the best employees to ensure the highest-quality fit and finish on every one of our projects, having exacting construction standards and using the best quality material.” The new model and design center, set to open this fall on Highway 45 just south of Highway B, offers a state-of-the-art facility that showcases the latest in home design, materials and automation. The design center features interactive samples of everything from roofing, siding, stonework and windows
that customers can mix and match to see how they fit together. Visitors also can see and touch a vast sampling of flooring, wall finishes, windows, cabinets and more. “When viewing the model home, you will be able to see firsthand that Benson Builders truly does provide the highest-quality fit and finish to every aspect of the project, and our uncompromising dedication to the tiniest of details that make all the difference in the realization of your North Woods dream home,” said Bye. In improving their design capabilities, Benson Builders has enhanced the software to be able to provide customers 3D modeling and real-time design changes. They also have updated all of their computers and CAD capabilities to provide customers with the latest in preconstruction interior and exterior interactive modeling. New graphic capabilities provide realistic visuals interpretation of plans. Benson Builders understands the importance of communication with their customers as an essential part of the building process. They now send construction progress pictures to customers on a weekly basis so they can see what’s happening while they are out of town. The company also has brought some of the best tradesmen in the North Woods under the Benson Builders umbrella through three new companies: Cutting Edge Paint & Stain, Logix Home Electronics and Premier Masonry. These new companies have expanded customer options and offerings of everything from exterior products to flooring, wall finishes, cabinetry and home automation. The relationship with Benson Builders doesn’t end when a project is completed. They have enhanced their post-construction services and do everything from simple repairs to full remodels
Benson Builders in Land O’ Lakes specializes in building custom homes, including rustic log and timber homes and conven-
and additions to constructing a garage for all of those North Woods toys. “For our new and existing customers, we handle anything from small items like screen or window replacements to repainting and staining interiors or exteriors, installing or repairing stonework and tilework and adding security systems,” said Bye. Benson Builders’ talented team possesses unique abilities that have helped them earn the respect of their customers, subcontractors and suppliers, as well as that of fellow contractors in the North Woods. A number of their homes have been featured in national magazines, including Log Home Living, Log Homes Illustrated, Distinctive Wood Homes, Log Home Design Ideas and Cabin Life, with a recent home project to be featured in Traditional Home Magazine. Bye says referrals account
for the majority of Benson’s business. “Our greatest satisfaction is knowing that our source for new customers is by word of mouth from our past customers,” he said. “Our customers are very proud to show their new home to their friends. It gives us a sense of pride in knowing that our dedication to our high craftsmanship standards and customer service is unmatched.” Benson Builders also feels strongly about the importance of community involvement. When Habitat for Humanity built homes in Eagle River and Land O’ Lakes, they became aware of the need for coordination of qualified tradespeople and jumped in to help. Visitors can stop by the current office at 5357 Highway B in Land O’ Lakes, call (715) 547-3941, email info@bensonbuildersllc.com or visit the website at bensonbuildersllc.com.

Vacations not limited to beach chairs, hammocks Vilas County promotes many other outdoor options People on vacation relax in different ways — biking along a lakefront trail, walking a birding trail, hiking through the woods or sitting on the beach. That’s why Vilas County’s Tourism & Publicity Department aims to make sure visitors know about all the ways they can stay active when they visit, according to Executive Director Cindy Burzinski. “We work hard to provide travelers with resources for all our recreational offerings,” she said. “For example, in our visitor guide, you can find maps of more than 50 trails in Vilas County.” Vilas County offers miles and miles of great cycling routes, and the county’s 12 communities have worked together to enhance and promote these unique trails, including the Heart of Vilas County Hike & Bike Trail, a 23-mile paved trail that loops through Boulder Junction, Sayner/Star Lake and St. Germain. Local communities and groups have worked hard to develop individual and connected trail segments and, along with Vilas County Tourism & Publicity, promote the trails as a shared asset throughout the county. There are also plenty of recreational opportunities for those who want to explore the area’s lakes and rivers, and the county has just launched the On the Water in Vilas County Sweepstakes to draw attention to those opportunities. The sweepstakes, which runs through Aug. 30, will award one grand-prize winner a trip to Vilas County that includes a full-

day kayak or stand-up paddleboard rental. “Vilas County is home to more than 1,300 lakes and 73 rivers and streams, making us the premiere destination for outdoor water activities,” said Burzinski. “This sweepstakes was designed to keep recreational options such as paddleboarding or kayaking topof-mind with visitors planning to come here.” Whether they’re relaxing or spending the day on the trails, there’s no doubt visitors are coming to Vilas County. In 2012, travelers spent $195.4 million in Vilas County, the most of any county in northern Wisconsin. Visitor spending also helped support 1,640 full-time jobs in the county in 2012. To find these resources and much more about staying active on your Vilas County vacation, visit vilas.org.

Environmental education, nature programs offered at Trees For Tomorrow in Eagle River Unbiased information about Wisconsin’s natural resources and environmental issues is often hard to find. But not at Trees For Tomorrow in Eagle River. “Our entire staff is dedicated to delivering balanced, objective information on the management and use of trees, forests and other natural resources,” said Maggie Bishop, executive director of the accredited nonprofit natural resources specialty school. That, in fact, is the school’s mission. And, since 1944, Trees For Tomorrow has reached more than 200,000 elementary, high school and college students from throughout the Great Lakes region, and adults from all over the nation. “We promise ‘A Natural Resources Education Experience that Lasts a Lifetime!’ It’s not uncommon for us to hear from former students who say their
time at Trees changed their lives,” Bishop said. Groups of students come to the Trees For Tomorrow campus and stay for workshops that last from two days to a week. Students spend much of their time outdoors participating in hands-on activities that help them learn about Wisconsin’s natural resources. In the winter, they learn to ski and snowshoe. In warmer months, they explore the outdoors on foot or in canoes. All the while, they learn about ecology, forest management, water resources, soils, wildlife and other environmental topics. “The best part about being on the Trees For Tomorrow trip was definitely getting the opportunity to experience nature firsthand,” a West Salem High School student wrote recently. “It is one thing sitting in a biology or ecology class learning about all of

these amazing things in our world, but getting out there and actually seeing and doing them is a great privilege. In a world where many teenagers are consumed by ‘screen time’ whether that be a computer, TV or some other electronic, it seems as if we do not get a chance to experience it enough.” Placing the students in direct contact with the resources that support human needs helps them gain the knowledge and skills that help them make responsible lifestyle choices, Bishop said. Trees For Tomorrow also offers classes for teachers and adults (including snowshoe building and nature photography) through the Road Scholars program. Throughout the summer, the school offers free public programs on Tuesday evenings, family pro-
grams on Tuesday mornings and Youth Outdoor Adventure Series day camp for youth ages 8-12 on Thursdays. Annual public events include Spring Celebration on the second Saturday in April and Forest Fest — a celebration of all that the forest has to offer — on the first Saturday in August. Trees For Tomorrow’s “Tree Trunk” nature gift shop is open to the public from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday and the school’s interpretive trail is open for exploration any time. Trees For Tomorrow is located at 519 Sheridan St. East, just east of the Vilas County Courthouse. Classic Wooden Boat Show planned on Lake Minocqua The appeal of wooden boats that once cruised the resort lakes of the North Woods is on display the weekend of July 26-28, when the 21st annual Antique & Classic Wooden Boat Show docks on Lake Minocqua, downtown Minocqua. Headquarters will be The Boathouse. There will be a parade of boats Friday night. Hours are Saturday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The boats have been meticulously restored with the larger ones valued at well more than $100,000. Mahogany hulls gleam with loving care, polished brass reflect the rays of the sun and blue water, and motors rumble with authority. Bret & Frisk will play 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Expected are more than 50 antique, classic and wooden boats that range from utilities to luxury cruisers such as Chris Craft, Gar Wood and Century, which will be berthed at the extensive and remodeled piers of The Boathouse. Some fiberglass boats from the era when they were first introduced will also be there. Among the boats will be Branch Office, a 1961
Shepherd with twin Chrysler 440 V-drives boasting 640-HP and the famous, smooth Shepherd ride. Shepherd Boats were manufactured in Niagaraon-the-Lake, Ontario, Canada, and built to handle the waters of the St. Lawrence Seaway and the Great Lakes. Branch Office was originally part of the Andy Darling Collection and is the only 31-foot open commuter model ever made. The captains will parade their boats at 6:45 p.m. Friday before the crowd gathered for that evening’s Min-Aqua Bats Water-ski Show. The next two days the boats will tie up at The Boathouse docks. A few canoes, smaller craft and woody cars will be on the grassy area and street. The owners will be available to discuss the lines and heritage of their boats. Throughout the day you can see them cruising the Minocqua Chain of Lakes. Due to liability concerns, there are no rides for the public. Concessions will be available both days on the docks to benefit the Multiple Sclerosis Society. Admission to the boat show is free, but donations are welcome.

Red Canoe Coffee Co. offers coffee, espresso at two convenient locations in St. Germain Red Canoe Coffee Co. offers excellent espresso drinks, food, gifts and free Wi-Fi with a unique atmosphere at two locations in St. Germain. The first shop was established in Camp’s SuperValu in July of 2009 and has been a local favorite ever since. It features organic and fair trade coffee and tea, frappés, smoothies and more. “We strive to serve high quality coffee and great espresso drinks,” said owner Leslie Hiller. One of the popular drinks is a signature latte called the Golden Pond. It is made with creamy espresso, steamed milk, Ghiradelli white chocolate, caramel, and is topped with whipped cream. All drinks are available hot or iced. Customers coming in for their morning bakery or grocery shopping love the convenience of having the coffee shop located right in Camp’s SuperValu. There also is a drive-thru window for people on-the-go. Indoor/outdoor seating is available and it is a Wi-Fi hot spot. Hours are consistent with the bakery, 6 a.m. to 2 p.m. seven days a week, Memorial Day through Labor Day. In 2010, Hiller wanted to expand the shop to offer
unique books, gifts and wine. That summer she opened the second location, Red Canoe Cafe and Books. The cafe, located next to Cathy’s Ice Cream on Highway 17, offers a full espresso bar, paninis and soup, specialty gifts and books, and a selection of wines from all over the country and the world. “We concentrate on boutique wineries that are relatively unknown from around the world,” said Leslie. The cafe offers a quaint, inviting atmosphere with comfy armchairs and plentiful seating where customers can sit and relax while using the free Wi-Fi. Customers can order breakfast or lunch from the menu which features homemade quiche, wraps, paninis and soups. Try one of their delicious bakery items such as a blueberrycranberry muffin or a chocolate chip and walnut cookie. The shop sells a large selection of unique gifts and books which changes frequently with new items always coming in. The items featured in the shop are things you wouldn’t find anywhere else. New 3,000-square-foot laser tag arena added to fun at Eagle Falls Adventure Golf Eagle Falls Adventure Golf and Northern Lights Laser Tag is owned and operated by Mark and Karen Cropsey and their children, Zach and Emily, of St. Germain. They have been in the area 16 years, managing vacation properties and rentals. Eagle Falls Adventure Golf Eagle Falls, located in Eagle River, is in its seventh season. The theme of the course is a 1950s fishing camp. Golfers putt their way around a fishing cabin, a bait shop and a fishing dock. “We wanted to create a mini golf course that was challenging and interactive,” said Mark Cropsey. Golfers can make several choices throughout the course. For example, they can cross the river by bridge or stepping stones, descend the ranger tower by stairs or slide, and many holes have multiple options for play. The Cropseys are always working hard to change and improve the course. The landscaping is constantly maintained and updated to keep the course fresh and exciting for golfers. “People discover something new each time they come to the course,” said Mark Cropsey. If you look close, hole No. 5 is in the shape of a giant muskie where you tee off at the tail and putt past the fin rock formations. The muskie’s eye is the cup. “We wanted to build a course that was different from the normal mini golf course,” said Karen Cropsey. “Something symbolic was needed to highlight the area. Therefore, the main rock formation and waterfall features an eagle’s head.” In addition to the cascading waterfalls, the course also includes lakes, rivers and fountains. “We wanted the water
features to really stand out,” explained Mark Cropsey. “The course has 20,000 gallons of water.” After finishing a round, golfers have the chance to win a free game on the 18th hole, humorously called “Nature Calls.” The hole features a talking outhouse that has become a fun feature of the course. The outhouse comments on golfers’ shots and then flushes if a free game is won. Any free passes given by Eagle Falls will never expire, so customers can use them at their own convenience. Eagle Falls Adventure Golf offers discounts to camps, clubs and large groups. Northern Lights Laser Tag This spring, Eagle Falls introduced a whole new activity to their mini golf operation — Northern Lights Laser Tag Arena. Laser tag can be enjoyed by all ages (6 and older is suggested) and the Eagle River laser tag is the only one in the region, according to Mark and Karen Cropsey. Laser tag is essentially a high-tech game of tag or capture the flag where players are challenged to make the most tags on their opponents. The team with the most tags wins. Northern Lights Laser Tag encompasses a 3,000square-foot, multilevel interactive facility where up to 16 people can compete in an exciting team-based or individual game. The fun effects include swirling fog, black lights, music, multilevel play areas and creative themed decorations. After players enter a briefing and vesting chamber, a guide sets up the teams and gives instructions on how to play and use the high-tech phaser and vest. Players then pass through the stargate and find themselves in a fogfilled wooded atmosphere surrounded by the northern

lights. Black lights and adrenaline-pumping music make the forest come to life as players navigate through the forest passageways and maze, sneaking up on and hiding from their opponents. Reservations are welcomed and encouraged for laser tag. More information on mini golf or laser tag can be found on the website at eaglefallsadventuregolf.com.
