Saturday, November 2 Bidwell Mansion The Farm City Harvest Festival CH returns to the grounds of Bidwell O C BR HICO Mansion. We’re especially happy to be present this year to celebrate John Bidwell’s 200th birthday. The festival will be a fun, educational event for the whole family. Buttercup the life-size fiberglass milk cow will be there with cartons of ice cold milk. Discover the many activity stations, and of course a local food vender with tasty items for sale. Come join us rain or shine for this free event celebrating our wonderful agricultural bounty. See more festival details at far right.

Kid’s Day at the CSU, Chico University Farm Thursday, November 7 PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED Location: the 800-acre Paul L. Byrne Agricultural Teaching and Research Center (aka University Farm) Local third graders rotate through 8 to 10 agricultural stations learning about Butte county’s top crops, how to milk a cow, and the importance of pest control. At the water station students learn its importance to our food supply and how agriculture is working to be more water efficient. At the pizza station Chico State student performers act out the ag products needed to create a pizza followed by samples of pizza fresh out of the oven for the third graders.

The Butte County Agriculture Department has brought a pest-detecting dog for the last few years, and his detecting ability is a delight to the group.

Farm City Celebration Agri-Business Bus Tour and Lunch Wednesday, November 6 CSU, Chico University Farm Bus Tour Participants will be treated to a continental breakfast at the Chico State Farm, before boarding five buses to tour five local farms and agricultural businesses. Our stops this year are concentrated in the North Chico area. At the end of the tour everyone will enjoy a lunch of Barrel Cooked Chicken and CWA rice. Tickets are SOLD OUT, please join us next year.

Harvest Festival Saturday, Nov. 2nd, 10 am–2 pm, Bidwell Mansion State Historic Park, 525 Esplanade, Chico

The Harvest Festival is FREE for the whole family Join us at this rain or shine event bringing the farm experience to the city for a community agriculture day. The festival includes fun, agriculturally related hands-on activities, food and lots more. You’ll see tractors on display, 4-H, cattle roping, cow milking, bees, Boy Scout Rope Bridge and more.

We are so fortunate to have this event on the grounds of the Historic Bidwell Mansion as we celebrate John Bidwell’s 200th Birthday! During the festival, visitors can browse through the first floor of the Bidwell Mansion as staff and volunteers will be there to answer questions. The Visitor Center will be open including “The General’s Store” gift shop, exhibit hall and bathrooms. And visit the Carriage House, displaying historic carriages and wagons.

During the festival you’ll also enjoy roping demonstrations, petting zoo, stock dogs, arts and crafts, carriage rides and so much more! See both antique and modern equipment and tractors on display. Don’t forget the free bounce house for the kids!

The diversity of local crops includes nuts, rice, olives, stone fruits, a large variety of fresh vegetables, local meats, cheeses, olive oils and wines. Restaurants are an important market sector for farmers who sell products locally.
