New York City The New School
We live in a time when the culture must catch up to emerging media.
The School of Media Studies is an intellectually rigorous community at the forefront of creative and technological innovation. Our graduate programs are among the first of their kind in the world, having origins in the Center for Understanding Media, established by John Culkin in 1975. Today, we are part of The New School, a comprehensive university that continues to be a force of new narratives and modes of investigation, combining emergent media and contemporary practices to bring

about positive change in the world.
The network of media makers, thinkers, and innovators at the School of Media Studies and the many acclaimed schools and programs throughout The New School represent a diverse set of skills, personal experiences, and professional backgrounds that ignite the creative process and open up new possibilities. Students take courses and collaborate on projects with forwardthinking peers from the university’s world-class graduate programs in the social sciences at The New School for Social Research, art and design at Parsons School of Design, and management and public policy at the Milano School of Policy, Management, and Environment. These critical collaborations and shared experiences inspire fresh thinking and challenge students to operate outside of convention, propelling their
