NEW PATH FOR YOUR FUTURE

Francisca Sanhueza BS Food Studies

“I thought I would take food studies and photography courses to develop my food styling business. Instead, my courses led me to a totally different career path, focusing on food as a vehicle for social justice.”

Francisca Sanhueza worked for a fruit export company and as a food stylist and graduated from culinary school in her native Chile. She says, “Food is my life.”

Finding new inspiration

David Brown

BA Liberal Arts

“Just last week, I struck up a conversation with a Parsons student. We talked for an hour about drawing, design, and innovation. Where else could a liberal arts student have the chance to easily collaborate with a design student? These connections don’t happen anywhere else.

Lifelong New Yorker and avid learner David Brown served in the military and has worked in fields ranging from commercial real estate to textile sales.

LIFE EXPERIENCE matters

“The life experience I brought to The New School improved my education—and I think it added to the classroom. The program made me a better student, a better researcher, and a better writer.”

Ted Kerr, a writer, artist, and activist from Canada, was a student in the Riggio Honors Program for Writing and Democracy, which is open to gifted adult undergraduates. His internship at Visual AIDS in New York City led to a full-time position there.

DESIGNED BY YOU

“I choose the courses that interest me, and my advisor helps me fit them into the degree program I’m designing. It’s exciting to share ideas with students who are one-third my age.”

Seret Scott-Williams left college to join the civil rights movement as a member of the Free Southern Theater. She later worked as an actor on Broadway, a theater director, and a playwright.

TAKE THE NEXT STEP

“I want a good degree that helps me to work for one of the major film studios. I chose The New School for its innovative mix of courses. Students here are on different paths and at different points in our lives, and we learn from one another.

Film lover Jean De Meuron interned at Paramount Pictures and Resolution, assisted the vice president of Public Affairs at Viacom International Media Networks, and worked as a producer in his native Switzerland.

Jean De Meuron

BS Liberal Arts
