HOW TO CELEBRATE GRANDPARENTS’ DAY WITH GRANDKIDS

Grandparents’ Day is Sunday, September 12, and if you’re looking for ways to spend time with your grandkids, there are a ton of different ways you can celebrate your day all month long. Whether you’re looking for free, cheap or if a budget isn’t part of the equation, here are several ways to make this Grandparents’ Day the best yet. If you have grandkids that vary in ages, you can’t go wrong with a nature walk. Florida has several different parks, preserves and lakes that offer great spots for some fun in the sun. Below are a few places perfect for a family outing.

LITTLE MANATEE RIVER STATE PARK:

At $5 per vehicle and located in Wimauma, this state park holds ecosystems unique to its protected area. Hike, bike, canoe or even camp here to experience this designated “outstanding Florida water.”

WEEKI WACHEE:

Located in Spring Hill, this enchanted spring offers the opportunity to take a trip on a riverboat cruise, learn about Florida wildlife, and swim in the pristine waters at Buccaneer Bay. OCALA NATIONAL FOREST:

Nestled between well-known theme parks and white, sandy beaches, the Ocala National Forest attracts visitors worldwide. It features more than 600 lakes and rivers where you can enjoy swimming, fishing, snorkeling, canoeing and boating. From migratory birds and manatees to freshwater springs and some of the world's rarest plants, the Ocala is a haven for people (and animals) to escape to one of Florida's remaining wild places. Or, if you or the kiddos are looking for a fun day full of sunshine, sand and smiles, plan a beach day. Florida has some of the most beautiful beaches in the country, including Sanibel Island, which is great for shelling. Clearwater Beach is an excellent choice for gorgeous water and sugary sands. If you need a break from the beach, the Beach Walk promenade or the pier is perfect for enjoying the ocean air without getting down and dirty in the sand. Search for other beaches in your area online and navigate directly to them! Another great idea for a day with the grandkids is the zoo. Whether you choose one closest to you, or if you’re up for a road trip, Florida has many zoos with both exotic and native animals. Learn more about the critters in your backyard, or find your new favorite animal with your grandkids by your side. Snap a few pictures and immortalize the day forever!
