Quack-tacular Lucky Duck Day

Submitted by Sarah Hardy and Rosemary Maling The SCC Community Campaign Against Human Trafficking (SCC CCAHT) is working to increase awareness and create social change in South Hillsborough County. Florida is one of the top three states for Human Trafficking in the United States. The average age of children being forced into prostitution is age 12 and, if not rescued, their life expectancy is 7 years. Pornography is considered by the FBI to be the element that is fueling this pandemic growth of child sex trafficking and exploitation. We believe human trafficking can be prevented as people are made aware of the crime and understand how traffickers lure vulnerable people into modernday slavery. How can you help spread the word? Get Duck and support the cause! Get involved with the Area Action Group here in SCC. To learn more about what you can do to help raise funds for a child

From Above Life...

The Editor’s Corner Everybody’s Irish on St. Paddy’s

By E. Adam Porter, Editor NOKP On March 17, all across the Western world, people will gather to celebrate the legendary British missionary to Ireland, Padraig (Patrick). History knows that Padraig did exist, but his exploits, told and retold over the centuries by expert Irish storytellers have, like all good stories, grown in the telling. During the 5th Century, Padraig, who, as a teenager, had been taken to Ireland as a slave, returned to Ireland as a missionary. Later in life he would become Bishop of Armagh. In a bit less than two centuries, the former slave who returned to minister to his captors would be widely revered as the Patron Saint of Ireland. Some time between then and now it would become official. For some, the observance of St. Patrick’s Day is a religious occasion, a celebration of the power of forgiveness and Christian love. For most, it is a celebration of Irish culture and an opportunity to have an absolutely blowout party. No matter why or how you choose to celebrate on March 17, it’s a widely repeated adage that “everyone’s Irish on St. Paddy’s.” Maybe, but if you consider the legacy of the Irish people, it’s easy to see how we’re all a bit “Irish” all year round. We’re adopted Patrick was not Irish, but his love for the Irish people earned him an eternal place as a member of Eirinn’s progeny. All of us have friends we consider family. People, though not bound by blood that are tied to us by genuine affection. And, more often than not, we share a story or two we love to tell…and a few that are best left whispered, or entirely unspoken. We’re hospitable Hospitality, particularly on Saint Paddy’s is a traditional Irish trait. Sure, there are

times when we would rather lock our doors and keep to ourselves, but more often than not, a friendly knock on the door or ring of the phone is a welcome diversion from the trials and travails of the typical day. Our homes may not be lavish, but they are livedin and comfortable, and ready for family and friends who come calling. We’re devout While we may or may not be observant of any religion, all of us have something we love to the point of reverence. Something greater than us that we cannot explain. Something that speaks to a deep part of us that nothing else can quite reach. When the Irish sing about Four Green Fields or when they wax poetic about the intricate beauty of the Water of Life (whiskey, for those playing at home) there is a deep significance to these that goes far beyond the sum of the parts. We all have something that fits that description. We’re partiers It goes without saying that the Irish are renowned partiers. Whether they are out dancing or drinking, or a bit of both, Eirinn’s children know how to have a good time. Well, one need only glance at the Club or Bulletin section of this very publication to see that all of Kings Point loves a good party. Each month, when editing your submissions, I lose track of the times I see the words “dance” or “BYOB.” And why not? When you work as hard as you have for as long as you did, there’s every right and endless reasons to tip a glass and cut a rug. I could go on, but all this talk of music and dancing and luscious libations has my Irish eyes smiling. It’s time, I fear, to put down the ol’ coal shovel, find some friends and raise a glass. Slainte!

From first cry...to...last breath soft, unsteady baby steps... turn to...thunderous, deliberate assaults against time. Days quickly gather to form decades; Yesterdays suddenly meld as by-gone years. Ease is dammed behind walls of dis-ease. Every day stress morphs overhead as dark clouds of dis-stress. But an ever-present, soothing calm continues to dance on the air; The challenged are consumed by and sway gently to its rhythm. From beginning to unfinished end, a recognizable, stark, white thread stands out amongst the less vibrant many in a matted, knotted, busy tapestry. Staring into the diverse faces of the challenger, a readily accessible, incomprehensible feeling settles the soul again and again and again. Its moniker and origin, no longer a mystery... Peace.... ©2013 Suzanne S. Austin-Hill

Girls Cruise

Ten gals from Kings Point went on a Girl Friend’s Cruise to the Western Caribbean on the Brilliance of the Seas Jan. 13-18, 2014 departing from Tampa and had a wonderful time. It was something we had planned for months and waited anxiously for the day to arrive...but the time on the ship went too fast. We said our next one has to be at least 7 days long. We left the men home to “keep the home fires burning and to tend to our pets.” The ports of call were George Town, Grand Cayman and Cozumel, Mexico. The gals who enjoyed this wonderful Royal Caribbean cruise were Beth Johnson, Cynthia King, Paula Rezoagli, Pat Phillips, Mary Winter, Diane Laue, Joan Wessinger, Brenda Hartman, Joan Solimeno & Cathleen Gordon.

Dennis Leffin described his tour of Chile, Argentina and Brazil as “eighteen days of beauty and fun!” Here he is with News of Kings Point in Chile.

The Men’s And Women’s Chorus - Twice As Nice

Last year in celebration of the golden anniversary of The Women’s Chorus, the Men’s Chorus wasinvited to be their special guests. Such a grand time was had by chorus and audience members alike, that a“redo” was discussed to celebrate the 2014 golden anniversary of the Men’s Chorus.

Mark your Calendars! The Women’s Chorus, with special guests The Men’s Chorus, will present their concert Sunday, March 23, 2014 at 3:00 p.m.

Perhaps it was “kismet.” During a planning session with presidents of both groups, the directorspresented their music selections. Both had chosen “Broadway” along with “Americana” as a concerttheme: Both were more than willing to work together on a dynamite concert. So what can happen when leadership from both choruses put their heads together to form a plan? It’s nearly a case of “anything goes.” The room

Belvedere Commons Supports Squad

Staff from Belvedere Commons visited the Emergency Squad recently and surprised the crew on duty with a wonderful lunch. They also presented Chief Noreen Schramm with a donation of $300. This support is so very much appreciated said Chief Schramm. “We exist totally on donations from our community.” Without your generosity we could not continue in our mission of “Neighbors Helping Neighbors.”

Sue and Frank Guffin were born and raised in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. They met in 6th grade, married 10 years later, and celebrated their 50th anniversary last year. In 1976 they joined the volunteer Fire Department in Northfield Village, Ohio and became Firefighters/EMT’s. One of their most memorable calls was bringing a 4-month-old infant back to life with no complications. After retirement in 2002 they set their sights on Sun City Center. What really sealed the deal to more here was the ability to pick up with our volunteer Emergency Squad. Sue and frank joined Team 3 and have been on that Team for the past 10 years. When Sue is relaxing she can be found cooking, crafting or cruising at her pool. Frank can be found at his piano, organ, or keyboard working on his music. They are very happy being part of the Squad family and the Squad is honored to have such a committed and dedicated couple on the staff. Both Frank and Sue said, “We are delighted with the opportunity to serve. Having spent half a lifetime making little positive differences has really enhanced our contentment.”

Seventh Annual Triangular Golf Tournament Submitted by Judy Fenwick

Scepter hosts the seventh annual ladies triangular golf tournament on April 1st. No, this is not an April Fools Joke, just a competition. The triangular tournament started in 2008. The first year it was played at Falcon Watch, with teams from Falcon Watch, North Lakes and Caloosa competing. It was renamed the “Kris Wells Triangular” in 2012 after its founder, who is still involved in tournament details. The tournament rotates each year among the three main golf clubs in Sun City. Reflecting some demographic changes, the team from North Lakes, also known as the Women’s Golf Association (WGA), is now a combined team representing Sandpiper and Renaissance. The Falcon Watch Team has combined with Scepter. Only Caloosa Country Club is still Caloosa. The game has always been best ball, net stroke play by 18 twowomen teams from each club. The rules of competition have been tweaked for this year’s tournament, so competition should be intense. A celebratory luncheon at Falcon Watch Cafe, camaraderie and trophy presentation follow the competition. The trophy is presented to the club whose teams compile the overall lowest net score. Prizes are also awarded to the top scorers from all three clubs. Golfers are encouraged to get a partner and sign-up at their respective clubs. Scepter ladies are looking forward to hosting this year’s tournament by providing the golfers a great challenge on its 18-hole course. The Scepter planning committee from left to right isShirley Vilinsky, Kris Wells, Judy Fenwick, Judie Schafers and Carolyn Avrett.

The ladies Suncoaster Lawn Bowling Club completed their singles tournament on Monday, February 10, 2014. The ladies tournament this year was very competitive overall. Many of the matches leading to the finals on Monday were very close and exciting to watch. The final match was no exception with every end either tied or separated by only one point. The final match took a little over three hours to complete and was a pleasure to watch. The finals winner was Linda Hawken. The runner up was Carol Fahnestock.

Women’s Suncoasters VS Men’s Pebble Beach Lawn Bowling Club

The men’s Pebble Beach lawn bowling club wins the 2014, challenge match against the women’s Suncoasters Club. There were eight matches played in all between these two clubs this year. The men’s club won five matches and the women’s club won three. Each year since 2008, the annual challenge has become more competitive. However, the men’s Pebble Beach Club has managed to win all the annual tournaments. Receiving the trophy for the men’s club is Rick Czachor, Rick Czachor & Annette Dispenziere Pebble Beach president. Presenting the trophy is Annette Dispenziere, President of the Suncoasters LBC.

The Kings Point Duplicate Bridge Association (KPDBA) hosted another exciting and fun filled evening at its annual Bridge Banquet. FunFest 2014 Promises a Fun-Filled Day

By Phyllis Hodges FunFest 2014 is only a few weeks away. On March 15, the Community Association Central Campus, 1009 N. Pebble Beach Blvd., will be filled with thousands of people seeking several hours of merriment with entertainment, exhibits and food. The fun starts promptly at 9 a.m. with an opening ceremony at the bandstand and concludes at 3 p.m. This is the day Sun City Center invites the public to a showcase of its “active senior lifestyle.” Admission is free. What’s New A lot of things about FunFest stay the same because they have been proven good over the last 14 years of FunFest celebrations. However, the committee is always looking for ways to improve SCC largest community event. This year, for FunFest #15, the Main Tent for entertainment will be moved across Cherry Hills Blvd. to the east side of the Arts and Crafts Center. The shift allows rearrangement of club and vendor displays to make all of them accessible by sidewalk. There will also be a wider variety of food offerings and several new performers. Capitol Display A special feature this year will be the presence of a U.S. Capitol model created by Don Crescent and Shirley Carroll in the Heritage Room (outside entrance from west side of Atrium). This will be the first time the public is being given the opportunity to see the 9’ x 5’ model Don and Shirley have been working on for 3-1/2 years. It’s fantastic—don’t miss it! Health Fair Vendors at the Health Fair will be offering information on health services and performing various tests in the Caper and Horizon room in the Atrium. Mobile units participating will be parked just outside the door on the Atrium’s east side. Food/Clubs/Community Groups Over 100 clubs and community organizations will be on hand, offering food, information and unique handmade craft creations. Most of the club rooms on campus will be open welcoming visitors. Entertainment Elvis (aka Bill Lindsey), The Dukes and Solid Gold will be returning for two performances in the Main Tent. Wonders of Nature, always popular, will have two shows in the Florida Room. Displays by Elmira’s Wildlife Refuge, C.A.R.E. and Manatee Viewing Center will be located outside the Arts and Crafts Building; and numerous SCC clubs and performers will be in the Rollins Theater, Dance Studio, Lap Pool and Pool Side. Performance locations and times will be listed in The Observer News (March 12 edition) and in a handout distributed by greeters at the event. Shuttles/Parking All drivers, including vendors, should be aware that Cherry Hills will be closed to all traffic after 8:30 a.m. Golf carts are encouraged and there will be

Thousands will gather on the CA Central Campus for a fun-filled FunFest 2014 on March 15.

The Information Center parking lot is reserved for handicapped golf cart parking and/or drop-off. For easier parking, visitors are urged to park at the SCC Community Hall on S. Pebble Beach and ride the shuttle buses. The free transportation starts at 8:45 a.m. from Community Hall, with the last bus departing FunFest at 3:30 p.m. Sponsors This event would not be possible without sponsors. Kings Point Quilters Issued a Food Quilt Challenge

The Kings Point Quilters were issued a challenge to create a quilt showingtheir favorite food and to include the recipe. The quilt could be any size up tothirty six inches square using any technique . This challenge seemed easyenough, just think of all your favorite recipes. Now all one had to do was to headto the local quilt shop, buy the materials and get started. Easier said than done. Think of your favorite food and try recreating that with fabric. I like spaghettiand meatballs for example. The meatballs could be easy to make, but how to showthe spaghetti without it looking like a stuck together plate of starch. Scrap thespaghetti and meatball idea. Maybe this challenge isn’t going to be the piece ofcake it first sounded like. Now there’s an idea, cake. This is going to take someserious thinking. After many trials and lots of scrapped ideas the day finally arrived whenthe masterpieces were to be judged by the King Point quilt club members. Wow,what a variety of food quilts appeared. There was a banquet fit for a king. Members cast their votes and the three winners announced. Third place went to Connie Castro for her Apple Pie and Tea. This is an all time favorite dessert.Second place was Mary Chabot’s very colorful entry for Chicken Santa Fe. Firstplace was awarded to Jane Scully for her Lo Cal Banana Split. The nuts for example were made from wine cork. Guess wine was needed while making this quilt. If anyone is interested in joining the Kings Point Quilters call Sandy Nunn 813-642-8961. New members always welcome. The quilters meet Monday 9AM-3PM at the Kings Point Craft Room. Stop by anytime, they love to show off their beautiful work.

Men’s Club Visits Tampa Bay History Center Photo by Gary Bowman

In November 2013, representatives from the Tampa Bay History Center (TBHC) spoke at the Men’s Club monthly meeting. Woodcarvers Score Trifecta

Members of the SCC Woodcarving Club recently were competitors in the 2014 Florida Winter National Wood Art Expo and Competition held in Punta Gorda January 11 & 12. This is one of the premier woodcarving shows in the country and there were 450 individual carvings entered in the competition. Most Woodcarving competitions award a blue ribbon award for a first place finish, where each carving is evaluated by a team of judges and scored against standards such as detail, design, creativity, execution etc. The SCC Woodcarvers won 15 blue ribbons during the judging conducted on Friday 10 January. However there is another very coveted award called the Best in Show to distinguish among competitors awarded a blue ribbon on their individual merit. The competition for the best of show award is intense. The judges’ reconvened on Saturday morning to select the best of the best. Three SCC Woodcarvers entries were a finalist for best in show in their categories. Although not winning the coveted best in show award, our team was thrilled to be a finalist in this major competition and can’t wait until next year. Saint Anne Celebrates Fifth Anniversary

February 14 is a very special day for Saint Anne Catholic Church in Ruskin. It was on that date in 2009 that the dedication ceremony for the new church was held. On Saturday, February 15, after the 4:30 PM Mass, a new sign, donated by a generous parishioner, was blessed and dedicated by Very Rev. John F. McEvoy, V.F., Pastor. Parishioners hope that the lighted sign will serve as an inviting landmark at the corner of US 41 and 11th Ave N. E. in Ruskin. The fifth anniversary observance continued the following morning when Fr. McEvoy conducted the groundbreaking ceremony for the new Saint Anne Food Pantry. Assisting in the ceremony were parishioners Bill Richards, Sr., who was responsible for keeping the food pantry in continuous operation for more than 20 years, and Paul Wiskotoni, who assumed the responsibilities when Mr. Richards retired in July of 2012. This larger facility will not only address the increasing physical needs for storage and distribution, but will better accommodate the more than 400 families that are currently served by the volunteer crew each week. The food pantry is located on the parish grounds at 106 11th Ave. N. E. in Ruskin. Additional information may be found on the Saint Anne website at www.SaintAnneRuskin.org.

Paula Lickfeldt Named“Woman Of The Year” Award Designated by Committee at United Community Church

Submitted by Hazel M. Martin UCC is very fortunate to have an “official woman’s organization.” We are blessed with three circles. The women in the circles individually vote for their choice of “Woman of the Year.” Paula Lickfeldt was an overwhelming choice. Paula has been active on the Volunteer Emergency Squad for ten years. She started as an Emergency Medical Responder on the ambulance. She was the squad’s lead first responder for two years making her responsible for the communication between the first responders and the Board of Directors in this leadership position. After passing the Emergency Vehicle Operator Course, Paula has been driving the wheel chair van for the past four years. Paula has been a leader on the board of directors of her Red Hat Group, The Purple Butterflies. She helps plan and execute all of the monthly activities and travel for the group. Paula is an active member of the Sun City Center Federated Woman’s Club. Paula loves going to the garage sales and estate sales. She carries her list and finds items that her friends say they are looking for. She also finds items of value for the United Community Church and the missions that they support. Paula is a very active member of the United Community Church. She has been a deacon for three terms, and team captain for one of those terms. She has

been and currently still is in charge of support responsibilities for all Memorial Services at the church. She has been on the annual Nominating Committee

three times. She has been an active member of the Mission Board. Paula decorates the tables in the Great Hall, changing the themes monthly. She

now handles publicity and photography for the church. Paula is a co-chair of the Fantastic Friday dinner theatre. Paula also created and organized the Fun Brigade. She decided that the church needed to have some sort of “fun” activity each month so she set about organizing and advertising these activities for the church members and the citizens of the greater SCC area. She planted and maintains the flower garden at the entrance to the parking lot. She counts the money in the offering envelopes. She is a member of the Church Council. Paula loves the United Community Church, United Church of Christ, for what it represents and for the opportunities that it provides for the Sun City Center community to worship, find companionship and have a good time in a beautiful facility where everyone is welcome. She is a truly dedicated social director for a church that she cares deeply about. In conclusion, Paula is a beautiful, yet private light for those in need. When she and her husband hear that someone needs help in any way, they set out to satisfy the need. Paula is truly a joy-when she finds out about a hospitalization or rehab she is there with visits, gifts and smiles. Is Paula a beacon of light? Indeed! She is a beacon of light, moonlight, sunshine and our star.

Is Your Computer Open to Thieves?

Byers Carolers

by Matilda Charles

March, 2014

By Larry Cox

If you’re a senior with a computer, do you know the answers to these questions? What is a keystroke logger? Why should your operating system be set for automatic updates? If you don’t know the answers, your computer could be at risk for a security breach. Here are the answers: A keystroke logger is a spy program that logs each keystroke you make and sends the information to someone else. Your operating system should be set up for automatic updates because those updates will contain security features you need. Your best bet: Take the computer to the store where you bought it (or to the Geek Squad at Best Buy) and have them do a little work on it. Your list of requests: 1. Scan for viruses; 2. Turn on your firewall; 3. Get the latest operating system updates and set it to automatic; 4. Install a good virus protection; 5. Set your system to be very secure as you wander the Internet. Here’s why I suggest the Geek Squad: If you buy the annual plan and something goes wrong, you can call them on the phone for advice. If it’s a complicated fix, you can give them verbal permission to get into your computer remotely. Your next step is to find a teacher who can show you all the safety and security problems with the Internet. In general, here are some activities to avoid online: Quizzes (even if they offer prizes), giving your real name and any information about where you live, social networking sites, dating sites, clicking on links in email and agreeing to sign up on sites like LinkedIn. For more information, go online to aarp.org, click Home & Family, then Personal Technology. Q: My wife has a collection of 25 to 30 Byers Carolers, all in original boxes and in good condition. We have downsized and are looking to sell them. Do you know of anyone in the secondary market who deals in them? -- Ralph, Coventry, R.I. A: I made several calls, and it seems that no one I contacted is in the market to buy Byers Carolers. I next monitored eBay, where several dozen are posted for sale. This might be your best bet. In my opinion, the Byers Carolers that I’ve seen are of fairly recent vintage, most from the 1990s. In other words, I don’t think these Christmas caroler figurines are quite old or rare enough to be in much demand with serious collectors. Q: I have a collection of more than 100 salt and pepper shakers. Although I don’t have plans to liquidate, I am nevertheless interested in current values. -- Sue, Rio Rancho, N.M. A: There are several excellent price guides that should be helpful. One that I’ve found easy to navigate is “Antique Trader Salt & Pepper Shaker Price Guide” by Mark F. Moran and published by Krause. It features more than 1,000 S&Ps made by more than 40 makers, including American Bisque, Ceramic Arts Studio, Fenton, Goebel, Westmoreland and A.H. Heisey & Company. Although there are always exceptions, the S&P’s I’ve spotted in shops and at antiques malls have been priced in the $3-$5 range. Q: My dad was a big Harry Truman fan, and I have several political items related to his political campaigns. One of the more unusual things is a “Harry Truman for President” license plate. Any value? -- Tom, Fenton, Mo. A: I found the license plate referenced in several price guides, and it appears to be worth about $750. Q: I have a Montblanc fountain pen, the 432 Stylographic. It is black and was manufactured sometime before World War II. -- Steve, Albuquerque, N.M. A: Your pen should be black with an inlay white star on the cap crown. From 1937, it is valued at about $300, according to “Collecting Pens” by Edward Kiersh and published by House of Collectibles. Write to Larry Cox in care of King Features Weekly Service, P.O. Contract Bridge Super Crossword

MOUNTAIN OPENINGS

The play of the cards in most deals is relatively simple. Both sides do all they reasonably can to accomplish their goal, and the play follows a predictable course. But there are some hands that are not so simple, where a player must do something strikingly unusual to achieve the best result. Such hands are comparatively rare, but are of particular interest when they occur. Consider this deal from a teamof-four match where, at both

Solutions on Page 35

tables, South got to four spades and West led the queen of hearts. At the first table, East took the queen with the ace and shifted to his singleton club. Declarer won the club in dummy and returned a trump, East playing the ten, South the queen and West the ace. West returned a club, ruffed by East, and declarer later lost another trump trick to West’s nine for down one. At the second table, East also won the heart lead with the ace and returned a club. Declarer took the club in dummy and led a trump, just as at the first table. But when East produced the ten of spades, this declarer played the deuce from his hand! As a result of this remarkable play, South could not be stopped from making the contract. South’s duck of the ten of spades, though highly unusual, was extremely well-reasoned. He recognized that if West had three trumps to the ace, which to him seemed likely, it would be suicide to cover the ten with the queen in view of the impending club ruff. He was perfectly willing to lose two spade tricks, but not three. Of course, South could not be absolutely certain of how the missing trumps were divided, but he backed his judgment to the hilt and came away with flying colors. © 2014 King Features Synd., Inc.

Strange But True

By Samantha Weaver • It was novelist, poet and playwright Gertrude Stein who made the following sage observation: “Everybody knows if you are too careful, you are so occupied in being careful that you are sure to stumble over something.” • Some people enjoy novelty when dining out, but restaurateurs take a big risk when adding new items to a menu; it seems that less than a third of diners will actually try a new menu item. • Two-thirds of all Tony awardwinning composers and lyricists have been Jewish. • Everyone knows you should not drive while under the influence of alcohol, but riding a bike? A stationary bike? It seems that in Tennessee in 2007, a woman was arrested at her gym while riding an exercise bicycle while drunk. BUI, or simply disorderly conduct? The record isn’t clear. • If insects give you the creepycrawlies, you might not want to read the following tidbit: Researchers have discovered a kind of caterpillar that emits a sound eerily like a human scream. This particular species is often a victim of predatory wasps. When the wasps approach, the caterpillar rubs two special organs together to produce the sound. The “scream” calls a troop of ants that protect the caterpillar, and in return the caterpillar secretes an amino acid that the ants need. • The name of the state of Vermont comes from the French “mont vert,” which means “green mountain.” (If the explorers who named the state saw green mountains, they obviously were not there in the winter.) Thought for the Day: “I don’t trust a man who uses the word evil 18 times in 10 minutes. If you’re half evil, nothing soothes you more than to think the person you are opposed to is totally evil.” -- Norman Mailer © 2014 King Features Synd., Inc.

Salome’s Stars

ARIES (March 21 to April 19) Try to say as little as possible about the work you’re doing through the end of the month. Then you can make your announcement and accept your well-deserved plaudits. TAURUS (April 20 to May 20) You face a more difficult challenge than you expected. But with that strong Taurean determination, you should be able to deal with it successfully by week’s end. GEMINI (May 21 to June 20) Before you act on your “feelings” about that upcoming decision, it might be wise to do a little factchecking first. You could be very much surprised by what you don’t find. CANCER (June 21 to July 22) A recent workplace success can open some doors that were previously closed to you. On a personal level, expect to receive some important news from a longtime friend and colleague. LEO (July 23 to August 22) Put your wounded pride aside and do what you must to heal that misunderstanding before it takes a potentially irreversible turn and leaves you regretting the loss of a good friend. VIRGO (August 23 to Sept.22) One way to kick a less-than-active social life into high gear or rebuild an outdated Rolodex file is to throw one of your well-organized get-togethers for friends and associates. LIBRA (Sept. 23 to October 22) Getting out of an obligation you didn’t really want to take on can be tricky. An honest explanation of the circumstances can help. Next time, pay more attention to your usually keen instincts. SCORPIO (Oct. 23 to Nov.21) Use your Scorpion logic to push for a no-nonsense approach to a perplexing situation. This could help keep present and potential problems from creating more confusion. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 to Dec. 21) A friend’s problem might take more time than you want to give. But staying with it once again proves the depth of your Sagittarian friendship and loyalty. CAPRICORN (Dec. 22 to Jan. 19) The Sea Goat can benefit from an extra dose of self-confidence to unsettle your detractors, giving you the advantage of putting on a strong presentation of your position. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 to Feb. 18) You might want to ask a friend or relative for advice on an ongoing personal matter. But be careful not to give away information you might later wish you had kept secret. PISCES (Feb. 19 to March 20) Use the weekend for a creativity break to help restore your spiritual energy. Once that’s done, you’ll be back and more than ready to tackle whatever challenge you need to face. BORN THIS WEEK: You get great joy out of creating beautiful things and sharing them with others who appreciate them. © 2014 King Features Synd., Inc.
