ooking for something different for your kids this summer? Tired of seeing faces illuminated by phone and gaming screens? Worried they'll forget everything they learned in school? Think bridge. Not as in building a bridge with blocks or sticks, but as in the card game. Those who view bridge as a retirement community diversion might be surprised to learn it is becoming ever more popular with a younger crowd. And that it has so many benefits to children. Bridge is a buddy game, played with a partner. Perfect for pairs of kids or for kids looking to meet new friends in a mind-challenging game. Bridge

is a world wide game. Playing bridge offers many valuable perks for children, not the least of which is that the required collaboration promotes socialization in youngsters, many of whom have been impacted by the pandemic isolation. A study commissioned by the English Bridge Union showed that bridge taught skills in team building, and mental capacity, numeracy, problem solving, probability, speaking, listening and rule following. Another study by Dr. Christopher Shaw found that students who played bridge had a significant increase in test scores in math, science, and social studies over their non-bridge playing peers. And if sports are your child's

guidelines, and every teacher and staff member is fully vaccinated. Parents can enjoy getting a peek into their child’s day with our convenient Remini app which fosters communication between parents and teachers. Our summer camp is led by experienced teachers. Camp’s theme oriented programming includes water play on our fun Splash Pad, arts and crafts, cooking, weekly themes, sports & movement, special events, weekly Havdalah and Shabbat

thing, a 2016 Sports Illustrated Kids' article notes that bridge has similarities – teamwork and good sportsmanship. In bridge, the mental game is vital to success, and the ability to clear your mind and refocus on the next task (hand) supports crucial, every-day life skills. Bridge offers opportunities for play, with very little knowledge and experience, and provides a space for players to continue to develop their bridge skills throughout their life. Take some time this summer to explore the fun, engaging, and challenging world of bridge. Join Game Friendzy today! Spring is the time for learning and to catch up!

ow, more than ever, Spring is the time for students to not only learn, but to catch up. We all know that the last couple of school years have been less than ideal. If you think about it, the last time today’s fourth graders had a “regular” year in school was in FIRST GRADE!!! These formative years are when a student goes from learning to read to reading to learn. Having intermittent in person instruction since the 20182019 school year has caused many students to fall behind. Since this year’s teacher must complete the curriculum for the current grade, there is less opportunity to catch up who is behind. These gaps exist at every grade level. That is where Huntington can help! For 45 years, Huntington Learning Center has been the leader in supplemental edu-

cation, fulfilling our mission statement; to give every student the best education possible! Our four step approach begins with a comprehensive Academic Evaluation; creation of a Personalized Plan; Customized Learning; and Communication of Progress, to parents and teachers (with permission). This approach yields amazing results, an average growth of over 2 academic years, in just three months!! For students preparing for college, the pandemic has also created challenges. They also have missed out on “normal” school years. In many cases, they are less ready for critical entrance tests, such as the SAT and ACT than ever before. Huntington can help. With Personalized Instruction and Proven Results (229 points average SAT growth and 5.4 ACT), we can prepare your teen for college and help qualify for scholarships.

With convenient locations in Cherry Hill and Turnersville, and online tutoring available,

we are accessible to all of South Jersey.

Great Times Day Camp

reat Times Day Camp is South Jersey’s perfect local camp for children ages 3-14. Campers are cared for by certified teachers in a safe and positive environment. Swimming lessons in our two in-ground pools and a 25-acre lake for boating, fishing and tubing give ample time for water play. Great Times’ programs include arts and crafts, music, horsemanship, baseball, soccer, basketball, gaga, cooking and nature. Older children may add to their challenges by participating in camp-outs, archery, boating, woodworking, tennis, street hockey and our ropes challenge course as they choose their own weekly schedules. Hot lunch is provided as a part of the camp program, with

a variety of nutritious choices available daily. To add to the excitement, weekly trips are offered at no extra charge to various sites and activities around South Jersey. For the more adventurous campers, one night campouts are offered to give campers the opportunity to have a bonfire and sleep overnight in the wooded camp environment. Great Times Day Camp offers both full and part-time weekly programs, with sessions lasting from two through nine weeks. Parents may elect to pick and choose individual weeks to conform to other vacation plans. Door-to-door transportation is available, as well as a camp shirt and camp bag to carry all necessary items to and

from camp. Extended hours are available to give the extra hours needed to working parents. During the summer, Great Times Day Camp has an open door policy where parents may visit their children at any time. Great Times Day Camp has begun holding individual tours and as camp has sold out each spring for the past 44 years, if you would like your child to be a part of the legacy of excitement and fun, call early for a copy of the brochure package. Conveniently located just minutes from the Old Berlin Circle, Route 73 and Route 30. Look Who’s Dancing

ook Who’s Dancing (LWD) is a unique, indeed revolutionary, Patent pending program designed to bring dance and exercise to populations often overlooked in the fitness industry. These include, but are not limited to people with physical, cognitive, behavioral, mental health, weight, and aging challenges. This amazing program is designed with the flexibility to adapt to the specific needs of each client and can be modified to engage all participants. LWD’s mission is to preserve and improve the health and well-being of underserved populations through dance and exercise, in an atmosphere where fitness is fun. Our focus is on what our clients can achieve, not their limitations. We, Jean Anne Principato and Helene Lynch, the co-founders of this extraordinary com-

pany, are both nurses who have over 40 years combined nursing experience and fully understand the physical and cognitive capabilities of our clients. Jean Anne, our Creative Director, has been dancing and teaching professionally for most of her life. Almost daily, we receive testimonials and anecdotal evidence which supports our faith in this program, but our faith was confirmed in an evaluation, conducted by researchers from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing which found statistically significant improvements in “Observed Affect/Mood” measures. Specifically, an increase in “interest”, decrease in “depressed” and borderline significant decrease in “anxiety”. In only 12 weeks! This evaluation, combined with the testimonials and anecdotal evidence of positive

change and participation levels, allowed LWD to file a Utility Patent with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Thus, we are Patent pending. We have been teaching our remarkable program, with the help of our amazing staff, at multiple facilities, both Special Needs and Geriatric, in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. LWD would love to bring our program to your facility. As we expand our business, we will be incorporating DVD sales for home use as well as certifying teachers who would want to bring this program to their communities. For more information, please contact us via email at lookwhosdancing@yahoo.com or through our website at specialneedsdancing.com New Website and Zoom classes coming soon!! Keep on Dancing! ■

THE SUN SPECIAL SECTION — MARCH 2-8, 2022

Summer Camp: T oo much screen time over the past decade and its residual effects on young people have been exacerbated by the pandemic response of “educating by isolating.” Relegated to their bedrooms, basements, kitchens, and college dorms, most socially distanced students were FORCED to stare at their screens from March 2020 until May/June 2021. This extended time of keeping students from physically interacting with peers and teachers has resulted in a mental health crisis we will be feeling for a very long time. After 15 months of semi-seclusion, missed social opportunities, and frayed friendships, young people were acting out: antisocial behaviors, fights, emotional breakdowns, defiance, anxiety, and depression. Summer camps, however, offered an oasis of sorts- a reset, an antidote, a social-emotional vaccine. Campers, staff, and even school teachers had a magical and energizing experience being outside, socializing, playing, and interacting again! The past two summers affirmed unequivocally that there’s no better place for children and young adults to learn and regain their social and emotional equilibrium than at Summer Camp. Here’s what we observed: • Kids bounce back. Kids are resilient. They roll with the punches, learn from their mistakes, and when the bar is set

The Hot Ticket for 2022!

high, with the right encouragement- they rise to the occasion! • Kids naturally make friends. Thousands of new campers arrived at camps the past two summers, and it was amazing to see how they were drawn towards one another; quickly building friendships, with their saved up love and empathy. • Kids love being outdoors. Always have. But after being forced indoors for so long, kids cared less about the bugs, the dirt and mud, the liquid sunshine, and even the heat! At Liberty Lake, we embrace the opportunity to jump into a lake, just like kids have done for thousands of years! • Kids don’t need screens to enjoy themselves. Liberty Lake has been a screen-free haven since day one in 2002, from drop-off to pick-up. You’d think that after so much screen time, that kids would be jonesing for their phones/tablets/TVs… Nope. Playing outside with their friends is WAY more engaging. Older campers and staff actually THANK US for providing an electronic-free, stressfree utopia! And there’s more good news. Thousands of parents who never went to camp, and never sent their children to camp before, have reassessed the summer camp cost/benefit analysis and are flooding American Camp Association accredited camps with registrations like never before. The pandemic has

here are many ways for families to express and feel the joys of Jewish living. Throughout the year, our students have opportunities to participate in hands-on Jewish experiences with their families, applying the skills they have gained with the curriculum in our classrooms. Moments of religious celebration help form relationships that will engage families in our community, as we work to help families discover meaning and purpose in how they educate children at TBS. TBS families feel the joys of Jewish living as they have the opportunity to celebrate Shabbat several times a month on Saturday mornings and Friday evenings in dynamic services that are upbeat and musical. Prayer, especially on Shabbat, needs to be exciting, engaging, spiritual and fun. TBS’s inclusive Family Services provide a welcoming environment which
