here are many ways for families to express and feel the joys of Jewish living. Throughout the year, our students have opportunities to participate in hands-on Jewish experiences with their families, applying the skills they have gained with the curriculum in our classrooms. As we work to help our families discover meaning and purpose in how they educate children at TBS, moments of religious celebration help form relationships that will engage families in our community. Our families feel the joys of Jewish living as they are engaged in dynamic Shabbat services that are upbeat and musical which allow our families to celebrate Shabbat several times a month on Saturday mornings and Friday evenings. Prayer, especially on Shabbat, needs to be exciting, engaging, spiritual and fun. TBS’s inclusive Family Services provide a welcoming

environment which nurtures children with special needs and their families. Visual signs and prompts, gesturing, movement, and a sequenced schedule to ease transitioning throughout the service are incorporated to accommodate a wide range of students’ unique learning styles. Together in this familyfriendly setting, we sing, debate, experience drama, stories, laugh and enjoy our warm community in a relaxed environment. Our families feel the joys of Jewish living when they gain appreciation and feel the rhythm of Jewish music as they make joyful noise with the TBS community. These beautiful moments are found singing with Cantor Cohen, listening to the sounds of Alex Weinberg’s guitar as they are warmly greeted at each session, or singing together with Rabbi Peltz and Rabbi Wexler at Family Shabbat Dinners. Parents stand with

their child while singing blessings and songs as they experience the warm connection that Shabbat creates as a community. Our families discover the tools they need to feel part of congregational life at TBS through learning that integrates student experiences in the classroom with the immersion that can only happen together as a family. From praying and making music to Shabbat dinners and family-centered programs, learning is a lifelong process. We look forward to partnering with you on that journey as we nurture our children to grow up loving Jewish living. Temple Beth Sholom is located at 1901 Kresson Road Cherry Hill, NJ 08003 For more information please visit our website www.tbsonline.org or call us at 856-751-6663. ■

alt Disney once said, “Do what you do so well that they will want to see it again and bring their friends.” And bring their friends they do… to Cherry Hill Montessori’s Summer Day Camp, where each day is a new adventure! Operating in our present location for over 30 years with skilled, experienced teachers and certified lifeguards, a low child-to-staff ratio, and a program that offers children new and exciting learning adventures each day, Cherry Hill Montessori’s Summer Day Camp is a wonderful way for your child to spend his or her summer! We are owned and operated by lifelong Cherry Hill residents, which allows us to implement programs and policies that specialize in the specific needs of our local families. Our four to nine-week Summer Day Camp runs from June 28 – August 27, 2021, and welcomes children ages 3-7. We offer a variety of developmentally appropriate individual and group activities including swimming & sports, arts & crafts, music & movement, Spanish instruction, learning through hands-on exploration, and more! Our trained staff fosters social, emotional, academic

and physical development to allow each child to grow independently and confidently, consistent with our Montessori philosophy and traditions. Since our daily swim events are an important part of our Summer Camp Program, all campers must be fully potty trained. Our one-acre property is conveniently located on Rockhill Road, just one block off of Route 70 West near Interstate 295 in Cherry Hill, with easy access for drop-off and pick-up. speech sound disorders as an example. How will our speech language pathologists help your child with their articulation or how they pronounce sounds and words? While there are many ways to target articulation or speech sound disorders effectively, our practice stands out above others in our training with the technique known as Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets or PROMPT. This technique is a tactile, kinesthetic approach that uses touch cues to a child’s articulators in order to manually guide them through a targeted sound, word, phrase or sentence. This technique helps to develop motor control and also helps to develop proper oral muscular movements. Many of our therapists have obtained this special training and the success of the children who come for therapy is astounding. One parent is thrilled with her daughter’s progress and left us a review stating “the PROMPT therapy that is used is truly amazing and works! My daughter even tries to prompt herself and it is so adorable!” Please contact our office to find out more about PROMPT therapy and the different ways we can help your child succeed with their articulation goals. www. speaktomekids.com or 856 983 3390 ■

or a year now, our children have been living a bizarre, unnatural life of screens, quarantines, hybrid schooling (if lucky), and enough fear and disappointment to last them into adulthood. Kids’ mental health and social development need more than a vaccine at this point. The quickest remedy for your children this summer is Summer Camp. Over 1,000 lucky children, and 250 staff attended Liberty Lake Day Camp in summer 2020. With strict safety guidelines and a slightly modified program, kids played happily together outdoors, mentored by brave, caring staff. According to camp families, it was one their children’s most meaningful life experience ever. This June, after sixteen months and two compromised school years, our children’s need for the benefits of Summer Camp will be even more viatl: • REAL HUMAN CONNEC-

TION- There’s NO substitute for real human connection. Making and strengthening relationships while being guided by loving people is what camp is all about, and something we are all lacking and craving. • REACQUAINTING OURSELVES WITH NATUREWhile we have all been trapped indoors, 99% of the world is in the beautiful OUTDOORS, which fills our soul with joy. From picture perfect days, to “liquid sunshine” washoutsit’s REAL living- the way we’ve lived for thousands of years, until recently. • RESILIENCY- Learning to be brave and confront challenges and fears are important facets of resiliency. It’s easier to stay at home and stare at screens, but we want our kids to grow up with the kind of courage and “can-do” attitude that our essential worker neighbors have cultivated. • *MENTAL HEALTH* - Hospital visits have risen dramatically for children and teens. Kids are resilient and bounce back quickly. But a year

and a half of stress and anxiety is bound to leave a mark. Extroverted kids are suffering, missing the energy of their peers. Introverted kids may seem to enjoy sitting in their homes, away from life’s normal pressures - but need social interaction just as much. e know that healthy habits can affect a person’s risk for cancer and other diseases including heart disease and diabetes. This is because getting enough physical activity and eating healthy foods can help our bodies work as well as possible. And there is growing evidence that cancer survivors who have these healthy habits have better quality of life and might have better treatment outcomes. The American Cancer Society recommends adults get at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity or 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity activity each week. Moderate activities make you breathe as hard as you would during a brisk walk. Vigorous activities use your large muscle groups and make your heartbeat faster, make you breathe faster and deeper, and make you sweat. As we challenge ourselves to eat healthy and get active, let’s help reduce cancer risks not only for ourselves but also for our community. You can make your miles more meaningful by joining the American Cancer Society 49th annual Bike-A-Thon Bridge to the Beach on Sunday, September

H

19, 2021. This DetermiNation program will help you achieve your personal fitness goals and change the course of cancer forever. The ride features four start-points with six route options (including a century route) giving you the freedom to ride a short, medium or long distance. Or go virtual and set your own miles to complete at your pace. With access to professional training, an unparalleled community of support, and inspiration every step of the way, the American Cancer Society will help make your ride a triumph over cancer. When you join Bike-A-Thon you’re not just participating in an endurance event. You’re joining a community of cancer fighters, who for nearly 50 years have pushed themselves to help save lives from cancer. Every pedal pushes us closer to breakthrough research and provides those in need access to a 24/7 cancer helpline. Together, through the fundraising efforts and dedication of our cyclists and volunteers, we are fighting cancer smarter, better and harder than we ever have before. continued from page 3 to answer your own questions. Often we allow roadblocks to get in the way of what we already know. I believe the teen years to be the most difficult. You are no longer a “kid”, and not quite an adult. Do you have difficulty knowing where you want to be? Let’s work together to make it easier to find your own voice. During the many years I counseled high school people, we worked on self esteem issues, eating disorders, depression, abuse, and substance abuse. Remember, you deserve to be the best “you” possible.
