Winter is the perfect time to sit by a blazing fire or enjoy your favorite cold weather activities. However, cold temps, low humidity and forced air heating systems often lead to dry, itchy, flaky skin causing minor skin issues to worsen. To help you through the season ahead, here are some helpful winter skin care tips from your friends at Connolly Dermatology:

Moisturize: This is the most crucial step in treating dry, flaky skin. We recommend switching from the lightweight gel or lotion you might use in warmer seasons to a more emollient fragrance-free moisturizing cream for the winter months.

Protect: Regular sunscreen use helps prevent premature aging, skin cancer and changes in pigmentation. If your moisturizer does not contain an SPF, be

sure to include one in your daily routine.

Humidify: A humidifier in the bedroom can help dry, dehydrated skin. If your system does not have a built-in humidifier, a simple portable unit will work well.

Additionally: Be aware that long, hot showers can cause dry skin and irritation. Limit yours to ten minutes at a comfortably warm temperature, pat dry and apply moisturizer immediately.

We are a family owned and operated Garden Center that has been in existence for over 115 years and is in its 4th generation. The business started around 1885 as a general store named Morton & Haines. They sold groceries and farmers’ supplies, including farm equipment. It housed the “Parry Post Office” until the free rural delivery system was inaugurated. At that time the post office was moved to its current site – “The Palmyra Post Office”. As farms in the area were sold, they added a Buick Dealership known as Haines Buick.

On our ancestral site, which is rich in history, with the tradition of a turnpike, tollhouse, a historic store and post office, the family firm continues. Great-grandchild, Todd Perkins, and wife Beth, run the business today.

Although we no longer sell farm equipment or Buicks, Haines Farm & Garden is now comprised of a Garden Center, Gift Shop and a Pond Department. We still offer old fashioned service, quality products, a friendly staff and our dogs, Bubba, Lester & Mojo. Parts of the building and some of the scales that we use today, were used in the original general store.

Wagonhouse Winery

In early 2004, Dan and Heather Brown decided to start a vineyard and winery. They leased some land from Dan’s family who had been farming in Mickleton for over a century, planted some grapes and hoped for the best! Fourteen years, 18 – 25 wines and three little boys later, they are still moving forward with all the energy and creativity they started with! They started the Three Boys Brand in 2009, to separate their traditional estate wines from their line of unique boutique blends. By 2010, Dan and Heather were ready to purchase a farm of their own. Not only did they want to stay near Mickelton where their vines were maturing beautifully, but they also wanted a small farm where they could

live onsite, have room for their boys to run and open a tasting room. Leaving the 2010 Woodstown Fall Festival, they found their new home at 1401 Route 45. By Mother’s Day 2011, they had planted vines and opened their tasting room. However, as the saying goes, “a rolling stone gathers no moss,” the Browns started a new venture in 2014, Crop @1401. They put up two high tunnels and planted a variety of fruits and vegetables for their boys to farm and sell. As a result of the pandemic, they turned one of those high tunnels into a year-round entertainment space. While seated in the 4500 square foot heated greenhouse, now named La Serra @1401 (greenhouse in Italian), guests can enjoy the ever growing and changing varietals that they have planted, as well as the wine and food ~ made with the same! The name “Wagonhouse Winery” was decided upon to celebrate the old wagonhouse on the Brown family farm. The idea was to build a tasting room someday modeled after that very building. Ironically enough, the building that is now their tasting room was once the site of the original wagonhouse for the farm located at 1401 Route 45, and they have the pictures to prove it!
