Present-day needs, but planning for future. The Scott County Community Development Agency has been working diligently to promote local businesses. Here’s why: Minnesota currently has more than 100,000 unÀlled jobs. In August, the Bureau of Labor

Statistics reported there are now 6.7 million jobs that are vacant in the U.S. The state unemployment rate is below 3%, the lowest in nearly 20 years. An average of 10,000 Baby Boomers (workers born between 1946 and 1964) retire each day -that’s 4 million employees leaving the workforce, with far fewer entering the job market to replace them. Finding skilled employees will be more difÀcult in the future due to declining workforce numbers. Through a unique initiative created by Scott County Association for Leadership and EfÀciency (SCALE), the FIRST SHOP STOP, was formed several years ago which promotes local economic development and reinforces the belief that Scott County is a a great place to “Live, Learn & Earn.” A major goal of the organization is to have 50% of local residents working at businesses and organizations located in Scott County by 2030.
