One goal of a 24-hour fi refi ghter training last Saturday: wear them out. In life, fi refighters have to respond regardless of what tiring, mundane or stressful events were already going on in their lives. This past Saturday, a group of more than two dozen rookie fi refighters spent 24 hours in a training shift at the Scott County Association for Leadership and Efficiency (SCALE) Regional Training Facility in Sand Creek Township, near Jordan. “This is the fi rst time that we’ve tried a 24-hour shift, said Mike Briese, regional training facility manager. Nearly all the cities in Scott County were represented by 15 rookie fi refighters, and Carver County sent about a dozen. Four were from Jordan.

Jordan Elementary School had its own dress-up days, including crazy hair day. Third-grader Tate Gregor (left) and first-grader Avery Gregor sported funky ’dos.

The levy comes in at an increase of less than 9 percent, or $333,901, more than last year’s levy. The maximum the district will levy is more than $4.1 million. The increase is the same as the cost of an air handler installed at

the elementary school, Superintendent Kirk Nelson said. The state is reimbursing the district for the cost in 2012. Board members passed the levy with all yes votes. Board members Dan Buresh and Tammy Will were absent from the meeting.
