INDEPENDENT ELECTION 2011

Two new faces join Vollbrecht

JAGUARS VOLLEYBALL

NO 1 CAN DENY

Carritt, Pedersen win open seats on board BY DAVID SCHUELLER dschueller@swpub.com

Caroline Carritt brought a history of working in education to her candidacy. Lauren Pedersen tenaciously won the most votes after two previous attempts. Robert Vollbrecht returned to the board on appointment only to win the spot through election on Tuesday. Carritt, Pedersen and Vollbrecht earned election to the Jordan School Board in Tuesday’s election, edging out Dennis Schmit and Melisa Stoltz; Eric Dahl got 40 votes but had withdrawn from the race in October. “Of course, I’m very pleased at the results and that I’ve made it on the school board,” Pedersen said. Two years ago, Pedersen made an unsuccessful run at a school board seat, and then applied last year to be appointed after a board member stepped down. This year, she made it. “Keep trying. I’m a persistent person, aren’t I?” Pedersen said. She wa s c elebrati n g her son Landon’s fifth birthday when she found out the news.

Seniors Kelsey Chambers (left), Jenna Dietel, Emilee Gutzmer and sophomore Makena Wiescamp celebrate after the Jordan volleyball team defeated Belle Plaine in five sets to win the Class 2A, Section 2 north subsection title on Thursday in St. Peter. The Jaguars would do it again two days later as they defeated Le Sueur-Henderson to win the section title and qualify for the state volleyball tournament this weekend.

Playoff volleyball by the numbers

‘Completely Hollywood (abridged)’ opens Nov. 17

When it comes to postseason volleyball in the southwest Twin Cities and all of Minnesota, it’s like a whole new season. No true team loses hope. Before an eight-game win streak going into the state tournament, the Jordan Jaguars’ overall record stood at 12-10. Who are the underdogs? Well, that’s a matter of opinion.

The setting: Jordan, Minn. “In the first act, we do pretty much play ourselves,” said David Pankratz. Oh yeah, and the audience should be ready to get some airtime in Jordan High School’s performance of “Completely Hollywood (abridged).” “A lot of it is improvised based on audience reaction,” said Kimberly Seifert, who plays a lead role as herself. “It doesn’t really matter where you sit,” Anne Colling said. “Everyone’s a victim,” Seifert said.
