lthough the 144th annual McLeod County Fair doesn’t open its gates until Wednesday, Aug. 17, there’s plenty to talk about. New this year — a redesigned website. It’s the same address — www. mcleodcountyfair.com — but it has a new look. If you haven’t checked it out yet, take the time to do so. Rather than fair activities broken out by days as in the past, the new site organizes activities by topic: Guest Info, Schedule, Participate, Get Connected and About Us. Need fair hours? Check under “Guest Info.” Want to know when Hairball is playing? Look under “Schedule.” Interested in getting fair updates? “Like” the fair’s Facebook page and get connected through email and Twitter. Want to know who manages the fair? Check out “About Us.” A s i n t he past, ad mission a nd event tickets can be purchased online through the McLeod County Fair’s website. A pre-fair gate special is available as well as bundle packs for gate admission, music events and Grandstand activities.

Another draw at the fair is the Chil-

dren’s Barnyard, which features small animals and fun activities. It’s the small red barn between the Sheep and Goat Barn and the Beef and Swine Barn. Children can get plenty of interaction with exotic animals at Christian Lilienthal’s Animal Talks! Thursday and Saturday on the Miller Manufacturing Stage. He will also have a walkthrough exhibit along the south side of the fair’s central green space. Kids are also welcome to test their mettle at the Kids Pedal Tractor Pull at 4:30 p.m. Friday. Fighting for your values at the Capitol MNSURE continues to be a disaster • Premiums & deductibles continue to skyrocket. • BlueCross will cancel 103,000 insurance policies due to losses of over $500 million, hurting MN families. • MNSURE website has cost taxpayers over $300 million and still has major problems. • Governor Dayton and the DFL still blindly support it. • We need private sector reforms that increase access to medical care and lower premiums.

• The final bill had some additional funds for 212 and language to allow federal matching funds to complete 212. Unfortunately, the metro Democrat-controlled Senate broke their agreement and added a last-minute $100 million per mile boondoggle light rail project and the bill failed.
