www.RedWing.org Are you ready for a fun getaway?
Looking for natural beauty, lots of activities, historic businesses and sites with small town charm? This guide will
help you plan a trip to explore, relax, learn and be entertained. We are located on the Mississippi River between the Minneapolis/ St. Paul metro and Rochester; just a pretty drive away. The river is the backdrop for gorgeous views from our bluffs and parks which are accessible by car, foot, and bike. And you can get out on the water too; paddle a canoe, kayak or stand-up-paddle board on the backwaters or gas up the boat to discover nature up close. Our bluffs are a natural playground for the adventurous. Hiking, rock climbing, mountain biking, golfing, skiing, snowboarding and disc golf are all part of exciting activities you can do on your trip to Red Wing. Our rich culture and history draw visitors from all around the world. Take in a show at the historic Sheldon Theatre, walk through the sculpture garden and see famous artists’ works at The Anderson Center, and buy a
variety of paintings, sculptures, pottery, jewelry and more from local artists at the Red Wing Arts Association Depot Gallery. History buffs will love the architecture, trains and Goodhue County History Center for exhibits and information about the geography and people of the area. Our other museums are a great chance to see special features that are unique to this area. The St. James Hotel is a great place to step back in time as it preserves much of its original historic detailing. Of course you can’t miss seeing the World’s Largest Boot at the flagship Red Wing Shoe store, and make sure to see the pottery that made this area famous at Red Wing Stoneware, antique stores and the Pottery Museum of Red Wing. Thank you for considering Red Wing as a destination. We appreciate your interest and hope you have a wonderful time in our community. We hope to see you soon. Happy travels,
Arloa Bach

Beyond the permanent collection, the Anderson Center offers different art exhibitions throughout the year, and art celebrations in both July and December.
Local Artist Community
The Red Wing Arts Association hosts numerous events to showcase their artistic members, including the Plein Air Art Festival in June and the Fall Festival of the Arts in October. They also showcase exhibits at their Depot Gallery all year long – you will want to plan a second or third trip as they change throughout the year. They also offer a gift shop packed with handmade work by member artists in the area. The talent doesn’t stop there...

Outdoor Sculpture Garden
As a town that celebrates the arts, we have a broad range on display. While we have various sculptures throughout our community, the greatest display can be found in the outdoor sculpture garden at the Anderson Center at Tower View. Over 30 sculptures by internationally acclaimed sculptors can be found here in this 15-acre park – one of the largest sculpture gardens in Minnesota! Enjoy walking trails, picnic areas, and great views as well.
A Pottery Legacy
It can be indisputably stated that pottery is one of Red Wing’s biggest claims to fame since the first pottery pieces were created in the area in the mid 1800s. One can still witness both traditional and contemporary pieces of Red Wing Pottery & Stoneware being made at their showroom at 4909 Moundview Drive. Factory tours are offered during the week (and by appointment for groups). You can enjoy this tradition first-hand by perusing stores like Al’s Antiques and Larry’s Jugs for vintage pottery pieces, walk through the Pottery Museum of Red Wing, and even join the hundreds that come to town each summer to celebrate the pottery legacy at the Red Wing Collectors Society’s Annual Convention.

The Red Wing Arts Association (RWAA) approached the city with the concept of this “mini park” dedicated to the refuge of pollinators (honey bees, butterflies, etc.). In the fall of 2015, the City gave the go ahead on this new park in town: Pollinator Park. Located on the corner of Broad Street and Main Street/Hwy 61, this park is centrally located at the entrance to both the Riverfront and downtown Red Wing.
Discovery
Garden
The mission of the Discovery Garden is to be “an inspiring space for children of all ages and abilities to explore and learn in a natural setting.”
Outdoor Activities
Located next to the Red Wing Universal Playground in Colvill Park, Discovery Garden is a wheelchair accessible raisedbed garden created to please all the senses for people of all ages.
Working with Goodhue County Master Gardeners, Scenic Spaces, and the City of Red Wing, RWAA has spearheaded the development of Pollinator Park with the first planting of native plants and grasses in November 2015. The remainder of the work will be resumed in the Spring of 2016. The park will feature walkways, benches, a tribute sculpture and an information kiosk.

Flower
Baskets
If you’ve walked the streets of Red Wing from mid-May through September, you’ve undoubtedly noticed the hanging adornments on the light poles: our flower baskets. For 25 years, Red Wing has been displaying these baskets from the light poles thanks to the fundraising efforts of the Noontime Kiwanis Club, local volunteers, and nurseries. What started as only 18 baskets has now grown this year to include over 200 baskets lusciously full of colorful flowers and maintained to perfection. Our baskets have enhanced our city annually and are a true testament to nature’s beauty.
Discovery Garden is made up of nine themed gardens where herbs, flowers, and even tomatoes grow. Make sure to stop by in the summer months to explore.
These baskets can be found in the downtown district and other shopping and park areas throughout Red Wing. Indisputably the pride of our city’s green thumb, these baskets are grown and created every year by Sargent’s Nursery and Hallstrom’s Florist & Greenhouse and are filled with marigolds, petunias, verbenas, and more.
Directions
From Plum Street (Hwy 58), travel east on W 7th Street. Cross Bluff St. to continue on E 7th Street. Pass by the entrance to Memorial Park then take a left onto Nymphara Ln. Take your first left to cross under Hwy 61 into Colvill Park (510 Nymphara Lane).
Have a green thumb yourself? The Red Wing Arts Association hosts a garden tour of the city’s most beautiful and unique gardens. Classes to create your very own Red Wing flower basket are available at both Sargent’s Nursery and Hallstrom’s Florist & Greenhouses.

Something for Every Palate Photo from Staghead
Red Wing offers an ample amount of dining options for even the pickiest of “foodies.” Looking for a burger or pasta? Meeting for a special dinner or just a drink? You can find whatever you’re in the mood for at our restaurants, bars, and cafés here in town. Looking for breakfast? Bev’s Café serves up a home-style breakfast and Perkins offers a variety of breakfast options (served all day!). You can find brunch daily at The Veranda. For lunch you can find paninis, artisan soups, and coffee at Mandy’s Coffee & Café. Staghead offers a locally-sourced menu that changes often. Try a steak from Bayside Tap & Steakhouse or a buffalo burger from Old Western Saloon & Grill. For dinner, both Liberty’s Restaurant & Lounge and Marie’s Underground Grill & Tap House have a large menu with a variety of foods, extensive buffets, and will even deliver! Harbor Bar sits just across the river with great food and events. For a fancier dinner, The Port offers a fine dining experience in the cellar of the St. James Hotel.
Many of our restaurants also offer fabulous fish fries, happy hours, and even outdoor seating. Mandy’s Café & Coffee and Marie’s Underground Grill and Tap House both offer seating outside. The Veranda offers patio seating and Bayside Tap and Steakhouse has rooftop seating – both with great views of the river. Harbor Bar has ample outdoor seating as well as a marina just steps from the restaurant in which you can eat dockside. Don’t forget to make stops at Flower Valley Vineyard and Falconer Vineyards – both of which offer award-winning wines. Wood-fired pizza is also offered on the deck bistro at Falconer Vineyards. Sip on ales and wines at Jimmy’s Pub or check out Red Wing Brewery for craft ales and homemade calzones. Whatever you’re craving, we’re ready to quench your every hunger and thirst.

Wine & Beer
By any standard, the popularity of local wineries and craft breweries has increased in recent years. Here in Red Wing, we offer both. For the beer enthusiast, plan a trip to Red Wing Brewery over on Old West Main Street. When it opened in 2011, it became the first brewery in town to carry on the tradition of small-batch brewing since the last brewery in Red Wing closed its doors 60 years ago. While the brewhouse is small (3½ barrels), they produce 6-7 barrels of their own featured historical ales every week to serve beer-loving locals and visitors alike. Also regularly on tap are guest beers that are either new to the market or everyday favorites of the craft beer community. Local wines and family beverages also available. For those who prefer fine wines, we have two local vineyards that grow and produce their own wines: Flower Valley Vineyards and Falconer Vineyards & Winery.
Flower Valley Vineyards can be found at the base of the bluffs in an area known as Flower Valley just minutes south of Red Wing. This family farm was transformed into a vineyard in 2002 by Dave, Mary, and Tom Mohn. The success of their homegrown grapes and wine led to the addition of a tasting room in recent years. On the opposite side of Red Wing, you can find Falconer Vineyards & Winery. Nestled in the bluff valley on the west side of town, this 6.5-acre vineyard is one not to be missed. Established in 2003 and owned by John Falconer and Ann Lowe, this vineyard makes wine with cold climate grapes developed specifically for our cold, midwestern climate and also offers several wines in their tasting room and (seasonal) deck bistro throughout the year. After visiting the two local vineyards, make a mini winery tour out of your trip by traveling west to Cannon River Winery in Cannon Falls. Their sunny 20-acre vineyard is home to more than 9,000 vines, rolling hills, an antique tasting bar, and a 150-year-old timber frame barn.

Explore the
Mississippi River Valley During your stay in Red Wing, we encourage travel around the area as the Mississippi River Valley deserves to be explored! Plan a scenic drive along either side of the river by way of the Great River Road. To start on the Wisconsin side, cross the bridge from Red Wing to Hager City, WI to travel south along Hwy 35. To explore the Minnesota side of the Mississippi, simply drive south on Hwy 61 to start your day trip to one of the other charming river towns in the area.
Lake City
Just south of Red Wing on the Minnesota side, you’ll find this charming town on the banks of Lake Pepin. Visitors can sail the lake with GEM Sailing or take it in by paddleboat on board the Pearl of the Lake. Lake Pepin Pearl Button Co. is a Lake City shopping staple, complete with antiques, apparel, art and more. Nosh is a favorite for fine dining with a lake view, while Big Bear Pizzeria offers a more casual fare. AmericInn, Sunset Motel, Villas on Pepin and Willows on the River all offer lodging on or near
the lake if you desire a longer stay. Looking for more to do in town? Contact Lake City Tourism at (877) 525-3248 or visit LakeCityMN.org.
Around the Area
Red Wing makes a great “home-base” for your trip because of our easy access to the Great River Road on both the Minnesota and Wisconsin sides of the river.
Wabasha
Further south on Hwy 61 is where you’ll find Wabasha, home of Proud’s Bridgeside Antiques. The National Eagle Center can also be found in downtown on the bank of the river and offers the chance to learn more about our national bird through exhibits and live eagle programs daily. Once in Wabasha, take Cty 25 across the bridge over to Nelson, WI to travel back north on the Great River Road (Hwy 35).
Pepin, WI
On the Wisconsin side, Pepin sits just across Lake Pepin from Lake City. Stop here to explore the area on a sailing excursion with Sail Pepin.
