Tell us about your company We are an Independent Insurance Agency specializing in personal and small business insurance services including auto, home, liability, and life insurance. At Prior Lake State Agency we partner with several companies allowing us to adapt your coverage as your insurance needs change.
What are you company’s strengths? Our greatest strength is in our relationships with our clients. Everyone knows they need insurance, but not everyone understands exactly what their coverage affords. We strive to educate our customers, in turn providing peace of mind from the unforeseen.
What are the appealing aspects about working for your company? E: As a fifth generation Prior Lake resident, I am proud to be working in this community providing a meaningful service to my neighbors. An insurance claim can be a traumatic event, I appreciate the opportunity to soften the experience with a prompt and fair claims process. T: Coming back to my hometown to work at Prior Lake State Agency after years of non-profit and corporate work, I truly appreciate the fact that we’re a small, family-owned agency. We know our customers by name and provide individualized service to each one.
What are the top 3 keys to success from your business perspective? E: In my opinion the number one rule in life and business is to show up and be present. Create that connection by giving your authentic attention to your customers. Secondly, hustle and heart all day, every day. This idea blurs in to your personal life as well, hard work always pays off. Lastly, stay curious and keep learning. Insurance regulations, marketing landscapes and company appetites adjust continually, staying current strengthens customer relationships.
What’s the range of issues you deal with during a typical day? T: Our agency covers a broad spectrum of insurance services. It’s one of the reasons why I love my job! I want to be my customers’ first point of contact with questions ranging from, “How much would it cost to insure a 2016 Aston Martin?” to “What kind of insurance should I have if I want to start my own business?” The insurance industry is constantly changing, especially in our great (storm ravaged) state of Minnesota. And I love to educate customers and help navigate them through these changes. Plus, insurance documents are confusing and sometimes seem to be written in a foreign language. As an agent, I want my customers to feel comfortable with their policies and am always happy to translate.

Years With the Company
Your Local Flooring Experts in Prior Lake
(9 months) Opened last fall, 2016

Tell Us About Your Company We are a flooring store that is both retail and a Builder Selection Center. We specialize in all types of flooring such as carpet, vinyl and laminate. From helping you choose the right flooring for your living space to providing a fair and accurate estimate, you can count on us every step of the way.
What prompted you to enter this career field? I began my love for the business working at my mother and father’s furniture store in high school. I enjoyed the work and learned how to run a business from my mom at Carol’s Furniture. My husband Pat and I opened our store in the same location (building) as my parent’s furniture store.
What are the top 3 keys to success fom your business perspective? Communication and patience are imperative in this business. Everything needs to be correct; from ordering the flooring to scheduling the installation. I love what I do and I love to help people. I think a good attitude leads to customer referrals.
Jodi Langhorst Langhorst Law Office Advice to young professionals I worked for 10 years as a paralegal and went back to law school later in life. Do what you love and pursue your dreams. Opening my own business in the community where I reside was the best career choice I have made. Avoid the long commute time and have that time with your family instead.
Struggles Going to law school as a single parent and commuting 2 hours one way each day was not easy. Without family and friends to support my goals, I could never have graduated with honors. If you put your mind to it, anything is possible.
Company strengths I have a small office with just me and my assistant. We offer excellent quality local legal service in the areas of family law, estate planning and personal injury.
Fulfillment outside of work Finding the right balance of work, family and personal time is not easy in today’s business climate, but I love to garden, bike, fish, cross country ski, hike and work with families as a foster parent. Working with others in the many charitable organizations I volunteer with helps me give back to others in need for the many blessings I have in my work and family life.

Social Media Marketing Audience Targeted Display Online Banner Ads Website Design SEO/SEM
What are the top 3 keys to success from your business perspective? I think open dialogue between yourself and who you are doing business with to keep all parties in the know and aware of changes or concerns. Do what you say you are going to do. Be prepared and be on time.
What is your perspective on the business climate in the southwest market? I think it is healthy and ever changing. Just as we need to be nimble and provide products to fit all businesses, business owners face similar issues. Customer’s expectations are ever changing and you have to be able to keep up.
Where do you find fulfillment outside of work? I enjoy doing many things but my fulfillment comes from spending time with my family and friends and spending what little time and good weather we get, on the water doing almost anything.
Business advice I would share Find something that you are good at and become great at it but no matter what enjoy what you do!

Karen Stiles Edina Realty Tell us about your company I have worked for only two companies in my career. Starting with Award Realty in 1977, I quickly learned how much I wanted to pursue this as a lifelong career. Award was acquired by Edina Realty in January of 1981. The motto of Award Realty was “Sharing and Caring is our Strength”. It was a company filled with energetic people who loved the real estate business. Many key agents from that company are still working all over the metro area today. It was a great start! Edina Realty has been my business home since 1981. Another caring company with extremely talented owners, managers and staff. I am very lucky to belong to this company. In 1998, I was awarded with the Em my Award. The award is given to one agent and one employee of Edina Realty, and named after the founder, Emma Rovick. It is still a great honor, and one that I am very proud to have. It is given to the person who exemplifies Honesty, Integrity and Commitment to the real estate industry.

Bio I work for My Appliance Source, a family owned and operated appliance store in Shakopee, Minnesota. We have been in business since 1977 when my grandfather started servicing appliances out of his garage on Ash Street in Chaska. In 1984, we moved to our current location on Highway 169 in Shakopee. My grandfather believed taking care of the customer after the sale was of great importance. Our company continues to support this value, which is the reason we sell the Whirlpool product lines of Amana, Whirlpool, Maytag, KitchenAid, and JennAir. Being the last American made manufacturer of appliances, service support, parts, and training are readily available.

hakopee High School sophomores will watch as their future is built around them over the next two years as the voter-approved school
addition is constructed and the Academies of Shakopee becomes a reality. While district officials, School Board members and community volunteers have been forming plans and a framework for the new academy model all year, there is still a lot of work to be done before
the academies open in fall 2018. As part of the process, a group of teachers, staff and community members met for four days this summer to write a master plan, which will operate as a master to-do list leading to the opening of the new school. “The academy model is being implemented because we will have a large school and we want to make it feel small,” said Stef Janke, administrative assistant to the principal of Shakopee High School. “We need to identify the work and organize ourselves into teams. The master plan really breaks down what we need to do in a manageable, thoughtful plan.” Planning something like the imple-
mentation of a new academic model is no easy or small task, which is why the district has recruited so much help from the community. As part of the planning process, seven teams have been coordinated to carry out the master plan over the next year. The seven teams cover the following areas: communication, analysis and continuous improvement, postsecondary alignment, freshman academy, instruction and professional development, business and community support, and organization structures and support.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. Transportation Department has awarded $17.7 million in funding for the Highways 169 and 41 intersection project, it was announced Friday by U.S. Sens. Amy Klobuchar and Al Franken of Minnesota. The Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery (TIGER) Grant for Scott County’s project will help fund the intersection, which county officials say is the site for a disproportionate number of crashes and significant congestion. The new intersection will enhance safety and efficiency, highway officials say. “Our 21st century economy demands 21st century infrastructure. Investments in transportation infrastructure are essential to ensuring that Minnesota’s roadways are meeting the real needs of our communities and businesses,” Klobuchar said in a statement. “That is why I worked to help secure a TIGER grant for the U.S. 169 Freight Mobility project, which will ease congestion, strengthen road safety, and keep driving our state’s economy in the right direction in Scott County and along the entire U.S. Highway 169 corridor.” “This is great news for the businesses, commuters, and residents that use Highway 169 every day,” Franken said in a statement. “This project, which I have been pressing to get funded, will modernize an important highway for Minnesota and relieve congestion for both people who need to

About the company The Jordan Junker hunts through barns, auction houses, flea markets and more to find unique treasures to bring back to the store. An eccletic mix of repurposed, antiques, furniture and more. As your exclusive local Country Chic chalk+mineral paint retailer we offer DIY workshops and hands on knowledge of new techniques to help you achieve the look seen in home decor magazines and TV shows for a fraction of the cost.
What prompted me to open the store? I have always had a love of antiques and the history behind them. When the opportunity came about to open my own store I decided it was time to start pursueing my dream and 5 years later I’ve never worked harder and never been more passionate about it - I Iove what I do & I love sharing my unique treasures and ideas with our customers.
Struggles I have had to overcome The main thing I struggle with is never having enough time to do everything I feel I need to do. I have a full time career outside of The Jordan Junker and it can be quite challenging to balance my time with family while also maintaining The Jordan Junker. Being a mother and sole provider for my family is my top priority but I try to balance that with taking care of my creative side as well. As I prepare to enter the next stage in my life once my last child graduates I look forward to the increased time I will have to pursue growth opportunities for The Jordan Junker.
Shelley Dery Southwest News Media Education, training and bio I consider myself both a Maverick and a Gopher with a degree in art and concentrations in business, music and Spanish. My love of advertising and art in general launched after it became obvious that I was not a very good musician. With over 25 years of advertising sales experience with Southwest News Media, I have enjoyed watching businesses grow and succeed.
My 3 top keys to success Probably the most important key to this position is to treat my customers the way I would like to be treated. Great customer service is essential in advertising sales. Every customer has different wants and needs and it is imperative that I figure out what those are. Honesty goes a long way in this business (and probably every other business). Finally, good communication and accuracy is a necessity.

Celebrating 10 Years in Business!
Greatest professional accomplishment Celebrating 10 years in business in Jordan and opening a 2nd store in Chanhassen. It has not been easy in the times we live in to survive as a small business. The economy has had so many ups & downs to say the least.
Top 3 keys to success Perseverence & hard work - Don’t give up. It is never easy to start a business, especially retail. A Positive attitude - Smile and put your best self out there. Your customers and your vendors will appreciate it and that is why they will keep coming back. Love what you do - You need to have a passion for what you do in order to be successful. There is stress in every business or job. When you love your job it is far easier to over-come and deall with what ever comes your way.
Where do you find fulfillment outside of work My husband and I have 5 children. We will celebrate 35 years of marriage this fall. Together we own & operate Kreuser Roofing, Inc. The roofing business taught me a lot about running a business which has helped me with Iris Valley.
In my spare time Maybe you are thinking “What spare time?” Well there is not much, but I love to be with my family - we do family dinners as often as we can. I love to travel. We are almost empty nesters so that has freed up some time.
