Fleet efficiency in 2021: a self-fulfilling prophecy

I

t’s only human to wish for better things next year. For reasons we all agree on, that’s especially true for 2020 and 2021.

If we want 2021 to be better, we must make it so – by our optimism and ambition. Our success next year will be a selffulfilling prophecy. There are plenty of opportunities in the fleet and mobility space that will generate efficiency: electrification, smart mobility and connectivity to name but a few.

Steven Schoefs Chief Editor

These trends are no longer ‘emerging’, they’re accelerating. Why? Our mindset as fleet and mobility leaders has changed – as have employee expectations and company culture. Now more than ever, efficiency is key, safety is paramount, working from home is real and work-life balance is crucial. All this ties in with the growing importance of mobility as a benefit. What does this mean for your fleet? Whether benefit or tool vehicles, company cars or commercial vehicles, now is the time to seize opportunities in green, connected, smart and last-mile mobility to drive fleet and mobility efficiency forward. And efficiency is what we are all longing for and what your Fleet Europe media will help you with. Welcome to the Fleet Europe Directory 2021 – your guide to the vehicle fleet and mobility suppliers who can support fleet and mobility efficiency, and therefore also your European strategy goals for 2021 and beyond. Also check our online version at www.fleeteurope.com. Have an ambitious, courageous and healthy 2021!

SUCCESS IN 2021

5 Opportunities for Fleet & Mobility Efficiency 2021 will be better than 2020. Not only for society. Not only when it comes to health and safety, but also for our economy and our Fleet and Mobility ecosystem. Steven Schoefs & Dieter Quartier

A

s expected, last year has seen a major decline in transportation and mobility with a direct impact on investment goals of both fleet managers and fleet suppliers, a decrease of innovation coupled with fewer risktaking, and the inevitable increased attention for cost-efficiency. The impact of the pandemic is likely to reverberate throughout the first half of 2021. Still, the return to the New Normal needs to come with some imperatives to make it successful, i.e. Fleet & Mobility Efficient.

1. Working From Home

If there is one good thing 2020 has taught us, it is the feasibility and added value of Working From Home. According to a recent study with EU companies from Boston Consulting Group, commissioned by Microsoft, only 15% of companies had flexible work policies before the pandemic. By the summer of 2020 that figure increased to close to 80%. And no less than 88% mentioned they expect a hybrid form of remote working to continue after the pandemic ends. The concept of Working From Home has made us realise that business travel can be immensely reduced, with time efficiency and cost-savings as low-hanging fruit. Without questioning the importance of business travel and the company car, it is for sure the newest benefit in the mobility package of employees, leading to a new decision-taking dimension between Fleet, Procurement and HR. In this equation the latter will gain more power in deciding how the company culture and employee expectations need to be translated in a Fleet and Mobility scheme, involving Procurement – that will continue to focus on cost-efficiency – in an early stage.

2. Flexibility in Leasing and Mobility

The company car will not disappear – it will only be embedded in an adapted, more intelligent and cost-efficient set-up. This new constellation will come with increased flexibility, both

/4

regarding mobility modes and the contract. For benefit fleets one could expect other mobility modes to play a bigger role, with micro- and last-mobility solutions in cities; and once we have returned to the New Normal, shared mobility will resume business as usual and thrive. Not surprisingly, fleet suppliers like OEMs and leasing and rental companies are launching flexible solutions to meet the needs of the new generation Fleet and Mobility managers and employees. In the face of the pandemic, companies have been trying to set up a strategy and policy that is less dependent on fixed longterm contracts. Flexible and diversified financing of the mobility assets for their employees are what they desire. Does this mean outsourcing and full-service leasing are in danger? Not in the least. Having mobility managed by third-party specialists and having the burden and financial risks carried by a leasing company is still a sound strategy. After a dramatic 2020, a year in which most leasing companies urged customers to extend contracts, there will most certainly be a boom in new company car contracts in 2021 in Europe, according to executives of the biggest leasing companies.

3. Green is your colour

But these new company cars will be greener than ever before. Not only because the EU will continue to push OEMs to drive down CO2 emissions, resulting in a tsunami of plug-in hybrids and BEVs, but also because employees are conscious of their individual impact on the planet and want to make a personal effort. EVs have also become a cornerstone in CSR and in a company’s HR policy. In some cases, they are leverage in the recruitment process. CFOs will be happy to see that as battery technology evolves and cell prices come down, TCO parity closes in – in some countries, EVs are already cheaper to run thanks to subvention

Companies that find the right Mobility as a Benefit package, are best prepared to attract and retain talent and create success in 2021.

schemes. In the case of PHEVs, much depends on the charging discipline and possibilities – there is no economic or ecological sense in driving a PHEV with an empty battery. Companies cannot afford to skate on thin ice – a through pre-analysis and driver profiling is an absolute must. A key takeaway from this year’s Fleet Europe Summit in this respect is that many fleet managers are unaware of the solutions that are already in place. Also, myths and false assumptions seem hard to do away with. If anything, corporates need to start pilots to convince their stakeholders of the feasibility of electric driving. Let’s do it!

4. Efficiency in Fleet – connectivity

But whatever you do, do it wisely. To measure is to know, especially when seeking efficiency in terms of cost optimisation and utilisation of your fleet and the mobility solutions you have integrated. The best way to measure is to adopt telematics to generate and analyse data of your fleet, your drivers and their behaviour. This is certainly true when going for new initiatives like fleet electrification, shared or on-demand mobility. Despite reluctance based on privacy issues, the majority of fleet managers in our community are convinced about the added value of connectivity, as our Global Fleet Survey 2020

shows. The good news is that today’s telematics and connected technology companies are including new services and consultancy in their offering and that they are more closely collaborating with leasing and management providers in the industry, enhancing the capabilities to know your fleet and mobility in real time and plan the actions you need for efficiency accordingly.

5. Mobility as a Benefit The pandemic has questioned the relevance and hit the popularity of both shared mobility and public transport, but it has underpinned the importance of a healthy and safe mobility with an increase in micro- and bike-mobility. Hence today’s fleet managers with activities in Europe’s biggest cities, and a workforce that cares for a healthy work-life balance and respect for the environment, need to transform their Fleet programme into a Mobility strategy in 2021. Not that New Mobility will take the place of the company car; it will not be considered an alternative, but rather an add-on to the company car. Companies that find the right answer to the new employee benefit expectations, of which mobility is an important one, are best prepared to attract and retain talent and create success in 2021. ❚

Arval was founded in 1989 and is fully owned by BNP Paribas, within the Group, Arval sits within its Retail Banking & Services division.

Arval Products & Services In October 2020, Arval launched its new strategy Arval Beyond: a five-year plan with a strong ambition: not only strengthening its historical business model (full-service leasing), but going beyond it to become the industry benchmark in terms of sustainable mobility solutions. Four new offers have been created: • 360° Mobility: 360° Mobility transforms Arval from a car-centric company into a mobility company. It ensures Arval provides all its corporate clients and their employees, in all its geographies, with the sustainable and state-of-the-art mobility options they need, such as e-bike leasing, Car sharing & Micro-Mobility Solutions, MaaS applications, etc. • Good for you, Good for all: Arval aims to become a key leader in the energy transition and sustainability by helping customers to protect the environment and create safer roads. In addition to its road safety programmes, Arval offers a reduction in insurance premium for vehicles equipped with Advanced Driver Assistance System. • Connected & Flexible: Arval is building a simpler and highly connected leasing offer. Based on a combination of new technologies and services, it will enable drivers to enter a new era of mobility with a much simpler driving experience. With Connected & Flexible, Arval offers new services such as automatic payment of street parking, remote booking of car washes, in-car delivery of packages that do not require the driver’s presence, voice assistant services (to find a garage or gas station, request assistance), etc. • Arval Inside: Since the creation of Arval in 1989, partnerships have been part of its DNA, starting with banks and car manufacturers, and now extending to other stakeholders. Arval Inside is a mindset: it’s about sharing Arval’s strongest areas of expertise with selected partners, to jointly build enriched and innovative mobility offers that perfectly fit the needs of clients in a win-win-win collaboration..

"Be prepared or run into difficulties"

STEFFEN KRAUTWASSER 2020 European Green Fleet Manager of the Year Company Title Global fleet size Responsible for nr of vehicles

SAP SE Head of Global Car Fleet 27,000 27,000

What is the initiative/achievement you have realised in the context of the Award that you are most proud of and why?

What is your main tip for peers that are seeking to create efficiency in the topic related to your Award?

Keeping the focus on the sustainable company strategy is always key. I’m very proud that the pilot project ‘flexible mobility’ (a virtual mobility budget instead of a company car) was the start of a real alternative to a company car, independent of the power train.

The whole industry is changing. Your employees will ask you for more sustainable options, so either you are prepared or you run into difficulties. Be open to change, create your own vision and start small with projects to get your own experience.

What does the Award mean for your organisation and how will it help you drive forward your programme in 2021-2022? The award is a great appreciation for the whole car fleet team and for SAP. It shows that we are on the right way towards sustainable mobility for our employees. Sustainability is also key for our product development like Climate21 or Digital Vehicle Hub. Philips Global Commodity Manager Mobility 12,000+ 12,000+

What is the initiative/achievement you have realised in the context of the Award that you are the most proud of and why? Future local mobility projects are the biggest contributor to my strategy to transform from fleet to mobility management. Together with HR, Finance and Sustainability we built the House of Mobility,

to continue to electrify our fleet, continue to roll out more flexible mobility solutions and continue to optimise the tooling to plan, book and pay for mobility.

creating commitment and ambition levels for flexible, sustainable and cost-effective mobility. We defined personas with their own key mobility solutions, taking into account flexibility, sustainability and cost-effectiveness.

What is your main tip for peers that are seeking to create efficiency in the topic related to your Award? To create efficiency, you first need to have full visibility on all mobility data. You need to know who travels and how they travel. This data includes all business travel expenses, leased-car data and all commuting allowances..

What does the Award mean for your organisation and how will it help you drive forward your programme in 2021-2022? This is a great recognition for how we embed innovation and sustainability into our global mobility strategy. A big boost to continue This award was sponsored by

ONLINE COMPANY PROFILE:

About MOOV As a company operating in the Turkish automotive industry with the same name and structure for over half a century, and a leading player in the development of the sector, Çelik Motor offers innovative services and solutions with its brands Garenta, MOOV, and ikinciyeni.com. MOOV, the leader of the car sharing segment in Turkey, is operating since September 2018, and offering free-moving vehicles to users with a fully digital infrastructure and customerfocused approach. MOOV, the favorite of its users, the so-called MOOVERs, surpassed 2 million rentals in as short as two years, marking a major success. First launched in the megacity Istanbul, MOOV soon tripled its fleet and included Izmir and Ankara in its coverage area in 2020. Available in three major cities via a single app, MOOV cars can be rented for any length of time, whether for 15 minutes or days for intercity travels. In addition to enabling MOOVERS to travel with no extra contact and in line with social distancing guidelines, MOOV also offers an environment-friendly approach by motivating people to drive their own cars less. Studies indicate that the active use of one shared car eliminates 7-10 vehicles from the traffic. People who prefer car sharing also make 11% less mileage than those who drive their own vehicles. Accordingly, MOOV vehicles, which have been rented 2 million times, traveled 6.2 million km less, which in turn saved one thousand tons in CO2 emissions. Users who prefer MOOV cars, which are rented 4,500 times on average every day, instead of driving their own vehicles contribute to lower CO2 emissions. During the Covid-19 pandemic that impacted the whole world and changed everyday habits, MOOV provided a mobility option in its service areas. In the early days of the pandemic, the use of public transportation in Istanbul declined around 85%. At a time when lockdowns were imposed in many cities across the world, MOOV became an important alternative with its fully digital infrastructure and service that enabled isolation, offering a solution to a social issue. A survey conducted among MOOVERs in the days when transportation was restricted due to lockdowns found that 69% were using MOOV in their commutes. During the pandemic, except for the days when curfews were in place, MOOV reached higher revenue volumes compared to the pre-pandemic period. MOOV, favored especially by younger people, who are open to innovations and who follow the latest trends, aims to develop a revenue model by including the users’ vehicles in the system in the mid-term and expand its scope across Turkey to strengthen its position as the leader of car sharing, an important alternative among the mobility models of the future.

ONLINE COMPANY PROFILE:

About let it fleet Wim Buzzi and Alain Duez, together having a combined experience of over 45 years in all aspects of fleet management, put their heads together during the 2020 lockdown, resulting in the birth of “let it fleet”. As Elon Musk says “One doesn’t create companies for the sake of creating companies, but to get things done.” And that is exactly what happens at let it fleet. This comprehensive and deep automotive and fleet expertise is bundled together to support F&M professionals and partner up: always thinking outside of the classic box. While let it fleet’s pillars do sound like classic ones, one should not be mistaken: Wim and Alain take the concept of People, Procurement and Process to the next level. New times call for new ways and let it fleet strongly believes that every F&M manager and the departments working with them, like HR and Procurement, will benefit from their partnership by providing a new concept of tailored strategic and operational support. While some say pure fleet consulting is obsolete, let it fleet believes we are still far away from that, sound fleet management today remains, until further notice, the foundation for tomorrow’s successful mobility management. The message is clear: if you are a F&M professional seeking for Innovative support during these challenging times: There will be answer… let it fleet!

ONLINE COMPANY PROFILE:

About Maserati SpA Luxury, sport and style expressed through unique cars. This is Maserati’s mission and it has always pursued that mission by creating high-performance automobiles with timeless Italian style, bespoke interiors, and effortless power with a signature sound. Maserati was founded in Bologna, Italy in 1914. Alfieri Maserati joined forces with his brothers Ettore and Ernesto to open a car engineering workshop called “Officine Alfieri Maserati” at number 1A on via de’ Pepoli. In 1926 Maserati was transformed from a workshop that modified or developed cars built by other companies into a company designing, constructing and selling its own. The first car to bear the Trident Brand was built in 1926. It was the Tipo 26, a racing car which debuted at the Targa Florio that same year, winning first place in the class up to 1.5 L, with Alfieri Maserati at the wheel. This was the first in a long series of successes, including two consecutive editions of the Indianapolis 500 (1939 and 1940), four consecutive victories in the Targa Florio (1937, 1938, 1939 and 1940), nine F1 wins and the 1957 F1 World Championship with Juan Manuel Fangio. At the end of the 1930s, following its acquisition by Modena-born entrepreneur Adolfo Orsi, Maserati moved to Modena, to its current site on Viale Ciro Menotti 322. Maserati has been part of the Fiat Group since 2005 – now FCA. Maserati produces a complete range of unique cars with an amazing personality, immediately recognisable anywhere. With their style, technology and innately exclusive character, they delight the most discerning, demanding tastes and have always been a global automotive industry benchmark. A tradition of successful cars, each of them redefining what makes an Italian sports car in terms of design, performance, comfort, elegance and safety, currently available on more than 70 markets internationally. Ambassadors of this heritage are the Quattroporte flagship, the Ghibli sports sedan, now also available in hybrid version, the Trident Brand’s first electrified car, and the Levante, the first made by Maserati SUV. A complete range, including V6 and V8 petrol, 4 cylinder hybrid and V6 diesel powerplants, with rear-wheel and four-wheel drive. The range’s prestige was recently even further enhanced by the introduction of the new Trofeo Collection, comprising Ghibli, Quattroporte and Levante, equipped with the powerful 580 hp V8 engine. The top-of-the-range is the new MC20 super sports car, powered by the ground-breaking Nettuno V6 engine, incorporating F1-derived technologies now made available in the power unit of a standard production car for the first time. All new Maserati models are 100% developed, engineered and built in Italy. Today, the Maserati range is produced at three plants: Ghibli and Quattroporte are built at Grugliasco (Turin) at the Avvocato Giovanni Agnelli Plant (AGAP), and Levante at the Mirafiori Plant in Turin. The new MC20 super sports car is produced in Modena, at the historic Viale Ciro Menotti plant.

About SIXT SIXT is one of the biggest providers of high-quality mobility services within Europe and the US. With its products, the company offers a unique, integrated range of mobility services for private and corporate customers in the areas of short-, mid- and longterm car rental, car sharing, car subscription and pre book and on demand ride services. With SIXT+, the new all-inclusive car subscription product, SIXT offers a real alternative to the classic company car and solves a central problem that fleet managers regularly face: making the currently stiff company car fleet more flexible. In contrast to classic alternatives, SIXT+ offers the company maximum flexibility. The immediate availability within a few days and the short minimum term of just 30 days, paired with the monthly cancellation option, provide decision-makers and fleet managers with powerful tools to increase flexibility and reduce costs. In addition, the all-inclusive package at a fixed monthly rate makes the actual total costs of the vehicle much more transparent. Overall, SIXT+ thus reduces financial risks, capital commitment and often shortens the balance sheet as, in contrast to classic measures, subscription vehicles of this type often must not be activated in the balance sheet of the company. Likewise, the subscription with its customizable features, is the perfect tool for employee motivation and retention.

ONLINE COMPANY PROFILE:

About IMS IMS (Insurance & Mobility Solutions) works with shared mobility operators from traditional vehicle rental firms and car clubs to leasing and service, maintenance and repair (SMR) providers. We deliver connected solutions which help optimise operational efficiency, reduce cost and improve customer experience. Bringing together a data source-agnostic telematics platform and a suite of products and support services, our solutions offer flexibility in the fastevolving world of connected fleets. And through our work with governments and partnerships with vehicle OEMs, we are helping to shape the future of connected mobility. In the world of leasing and SMR, IMS is experienced in helping these fleet-focused mobility companies leverage the power of telematics data to completely transform their businesses from reactive approaches to proactive and predictive operations. To date, the overwhelming majority of leasing and SMR companies continue to use manual information-gathering methods in their workflow, such as contacting vehicle owners to obtain mileage data, using imprecise estimates of mileage based on prior averages, or applying fixed schedules by date only. In these cases, guesswork unfortunately replaces real-time data in the fulfillment of contractual obligations for determining how many miles a vehicle has driven, whether a major service interval is approaching, or if a warranty service requirement is being overlooked. Leasing organizations can take advantage of our experience using real-time vehicle-based and driver behavior data to enhance business decision-making, ensuring the correct resale value of vehicles at end of lease. Leasing companies can improve operations further by leveraging our telematics data in their SMR network, providing new revenue streams, and enhancing partnerships for the long-term. For SMRs, upgrading their workflow to incorporate IMS’ proven data-centric model addresses many service scheduling challenges, and puts the SMR in an ideal position to identify pending mechanical issues, initiate repair work before problems escalate and maximize the uptime of client fleet vehicles. Upgrading leasing and SMR workflows to incorporate IMS’ telematics data-centric solutions can address many current fleet customer challenges by providing live, real-time data that enables the leasing and SMR company to better support their corporate accounts - eliminating surprises for both firm and fleet customer, and decreasing the risk of future lost business due to disputes. Key IMS telematics data-based products available to leasing and SMRs organizations include: • Mileage and vehicle health data, including remote diagnostic analysis. • Accident detection, first notice of loss (FNOL) and connected claims handling. • Driver behavior analysis. • Stolen vehicle recovery. About TraXall International Limited Your International Fleet & Mobility Partner TraXall International is the independent leader in outsourced fleet & mobility management services. We manage in excess of €6 billion assets and 200,000 vehicles, delivering our customers’ global strategies through expert local and international teams across 30 countrybased businesses. Challenging the ‘Norm’ & Saving You Money Reducing supplier numbers and leveraging buying power works well with OEMs, but not always so well for vehicle leasing. Instead of a ‘snapshot in time’ tender process to select suppliers, TraXall’s “best price every time” continuous e-auction platform brings sole supply simplicity with ongoing competition, lowering prices. Suppliers win vehicles on merit, not by being the only supplier, which means you never pay too much and your costs stay lower for longer. Stability & Certainty Rarely has this been more important. As technologies change, and we exit the pandemic, businesses need to be cost-focused. With PHEV/BHEV uptake increasing, leasing company pricing continues to show large variances due to different opinions on residual values and maintenance budgets. TraXall removes that problem. We drive out cost, work with you to achieve your objectives, create great user experiences and satisfy your stakeholders.

ONLINE COMPANY PROFILE:

About Volkswagen Financial Services AG A steady increase in international requests for vehicle proposals has been observed for several years now. Multinational companies are striving to harmonise their global fleets by restricting themselves to a few vehicle manufacturers as partners. This enables them to reduce both the complexity and the cost of their fleet business. The core business of Volkswagen Financial Services also includes support for internationally operating fleet managers - from tender and implementation management to international fleet reporting. This comprehensive range of products and services is able to satisfy all the fleet requirements of the Volkswagen Group’s major customers, however extreme or wide-ranging even in the brand-independent leasing business. The international fleet experts at Volkswagen Financial Services are ready to help you in a total of 37 countries when it comes to finding a transnational fleet management concept for your company. Take advantage of our many years of experience and our knowledge of the different circumstances and conditions that prevail in the individual countries. On the basis of your requirements, our International Fleet experts liaise with the local companies involved and present you with an individual mobility solution for your fleet. We welcome the chance to support you with our diverse and internationally harmonised services on-site, regionally and across country borders. Your administrative costs are significantly reduced by our management of the international tenders and bids from a central point and by our coordination of all processes and information. Our international key account managers are your central points of contact and will look after you and all matters relating to the services for your fleet. We take over the central implementation of the fleet management services in your vehicle fleet and ensure that everything runs smoothly through our local points of contact. Throughout the entire implementation phase, our staff offer individual care and support on-the-spot - without language barriers getting in the way. Our strengths at a glance: • International fleet competence in 37 countries • International tender management • International fleet reporting • Harmonised products and processes • International key account and implementation managers • Crossbrand leasing • International fleet management services
