Clarity: An Exploration of Work in Glass by British Artists 28 March – 4 October

Artists: Matt Durran, Jerome Harrington, Helen Maurer, Richard Wheater, Emma Woffenden, Jeff Zimmer

Work by six of the country’s leading artists who create artwork using glass. Approaches to Studio Glass have changed significantly over the last twenty years, here we explore how the traditional beautiful object on a plinth has given way to works that may use glass as part of a process, working towards a finished piece that does not include the physical object. Illuminated glass takes on new meaning when used to express contemporary views and light, transience and motion are themes linked to glass that, when captured by the artist, become beautifully mesmerising.

Rhian Haf: Light Perceptions 28 March – 4 October Long Gallery

Glass and Ceramics Degree Show 13 –18 June Private view: 12 June

Inge Panneels: The Map-i: Blue Marble Project 28 March – 5 July Long Gallery

Rhian Haf is an artist working in the early stages of her career. She is already widely recognised for extremely sensitive and atmospheric work.

View work by the country’s most talented up and coming glass and ceramics artists at Made, the University of Sunderland’s Glass and Ceramics Degree show.

A series of new glass works inspired by aerial photography and maps, exploring the relationship between the 2D map and the 3D globe. The title references the iconic image of the Earth taken from Space by the Apollo 17 spacecraft in 1972.
