FAMILY ACTIVITIES Our range of creative activities are perfect for fidgety fingers! Get hands on with glass craft activities and special activities relating to our exhibitions. Our Drop-in and Bookable Family Workshops run throughout the school holidays. INTRODUCING Our series of one-off taster workshops, ideal for beginners, are designed to offer an affordable first insight into a specific glass or ceramic technique. Suitable for age 16 +. Booking essential unless otherwise stated. Fused Glass Date: 3 February Time: 18.00 - 21.00 Price: £20 An introduction to fusing glass in the kiln. This taster session will teach you how to handle and cut glass to create your own unique coloured glass pieces such as coasters and jewellery then basic kiln firing techniques. Look out for the five week course for you to progress onto. Artist: Sue Woolhouse Mosaic Jewellery Date: 12 February Time: 18.00 - 21.00 Price: £25 In this taster session you will set tiny coloured glass beads into pre –made pendant shapes and string them on to a cord to take home and wear, or even give as a present. Look out for the follow on five week course. Artist: Janet HinchliffeMcCutcheon Ignite Flame working Date: 22 February Time: 10.00 - 16.00 Price: £50 This course will explore a range of flame working techniques using borosilicate glass. Students will work with solid glass rods to make pendants, marbles, and miniature sculptural forms to take home. Artist: Zoe Garner
Glass Engraving Date: 1 March Time: 13.00 - 16.00 Price: £35 This introduction to engraving on glass will show you how to apply a design to a glass by choosing appropriate burrs to achieve the desired effect. You will have a finished engraved glass to take away with you. Artist: Sandra Snaddon
Stained Glass Date: 8 March Time: 13.00 - 16.30 Price: £50 7th Century Saint Benedict Biscop brought artisans from Europe to create MonkwearmouthJarrow Priory. Learn the ancient skills of how to cut and lead glass, to create a beautiful small stained glass panel of your own. Artist: Gillian McGinley. Decal Transfers Date: 15 March Time: 13.00 - 15.00 Price: £20 During this workshop, you will be able to handle and select from a range of supplied transfers. Glass cutting will be covered, so that you can make your own glass pieces with a unique transfer to take home. Artist: Sue Woolhouse

MAKE YOUR OWN One-off glass and ceramics workshops for people of all abilities. Develop the skills needed to create a finished piece by the end of the day. Suitable for age 16 +. Microwave Jewellery Date: 22 February and 5 April Time: 13.00 - 16.00 Price: £25 Use a basic microwave oven to fuse glass shards into glass pieces to use as pendants for embellishment. Artist: Karin Walland Flame Worked Marbles Date: 1 March Time: 10.00 - 16.00 Price: £50 Combine clear and coloured glass to form traditional marbles using specialist tools and flame working techniques. Artist: Zoe Garner All That Glitters Is Glass Date: 22 March Time: 10.00 - 16.00 Price: £80 Create your own individual glass jewellery using flame working techniques. This class will focus on techniques to make components for jewellery using borosilicate glass both coloured and clear. Bend Me Shape Me Date: 5 April Time: 10.00 - 16.00 Price: £60 Through a combination of demonstrations and free practice time, this class will explore natural forms, drawing inspiration from the beautiful local environment. Starting from basics you will build a vocabulary creating organic sculptural components, experimenting with clear glass made molten in the flame to create plant forms from land and sea. WEEKLY COURSES Take time to develop your design ideas and hone your skills to produce stunning results, under the expert guidance of our skilled local artists. Suitable for age 16 +. Booking essential unless otherwise stated. Silver Jewellery Club (Morning) Date: Mondays, 5 weeks, 24 February – 24 March Time: 10.00 - 13.30 Price: £105 Produce your own stunning silver jewellery. Artist: Midori Shinmura Mosaic Jewellery and Band Rings Date: Wednesdays, 5 weeks, 26 February - 26 March Time: 18.00 - 21.00 Price: £110 Make your own pendant shapes in copper or silver and create more adventurous designs with glass mosaic beads. You will even make mosaics with small cut up pieces of coloured glass sheet. In addition each person will be shown how to make a band ring with some surface decoration by trying it out in copper first before making one in silver. Artist: Janet Hinchliffe-McCutcheon. Glass Jewellery Club (Morning) Date: Thursdays, 5 weeks, 27 February - 27 March Time: 10.00 - 13.30 Glass Jewellery Club (Evening) Date: Thursdays, 5 weeks, 27 February - 27 March Time: 17.45 - 21.15 Price: £110 An opportunity to take advantage of our fabulous facilities, tools and materials, to make your own unique glass jewellery. Artistic Fused Glass Date: Mondays, 5 weeks, 3 March - 31 March Time: 18.00 - 21.00 Price: £115 Learn about the technical aspects of glass fusing and explore your own aesthetic ideas in a supportive and professional environment. Starting with glass cutting techniques, you will then be introduced to tech fusing, full fusing, basic decal application alongside an introduction to annealing schedules. The work will be fired in between the classes and by the end of the course you should have a series of exciting and individual glass pieces to keep. It is recommended that particpants have some basic experience of fusing glass or have attended our Introducing...Fused Glass Workshop. Artist: Sue Woolhouse Glass Engraving Date: Tuesdays, 5 weeks, 4 March - 1 April Time: 18.00 - 21.00 Price: £110 An opportunity to learn from the region’s best Glass Engraving artists in this five week course. We provide all the tools and equipment so that you can learn new skills and techniques to create your own beautiful pieces to take home. Full Day Glass Blowing Experiences Available throughout the year Price: £179 Age: 13+ Take a full day to learn the basic skills and techniques of working with hot glass. Blow a selection of glass objects including paperweights, bowls, vases and baubles to take home and keep. This special, intensive day long experience allows you the time and space to progress at your own pace with our friendly, expert glass makers and is not available anywhere else in the UK at this price.
