Cassandra Cobb is the daughter of Guy & Donnita Cob. Cassandra will be a 2020 graduate of Monroe Central High School. She is a member of the Monroe Central Modern Achievers and Monroe Central Challengers 4-H Club. Abigail Alka is the daughter of Mike & Amy Alka. Abigail is a member of the Randolph Southern Grand Champions and Randolph Riders 4-H Clubs. She is a recent graduate of Randolph Southern High School. During her 10 year 4-H career Abigail has participated in the following projects: horse & pony, floriculture, gift wrapping, pocket pets, reading, scrapbook, arts & crafts, aquatic science, cake decorating, dog obedience, dog agility and sheep. Throughout high school, Abigail participated in National Honor Society, Student Council, Cross Country, English Academic Team, Social Studies Academic Team, Interdisciplinary Academic Team, FFA, Foreign Language Club, Book Club, Spirit Club, Prom Committee, 4-H Ambassador, Youth Salute and Homecoming Committee. This fall Abigail will attend Purdue University to pursue a degree in agriculture communications.
Ashley Baldwin is the daughter of Douglas & Lisa Baldwin. Ashley is a 2019 graduate of Winchester Community High School. She is a member of the White River Blue Ribbon 4-H club. Ashley’s project interest has been swine. Her high school activities include: varsity choir, golden tones, tennis, musicals, videographer, yearbook and National Honor Society. Ashley plans to attend Ball State University and major in elementary education.
Emma Baldwin is the daughter of Justin & Kari Baldwin. She is a 2019 graduate of Winchester Community High School. Emma is a member of the White River Blue Ribbon 4-H Club. Her 4-H projects include: sheep, swine, scrapbook, and sewing. While in high school Emma was active in cheerleading, track & field, academic team, Spanish club, yearbook, FCA, FFA, National Honor Society, student council, musical, competition dance team at Dixie’s dance studio, youth group, Mountain Top Mission Trip, girls bible study and YMCA sharks swim team. Emma’s future plans are to attend Ball State University Honors College to study exercise science and pre-physical therapy.
Cole Barker is the son of Jeff and Kellie Barker. Cole attend Randolph Southern High School and will graduate in 2020. Cole belongs to the Shooting Sports, Rabbit Ears and Randolph Southern Grand Champions 4-H Clubs. During his 4-H tenure Cole participated in shooting sports, photography, Junior Leaders and rabbits. Cole’s high school activities include: cross country, track, archery, Youth Salute, girls basketball manager, FCA, National Honor Society and SADD club. Upon graduation Cole will be attending college to study accounting.

Maria’s future plans are to attend Belmont University in Nashville, Tennessee to major in creative writing and double minor in dance and theater.
Brooke Bond is the daughter of Robert and Shawnda Bond. She is a 2019 graduate of Monroe Central Jr. Sr. High School. Brooke is a member of the Randolph Riders and White River Blue Ribbon 4-H Clubs. During her 4-H career Brooke’s project interests included: foods, shooting sports, photography, dog, poultry, horse & pony, and goats. While in high school Brooke participated in cross country, NASP archery, FFA, and interscholastic equine association. Brooke plans on attending IVY Tech in Richmond to study animal genetics and then transfer to Wilmington College.
Landon Bowlin is the son of Kurt and Cara Bowlin. He is a 2019 graduate of Randolph Southern High School. Landon is a member of the Randolph Southern Grand Champions 4-H Club. His 4-H projects include: Swine, Beef and Dairy Feeder Calves. During his high school career Landon participated in basketball, archery, Richmond Area Career Center where he was enrolled in the Precision machining program. Landon’s future plans are to continue working at Belden.
Makenna Briggs is the daughter of Mandy & Stacey Briggs. She is a 2019 graduate of Monroe Central High School. Makenna is a member of the Monroe Central Traditions 4-H Club. Makenna’s project interests include: sewing, foods, consumer clothing, gift wrapping, horse and rabbits. Makenna plans on attending Indiana University East to pursue a degree in physical therapy.

Lucas Chamberlain is the son of Wendy Whitlow and Bill Chamberlain. He is a 2019 graduate of Randolph Southern High School. Lucas is a member of the Randolph Southern Grand Champions 4-H Club. While in 4-H Lucas participated in swine, dairy beef and rabbits. Lucas’s high school activities include basketball, golf and FFA. Lucas plans to attend a tech school to become a diesel mechanic.
Sydney Conn is the daughter of Kim and Gary Conn. She is a recent graduate of Winchester Community High School. Sydney is a member of White River Blue Ribbon and Winchester 4-H Clubs. During her 10 year 4-H career Sydney’s project interests have included: poultry, junior leaders, swine, foods, scrapbooking, arts & crafts, and recycling. During her high school career Sydney participated in Spanish cub, history club, student council, student body president, FFA, FCA, FCCLA, earth club, S.A.D.D., academic team, National Honor Society, Key Club, Youth Salute, golden era yearbook, youth group, 4-H, musical, cheerleading, track, and competition dance. She was Mardi Queen, Lilly Scholar and a Coca-Cola scholar. Her future plans are to attend DePauw University in the fall with a major in biochemistry.

Reagan will also be continuing her cross country and track career.
Katlynn House is the daughter of Bryon & Lisa House. Katlynn is a graduate of Randolph Southern High School. She is a member of the Randolph Southern Grand Champions. During her 4-H tenure Katlynn participated in swine, dairy, photography, aquatic science, cake decorating and gift wrapping. During her high school years Katlynn was involved as class president, student council president, SADD club, national honor society, spirit club, FFA, Spanish club, Youth salute, volleyball, basketball, and track & field. This fall Katlynn plans to attend IVY Tech for elementary education with a focus in special education.
Will Hunt is the son of Trent Hunt and Stacy Hunt. Will graduated from Randolph Southern High School. He is a member of the Randolph Southern Grand Champions 4-H Club. During his 4-H years Will participated in beef, swine and he also has had the tallest corn. While attending Randolph Southern Will was active in FFA and basketball. Will’s future plans include staying here in Randolph County and help the family farm grow.
Zachary Jessee is the son of Larry & Cheryl Jessee. He is a 2019 graduate of Randolph Southern High School. Zach is a member of the Randolph Southern Grand Champions 4-H Club. As a 4-H member he showed swine. While in high school he played basketball. Zach’s future plans are to work at Miller’s pipeline.

Lynsie King is the daughter of Joyce King. Lynsie is a recent graduate of Monroe Central. Lynsie is a member of the Monroe Central Challengers, Rabbit Ears, Randolph County Junior Leaders and Shooting sports 4-H clubs. Lysine’s 4-H interests are beef, rabbits, poultry, swine, photography, arts & crafts, shooting sports and junior leaders. Lynsie’ s school activities include: 11 years of dance, 5 years of dancing competitively, National Honor Society, Spanish club, art club, science club, FCA and student advisory at the MACC. Lynsie will continue her education at Ivy Tech and will study dental hygiene.
Dwight Ledbetter is the son of John & Jenny Ledbetter. Dwight is a 2019 graduate of Randolph Southern High School. He is a member of the Randolph Southern Grand Champions 4-H Club. During his 4-H career Dwight participated in rabbits, swine, shooting sports and woodworking. While in high school Dwight participated in FFA, archery, basketball and wrestling. His future plans are to attend Owens College in the John Deere Ag. Tech Program.

Dylan Peed is the son of Sean and Jacqueline Peed. Dylan is a recent graduate of Winchester Community High School. Dylan is a member of the White River Blue Ribbon 4-H Club. During his 10 years in 4-H Dylan participated in the following projects: Electric, Arts & Crafts, Swine, Beef and Dairy Beef. While in high school Dylan’s activities were football, wrestling, track, National Honor Society and FFA. This fall Dylan will be attending Purdue University to pursue a degree in Agribusiness Management. His future plans are to be a seed salesman.
Sydney Ralston is the daughter of Lee and Angel Ralston. She is a 2019 graduate of Union City High School. Sydney is a member of the Randolph Riders 4-H club. Her project interest has been horse and pony. During high school Sydney participated in Student Council, DECA, SADD, National Honor Society, cheerleading, volleyball and tennis. Sydney’s future plans are to attend Purdue University and enter the exploratory studies program.
Drew Reed is the son of Mike & Karla Reed. He is a 2019 graduate of Winchester Community High School. Drew is a member of the White River Blue Ribbon 4-H Club. Drew’s 4-H project interests include: Beef, Swine, Sheep, Goats, Poultry, Electric, Woodworking, Photography, Arts & Crafts, Animal Science, Vet Science, Health, Crops, Gardening, Forestry, Rabbits and Public Speaking. During his high school career Drew participated in FFA, Key Club, FCA, Earth Club, German Club, History Club, National Honor Society, Youth Salute, Black Pack and was a blood donor. Drew will be attending Purdue University to study agricultural education.
Garrett Wagner is the son of Brian and Janell Wagner. He is a recent graduate of Winchester Community High School. Garrett is a member of the White River Blue Ribbon 4-H Club. While in 4-H Garrett participated in swine, goats, beef and shooting sports. While in high school his activities included: FFA, FCA, National Honor Society, Key Club, Earth Club, baseball and tennis. Garrett plans to attend Purdue University this fall and study agribusiness.
Abigail Welch is the daughter of Lucas & Kirsten Welch. Abigail is a member of the Union City Lucky Charms. She is a 2019 graduate of Welch Academy. As a 4-H member Abigail participated in the following projects: Arts & Crafts – fine arts and needlecraft, floral design, ceramics, wearable art, recycled arts, other crafts; Cake decorating; Consumer clothing; Floriculture; Foods – baked & preserved; Genealogy; Gift wrapping; Home environment; Jr. Leaders; Microwave foods; Photography – Color, black & white & experimental; Rabbits; Reading; Recycling; Scrapbooking; Sewing – wearable, non-wearable, fashion revue; Sheep; Shooting sports – archery, shotgun, muzzleloader, rifle and pistol; Wildlife; and Wood working. During her high school years Abbie sang in church youth choir. The also helped with various church activities and the Randolph County Christian Home Educator’s homeschool group. She had handson learning working on a hog farm the last five years. She acted as a home health assistant to family and friends. She graduated with honors and well over fifty credits. Abigail will marry Elijah Wallace in October. They will start married life in Bloomington, Indiana and see what the Lord has planned for them.
Gannon Whitesel is the son of Brad and Randi Whitesel. He is a recent graduate of Randolph Southern High School. Gannon’s 4-H projects include beef and shooting sports. During his high school years Gannon participated in FFA, FCA, basketball, wrestling and golf. Gannon’s future plans are to attend Vincennes University and major in the John Deere Diesel Ag Tech program. Dalton Winas is the son of Chad Winas and Teresa Davis. Dalton is a 2019 graduate of Monroe Central High School. He is a member of the Monroe Central Showman. Dalton project interest during his ten years has been swine. During high school Dalton participated in cross country, track, wrestling and basketball. Dalton’s future plans are to become a firefighter, EMS and a fitness coach.

The foundations of 4-H began in 1902 with the work of several people in different parts of the United States. The focal point of 4-H has been the idea of practical and handson learning, which came from the desire to make public school education more connected to rural life. Early programs incorporated both public and private resources. 4-H was founded with the purpose of instructing rural youth in improved farming and farm-homemaking practices. By the 1970s, it was broadening its goals to cover a full range of youth, including minorities, and a wide range of life experiences. During this time researchers at experiment stations of the land-grant universities and USDA saw that adults in the farming community did not readily accept new agricultural discoveries, but educators found that youth would experiment with these new ideas and then share their experiences and successes with the adults. So rural youth programs became a way to introduce new agriculture technology to the adults. Club work began wherever a publicspirited person did something to give rural children respect for themselves and their ways of life and it is very difficult to credit one sole

The fairs were very successful. In 1904, while working for the University of WisconsinMadison and trying to repeat what he had successfully accomplished in Kewaunee County over a decade before but with different intentions, “Daddy” R.A. Moore convinced R.H. Burns, then Superintendent of Schools of Richland County, Wisconsin, to have the Richland County Boys and Girls organize and assist in a cornproject activity to help market and distribute improved seeds to the farmers in the state of Wisconsin (and
of the births of the 4-H program in the United States. The first club was called “The Tomato Club” or the “Corn Growing Club”. T.A. “Dad” Erickson of Douglas County, Minnesota, started local agricultural afterschool clubs and fairs also in 1902. Jessie Field S h a m b a u g h developed the clover pin with an H on each leaf in 1910, and, by 1912, they were called 4-H clubs. Early 4-H programs in Colorado began with youth instruction offered by college agricultural agents as early as 1910, as part of the outreach mission of
the Cooperative Extension Service of the USDA by passage of the SmithLever Act of 1914, it included within the CES charter the work of various boys’ and girls’ clubs involved with agriculture, home economics and related subjects. The Smith-Lever Act formalized the 4-H programs and clubs that began in the midwestern region of the United States. Although different activities were emphasized for boys and girls, 4-H was one of the first youth organizations to give equal attention to both genders (cf., erstwhile Boys Clubs of America).

By 1924, these clubs became organized as 4-H clubs, and the clover emblem was adopted. The first 4-H camp was held in Randolph County, West Virginia. Originally, these camps were for what was referred to as “Corn Clubs”. Campers slept in corn fields, in tents, only to wake up and work almost the entirety of each day. Superintendent of schools G. C. Adams began a boys’ corn club in Newton County, Georgia, in 1904. 4-H membership hit an all-time high in 1974 as a result of its popular educational program about nutrition, Mulligan Stew, shown in schools and on television across the country. Today, 4-H clubs and activities are no longer focused primarily on agricultural activities, instead emphasizing personal growth and preparation for lifelong learning. Participation is greatest during the elementary school years, with enrollment in programs and activities peaking in the 4th grade. In the southern United States, in the mid-1960s 4-H began to broaden its programming to cover life experiences unrelated to agriculture. It merged its segregated African American and white programs, but fullfledged integration proved elusive. 4-H was successful in removing genderbased restrictions on participation.
