Celebrating Our Heritage Downtown Kemptvile 1905
Until around 1850, Merrickville-Wolford and Oxford-on-Rideau had one municipal Council to administer both areas. The population was very small and it was easier for the few residents to meet together and legislate for the general locality. They passed resolutions concerning fences, kept census information and made decisions on the economic development of the combined townships.
