Design Response Design started as a triangle shape in elevation. As engaged natural light and roof form, it became more asymmetrical. Also, as I consider the sunlight ‘s effect on my design I developed this final model in which the space gets bigger as you move into it. Project Description Designing a shelter that can create an environment that mediates the harshness of the desert environment.
Design Response The Calligraphy of an Arabic word inspired the design. Mohamed translated from English to Arabic has curves, which connects all the letters together forming the changing of space in the shelter, and transition from one room to the next. The curvaceous elements are displayed inside and out, for example, the way that Mohamed is written in Arabic. In addition, the angle roofs are designed to direct the air through the south direction. This shelter also gives a variety of experiencing the spaces.

Project Description: Designing a space with different level where every floor has its own privacy. Also, the push and pull factors gave the row house variety of space inside and changed the shape of the building. Also, for energy efficiency, the row house has the west side largely open with windows, and east side has less opening because of the house orientation with the sun.

Green space Creating more green space generates a more welcoming atmosphere for people to pass though high automotive trafficked streets, like Vine Street for example. It also creates a define separation of street and sidewalk thus giving off a safer sense to pedestrians. More green in the area can also attract more people and as a result produce less probability for crime. Not to mention the benefits of having more trees and plant life to clean the air.

Project Description: To connect the city with the “West” Chinatown, we need to bring some element from the city, but in modern way. For example, the Head light, building, and renovated row houses could change the atmosphere and the look if we bring them to the Chinatown site. Also designing a square park in the middle of broad and 11th street, it shows the similarity from the four squares park in that placed around the Philadelphia city. Also, the High Concentration of automotive traffic due to connections with frequently popular Asian business that are located in 10th street could bring more people to the square park.

Studio Design 4 Project Description: The project concept was based on a hexagonal form which gives the ability for movement. The hexagon helped create a dynamic roof that is complex, but functions perfectly. The project allows the transformation of a small space into a to a much larger space by moving one part horizontally. Also, by angled the roof, it helps create a thin profile to the wind when in transport.
