Strong and balanced, The Constitution? • Three parts of the Constitution… : Preamable- describe the meaning of the document and government it created. :Article- Tells how the government is made, and how the Constitution can be• altered with amendments. • : Amendments- includes, Bill of Rights and other changes to the Constitution.

Preamble and the purpose. • The Preamble states, “We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union” • This statement means that the power belongs to the people in our government.

• Believe it or not, the rest of the preamble lists goals that our government wants to uphold.

The Frame of Congress • Two chambers of Congress, were created to keep balance between the large and the smaller states. • There are two parts of Congress, House of Representative and the Senate. • Representation of the “House” are based on the state population. In the Senate, each state gets two representatives.

In the coming age of George Washington. • Washington’s first test of authority came in 1791, when the Congress passed the tax on whiskey for money. • Western farmers protested, then in 1794, Washington sent a militia over mountains to cease the protest, Washington in turn made it clear that government will enforce the laws.

The Notorious Expedition! • Lewis and Clark set out from St. Louis in May of 1804, on their long expedition to the Pacific.• Click to edit Master text styles • When the news got around about their famous expedition, Americans helped promote the western settlement.

Unequal Democracy • At the beginning of the US democracy, a WHITE MAN had to own land in order to vote. In 1828 the country abolished that law to were any WHITE MAN could vote. • By involving more people in election campaigns, politics became more democratic.
Differences divide a Union • During the Civil War, the US Nation, divided into two main parts. Who has the winning hand? • At the beginning of the war, both sides were sincerely confident of a swift victory. • Click to edit Master text styles • Though the North had superior resources, the South was very optimistic and had the advantage of fighting a defensive war.

Lincoln’s strategic thinking • In the beginning of the war, Lincolns main priority was to keep the boarder states: Maryland, Delaware, Kentucky, and Missouri. • Maryland in particular, because it surrounds 3 sides of Washington D.C.
