Union Vs. Confederacy

Union Often referred to as the North Another name for the federal Government They were supported by 20 free states and 5 border slave states Well known battle was the Great Skedaddle, was the first battle of the Bull Run

Confederacy Government set up February 8th 1861 by six of the seven slave states that declared secession from the United states. They finally were made up of 11 states.


General Grant Otherwise known as Ulysses S. Grant born April 27, 1822 died on July 23, 1885 He was the 18th President and was a very successful War general in the 2nd half Of the War.


Civil War Diseases More people died from disease than gunshot wounds in the civil war Mostly because of diseases such as; diphtheria, smallpox and malaria But worst of all was dysentery Which killed over 90,000 soldiers All together.


54th Massachusetts Regiment This was a Union Regiment comprised of mostly black soldiers This regiment was mainly Volunteers who recruited Free slaves.


The Anaconda plan Also known as Scotts great snake The plan was proposed By General Winfield Scott The plan called for a movement Down the Mississippi River And blocking the southern ports Basically cutting the south in 2


Missouri Compromise In 1820 the Missouri compromise, which was sponsored by speaker of the house- Henry Clay in the terms that Missouri enter the union And Maine was a free state


Kansas-Nebraska Act Law passed by congress in 1854 To establish Kansas and Nebraska As territories with Popular sovereignty The Act dismayed many Northerners
