The Constitution •

The constitution worked hard to set up a political system that would last and not fail

Framers of the constitution wanted to understand it very well the support towards it was for a reason to make It very organized.

The constitution has 3 parts

1)The preamble , 2) the articles established now the government is structured and how it can be changed through amendment last but not least the 3rd one is amendment includes the bill of rights and other changes to the constitution

Preamble • Preamble is a current introduction explaining the purpose of a document , a legal document. • The preamble to the constitution always begins with we the people “ We the people basically explains the idea of the declaration of independents that government should always derive • The next Phrase “ In order to form a more prefect union , means they wanted to stay together well then fall apart so the union of states became one and a lot stronger • The rest of the preamble list goals for the new government • They also wanted the amendment to provide for the common defense, to protect the country from bad things and against the foreland enemies.

Articles define the power • The whole constitution has 7 main articles • The main 3 structures and power of the 3 parts are legislative , executive and judicial branches • Dividing the government into 3 sets up a strong organized government checks and balances makes sure that no branches comes any stronger then any other but each branch can limit the power of another • Though the checks and balances congress has the power that impeach and convict the president and vice president

Lewis and Clark • Lewis and Clark are two men who explored part of the Louisiana Purchase. They was the first people to officially cross the Louisiana Purchase. They was starting in St. Louis and ending on the Mississippi River. The main reason to do the expedition was to explore and map new territory. The second reason was to study plants, animal life, geography, and establish trade.

Canals, Roads, and Rails: Connecting the Country • With the growth of the economy, it made a spark in transportation. In the mid 1800’s, Americans had started to build roads with stone surfaces. The most toughest project was building a road from Appalachians from Maryland • to the Mississippi River. Although traveling by upstream was a problem. By 1830’s about 200 stream boats was traveling nations waters

Slavery • Slavery became a national issue • By 1819 the numbers of slaves states and and free states was balanced at each other both north and south had any kind of control majority in the senate • If the union must be dissolved slavery is breaks the big question on which it ought to break but for the president however is still very laid to sleep.

Antietam: The Bloodiest Day of the War • After the south tried to turn things back on the north, Robert E. Lee invaded Union territory. When Lee crossed over Potomac River, Lees army came together with the Union forces. This battle was known as the bloodiest one-day battle in all history. More than 20,000 dead/wounded soldiers covered the ground

Challenges for the Southern Leaders • In 1862 the south had passed a law stating that rich plantation owners could avoid military services. The main challenge to southern leaders was balancing money for the war and the southern economy. While the was going on, the south had placed an embargo on cotton. The south had attempted to make European countries recognize the confederacy and help it with arms and money

Elizabeth Van Lew • Elizabeth was just another resident in Richmond. What some people didn’t know was that she was a successful spy for the union. She put her slave, Mary Elizabeth Bowser, as a main in Jefferson Davis’s home. This allowed Bowser and Van Lew access to all the confederate war plans, Van Lew pretended to be crazy so no one would suspect a thing. When union troops finally took Richmond, she dropped the act and is now known as a hero
