FAIRTRADE FORTNIGHT
Bake sale
During Fairtrade Fortnight on the 28th of February the charity reps ran a bake sale; we sold cakes brownies cookies and lots more! Every baked good had at least one Fairtrade item (whether this was Fairtrade sugar or Fairtrade chocolate) and this event helped the school achieve the FairActive Status - which is a part of Fairtrade award Our next goal is to reach the FairAchiever Status This bake sale was extremely successful raising over £150, thanks to all of your generous donations Thank you to everyone who baked something and everyone who bought something!!

Chocolate tasting event
To round up our month of fairtrade activities the Year 10 charity reps put on a chocolate tasting event and quiz Many Year 7 girls came to the event with enthusiasm and eagerness to learn about fairtrade and participate in the chocolate tasting event Everyone chose which fairtrade chocolate bar was their favourite and explained how they were inspired to start buying more fairtrade products We gave a presentation to the girls about what fairtrade was and explained how climate change is affecting farmers immensely making it harder for them to work and grow their crops, focusing on a case study from Côte d’Ivoire and outlined the struggles farmers go through there We finished the event with a kahoot which everyone immersed themselves into We look forward to receiving our FairActive Aaward to sit alongside our FairAware Award after successfully completing this event

Amnesty International Fundraiser
On Friday 10th March the Amnesty Society held its first fundraising event of the term Led by Venus, the event entailed six very generous teachers volunteering to answer questions ranging from ulture to science with a small catch; if they got the question , they would get pied in the face! For an additional fee, we d students to ask their own questions to a teacher of their , so they could pie the teachers themselves this ended up very unfortunate for Mr Khan who seemed to be everyone ’ s er one target The event was very successful generating £120 towards helping women in Afghanistan with their right to tion It was wonderful to see teachers getting involved with y and raising awareness for Amnesty International! A big you to Mr Cryer, Dr Pearce, Mr Khan, Mr Piesse, Mr Rogerssby and Ms McHenry for volunteering for the cause and to the Amnesty Society for organising the event!

On the 21st of March for our volunteering enrichment, we hosted a MenCap Fair including activities of biscuit decorating, colouring and all kinds of arts and crafts: animals made from paper plates and flowers using straws It was a great opportunity to interact with the people from MenCap whilst participating in fun activities

The biscuit-making was definitely the most popular activity however many went home with a straw paper flower made by the volunteers and a brilliant sing-along towards the end of the day This was definitely my favourite part; Mr Head supplied some background music whilst the people of MenCap drummed along to the choir singing ‘Dancing Queen’ and ‘You are my Sunshine’ Some volunteers went the extra mile of accompanying the lyrics with some dance moves, much to the joy of the teachers
Overall, it was a brilliant experience and opportunity to socialise with the people of MenCap and many seemed to have enjoyed the afternoon as well, ending the afternoon with a small snack and sing-along.
