YEAR 11 CHARITY EVENTS
This half term, it was the Year 11's opportunity to raise funds for a charity of their choice - The Felix Project
Bake Sale
The first bake sale went great We had food ranging from cupcakes and brownies to cookies and fudge, along with eggless sweet treats There were Halloween pumpkin cakes and rainbow fudge! Everyone helping out had so much fun whether it was baking or selling, we enjoyed the bake sale and are looking forward to the next one!
Dodgeball in Onesies
On Friday the 7th of October Year 11 put on a charity dodgeball tournament which was a huge success Some teams even made their own personalised t-shirts! The event raised vast amounts of money for the Felix Project, thank you to everyone who took part
Rent a friend
The main purpose of the rent a friend event was designed for people to get to know each other a bit better, with the hopes that it would help people who wanted to have someone to talk to, or get advice Knowing that sometimes it is difficult to talk to your friends about some matters, the rent a friend event allows students to ‘rent’ someone to talk to for a particular amount of time, and in the case of younger years, they can ask for friendship or academic advice from a more experienced and knowledgeable person The rent a friend event was fun: people interacted with each other, and took a break from schoolwork, which can sometimes be overwhelming It was a new idea, but it worked very well!
Below are some comments from a few of the students who 'rented a friend':
This charity event was an opportunity to chat with some very kind and respectable Year 11s who were very helpful in the questions that were asked We asked questions such as: how to get over stage fright when singing, GCSEs in art and a few other things as well They also gave us sweets and brownies It was really nice to get a chance to chat with them, as sometimes it is hard to open up to your friends - Isabella and Rakhi Y8
The Year 11 rent-a-friend charity event was an extremely fun event! It started off by one of the Year 11s presenting each of the Year 11 volunteers and their qualities so you could find whichever one suited your preferences for what you wanted to talk to them about My friends and I decided to take part in this event The first Year 11s that we rented were Megan and Tara, we asked them about debating tips and tricks They had a wide range of knowledge and managed to fulfill our requests and what we wanted to know The final Year 11 that we rented was Salem, we asked her about public speaking and singing She again had a lot of knowledge about these things and also told us about opportunities at school that we could use to practice and develop our skills Overall, this event was a great experience and opportunity, not to mention all the Year 11s were extremely kind and helpful throughout the event - Ajuni Y8
Uganda Sports Collection
The PE department and charities collaborated to collect used sports wear and netballs to donate to various schools clubs and academies in Uganda This is being done in partnership with the Ugandan Netball Team, The She Cranes
We managed to collect just over 40 netballs and 5kg of sports wear to donate, which was taken back to Uganda by The She Cranes on the 10th October
Thank you to the students in Mrs Alonso’s Tuesday enrichment group for raising the money to send off the netballs through a well attended bake sale
