Y10 Fundraising for Women’s Aid
Well done to Y10 for a very successful charity month resulting in over £500 being raised for the work of Women’s Aid.
As a year group, they successfully organised breaktime activities with the Junior School, ran a pink accessory day, held four bake sales! And sold over 447 Candy canes. These festive treats and messages were enjoyed by many members of the school community.
Felicity wrote ‘ we chose Women's Aid as it is a national charity working to end domestic abuse against women and children. We raised money through bake sales and other events, such as planning events for the Junior school to do in their break time. We also organised Christmas candy canes to be sent around the school’.
Preet wrote 'I really enjoyed going to the Junior School and hosting the playground activities. All the children were very enthusiastic and were so excited to take part. We managed to have a lot of fun in this event while also raising money for charity.'
Well done Y10 for all your hard work!
Age UK Food collection
A wonderful array of non-perishable foods was collected from the 22nd to 28th November for Age UK. These donations will be added to other donations to Age UK and delivered to care homes and older people in time for Christmas.
Care 4 Calais winter clothing drive
The successful clothing drive of gloves, scarves, hats and coats for the refugees at Care 4 Calais will be distributed in the coming week to the 1400 new refugees that have been placed around Ealing. Thank you for all your donations.
Carolling for Age UK
On Thursday the 9th of December, a small group of doubly-vaccinated sixth formers will be heading to the Age UK centre in Greenford to spread some festive cheer by performing Christmas carols for the centre’s regulars. Christmas can be an especially lonely period for older people, so hopefully the visitors will enjoy this, and we can show them that they are being thought of this festive season.
Hamper Packing for Age UK
This week several of our students volunteered to help at Age UK. They packed and wrapped the food and gifts we donated as a school into hampers. They enjoyed the activity and appreciated being able to make a di erence towards the older members of our community.
Carmen Y10 wrote ‘Many of us have relatives or friends that have struggled over the past, especially with Covid. We decided that we could help make a di erence this winter by helping Age Uk wrap up some warm clothes and gifts for them’.
Care Home Christmas Cards
Thank you to everyone who made a Christmas card for a local care home. Y7&8 created lovely cards to be added to the Age UK hampers.
The Junior school have also been creative in after school club. Their cards and pictures will be delivered to St David’s Care home across the road from school to bring some festive cheer to the residents of the home.
Mencap Fair
On Tuesday afternoon, Y10 held a fair for Ealing Mencap as part of their volunteering enrichment. When creating the stalls, we thought about how we could make it engaging, as well as following the theme of Christmas. We had multiple stalls, such as snowflake decorating, stencil painting and colouring. Overall, it was a really fun and engaging experience as we got to work alongside Ealing Mencap and get in the festive spirit. To top it o we sang some classic Christmas tunes. We would like to thank Ealing Mencap for allowing us to partner with them in delivering a lively event.
Nanthana Y10
‘The mencap fair was very fun to organise and when all the people came in, they were very friendly and eager to do the arts and crafts we had prepared. I helped a women do Christmas cards with stencils, and she was very sweet and seemed to enjoy the activity greatly. Then I went on to help a man do colouring, I helped him with the decorations of the picture, and it was very fun and a lovely atmosphere to be in’.
Catrin Y10School Christmas cards
Thank you to everyone who has bought school Christmas cards this year. There was a fantastic selection of cards to choose from making the choice extremely di cult. The dove and the Christmas tree were finally chosen.
In total £200 was raised towards the work of the Harrow Club.
Christmas jumper day
The school was looking fantastic on Christmas jumper day this Tuesday. Thank you to everyone who took part and made a donation to the Harrow Club. Here are 7H looking very festive! Thank you also to the junior school for taking part. Money is still being counted.
Old mobile phones and laptops
Do you have any phones (with chargers), laptops or tablets that you no longer require? Will you be replacing any of these with a newer model at Christmas? If so, Care 4 Calais would really appreciate you donating your old items to teenage refugees living and studying in the local area to help with their school work. Please let Mrs Johnson know on return to school if you can help.
German film night
Thank you to the German department for donating the proceeds from their film night last night month to the work of the Harrow Club. They are generously donating £400.
Volunteering at The Log Cabin
Maya in Y13 has been regularly volunteering at the Log Cabin in Northfields Avenue. The Log Cabin is one of the main charities supported by NHEHS.
‘Each week I attend the Log Cabin and enjoy playing with and looking after children with additional needs such as autism, ADHD, epilepsy. There are many activities for the children to take part in. I help supervise them playing outside and in the soft play room, reading with them, doing art, baking, puzzles and chatting (if they are an older child)’.
The Log Cabin would love to receive further volunteers from NHEHS. If you are 16+ you can apply. (See Mrs Johnson for further details).
